Question about USC/Michigan
granted this doesn't have anything to do with the outcome but why wasn't Jarrett flagged twice for taunting? Espeically considering the baiting and retalitation penalty in the BSU/OU game. It just struck me as odd as well as in the 2005 tOSU/Michigan game Santonio Holmes gets flagged for diving into the end zone as a taunting type penalty but this year every body and their mother is diving with no one around...
again just an observation...it wouldn't have changed the outcome but just wanted to get some input...

Re: Question about USC/Michigan
I wouldn't expect unsportsman-like conduct calls to be made as consistently as something more plain and concrete like holding, or PI. There are so many different things a player can do that might constitute "taunting" that it really comes down more to personal judgement by the refs...and one ref might see it differently than another. I know there are certain actions and gestures that will automatically draw a flag, but what Jarrett did I think could've gone eithier way. I don't think he deserved a flag, though.buckeye_in_sc wrote:granted this doesn't have anything to do with the outcome but why wasn't Jarrett flagged twice for taunting? I was surprised he wasn't flagged too. I can only assume that the first play, as he was running into the end zone, was AT LEAST borderline. Okay, don't throw it then, I can understand that. But he's now on a short leash if I'm a ref. So, when he hands the ball to the UofM DB soon after his previous taunt, I'm throwing that flag.

The first one was a cheap-ass move, and just dumb, especially when he slowed down before he got to the endzone. That kind of shit has backfired before on more than one occasion, resulting in missing the TD or even a turnover. Without knowing what might have been said by Jarrett I don't think it called for a penalty, but it did definitely call for an ass kicking by Coach. That kind of shit is just fucking stupid. The subsequent hit was definitely late and "flaggable".
On the second one he handed the ball to the MU player. If he had tossed it at him I think it would have called for a flag. But the dude did stupidly take the ball when it was handed to him. Maybe that's a fine line, but like it's been already said, it's a judgement call. You also don't know what might have been going on verbally, etc. between the players leading up to that.
Jarrett is a great talent. I hate to see him turn into another TO, but without a severe ass kicking by somebody in authority I'm afraid that's how he's going to end up. Somebody needs to sit him down and show him an LT highlight film.

Unless youre down there on the field you really cant say what was being said or what was going on. According to Jarrett, Michigans safety had been talking smack the entire game, refs may have heard this, and perhaps that is why they let him pointing at the DB on that long TD go.
It also comes down to sticks and stones, these are young men and their sensitive little feelings are not considered, their actions are. No amount of taunting is worth a cheap shot in a ref's eyes.
I didnt see anything wrong with handing the guy the ball after Jarretts other catch, quit acting like soccer moms
If by money you mean the stipend that a school gives it's players then every D1 player is already playing for money. Jarrett paid back the money that red asses said he owed for renting a room with a teammate last year and has not been proven to have taken any other money

i knew schmick wouldn't like that...who is acting like a soccer mom? i just merely pointed out that much less egregious stuff gets unsportsmanlike conduct penalties...
look not doubting DJ's playing ability...but as you said you are down on the field...exactly act like you have been there before...SC was pounding michigan...so he was running his mouth...big deal...just score hand the ball to the ref and be done with it...that seems to do the trick for many other players...again just asking the question...

he rented a room from a team mate for 600 bucks a month, thst not cheating.
I find it funny that DJ's point or ball handoff is a topic of discussion and ire, Manninghams throat slash gesture hasnt been mentioned at all and after a whsitle when CJ Gable was on his hands and knees and attempting to get up, David Harris pushed him back down to the ground. All of this from a school where the Fab 5 came from and where Desmond Howard would strike the Heisman pose, thats rich
Barringer talked his game, and ran his cheap shots, he was only flagged once for a hit well after Jarrett was in he endzone, if he didnt want to get shown up, he should have just shut up

barringer was flagged though wasn't he?
again Meds said it best in another thread DJ was a thug yesterday...just to bad schmick doesn't think so...
i mean if a tOSU player was doing that shit I'd be calling his ass out as well...again act like you have been there before...scoreboard says it all so who gives a shit...pointing at the dude before the end zone and slowing down...yeah that is really classy right there...
but now you come back with all this other shit about michigan...again I asked one simple question...why wasn't he flagged for taunting...for someone's whose team one your pussy sure is sore...

I was glad Berringer hit him. You don't want to get hit, get the fuck in the end zone! I hate showboating, no matter what team does it. If I were the ref I'd have to Jarret tough shit, you slowed down, quit being a punk and play football.

Barringer was flagged for hitting a player late, you can injur someone hitting them after the play is over, I never heard of any one ever getting injured because they were pointed at, maybe you know of one of those injuries.
I do feel that what Jarrett did was unfortunate, Im not going to label him without knowing what sort of things Barringer was saying during the game leading up to that point.
this move by Oscar Lua though I do think was pretty thugish

I'm not in favor of taking a blindside cheap shot from someone who isn't expectng it.
However, every now and again, it is warranted.

I'm glad Jarrett got TOed. He deserved it. Only other thing that would have made it perfect would have been an offsetting taunting flag and a torn MCL.

It was hardly a solid hit. Jarret saw it coming, just a little love tap to teach him to run through the goal line.SoCalTrjn wrote:Barringer was flagged for hitting a player late, you can injur someone hitting them after the play is over, I never heard of any one ever getting injured because they were pointed at, maybe you know of one of those injuries.
