By the way, no one has put the SEC conference down. Certain FACTS have been brought about their pussy OOC scheduling and refusal to travel OOC. Those are not debateable. The SEC is a strong conference with cream puff OOC scheduling close to home.

We all know that because of Tedford the PAC 10 only needs one coach to be considered the greatest conference for coaches...boy are you guys stupid...



While other conferences have some good depth at the top...I think the SEC has the most quality throughout...heck you can even add Fulmer to that list if you want...and perhaps Les Miles...I know it is only year 2 but we shall see what he has got when he starts getting his own kids in there...

LSU 17-1 Traveled to ASU, AZ and Va Tech where they went 2-1. Other 15 games were at home. THIS is the SEC's most impressive travelling team.

PLEASE don't tell me the SEC plays quality OOC games AND travels. I agree the SEC is a tough in conference schedule, but quit trying to say you don't pad the win column with deaf high school teams.

Hell, Miles, Tuberville, Nutt could be included.

I'm going to have to see Meyer actually win with his goofy option offense before I pass any judgement there. He walked into a pile of talent. Richt recruits well, but his on field coaching is suspect. Miles...well, a blind monkey could win with the talent LSU has no rival for in-state. Consider, however, that Tuberville has a winning record against just about every coach in the SEC, has to recruit against a fanatical pro-Alabama press and in-state high school coaching association, and play with mostly passovers from Florida, FSU and Georgia, and I'd have to put him up there with Spurrier as the best coach in the SEC. His name doesn't get all the flash of a Spurrier or Saban, but he's 3-3 against Steve and 3-2 against Saban...without nearly the natural talent bases either of them enjoyed.

Y'all can put the conference down all you want, but coaches, players, announcers, analysts, etc. all know which conference is the best.

I think it's pretty obvious when coaches like Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, Richt, etc. land down here.

Wonder what my autographed pic of Spurrier when he won the Heisman is worth these days? Got it right after he won it in '66. Checked e-bay and no one has the one I've got.

The thing about pedigreed coaches is, they're still dealing with the manifold foibles of 18-22 year old kids.

These days, a lot of kids don't "get" an old guy like Paterno. Yes, he's Joe Paterno, but there's a point where the kid has to focus and just kick some ass on the football field, regardless of who the coach is.

A guy like Weis might have a "great offensive mind"...but that doesn't always translate into on-field greatness.

I often think that the smaller conferences have some of the best coaches. Here are guys who are in the thick of things, with diminished resources and scant attention paid to their efforts...and they are scrapping for every win.

People didn't understand what a guy like Jim Tressel brought to the table when he took the OSU job. If you can succeed consistently in 1-A, then you have definitely learned a lot about coaching, IMO.

It should be noted that the ONLY reason LSU went to Arizona State was because of some bitch named Katrina, that was scheduled as a home game at LSU and the Sun devils gave LSU over half the take at the gate so the game wouldnt be cancelled

Point definitely taken, but if you're going to list the "elite" SEC teams, you probably should add Tennessee (who has been at least as impressive as 'Bama over the time period you mentioned.) Their OOC schedule, while certainly falling far short of world-beater status, is at least a tad more impressive than the others.

OTOH, not much travel (only two OOC road games out of state in the past five seasons), and 15 out of 18 OOC games at home over the past five seasons is sort of a joke.

Hell, Miles, Tuberville, Nutt could be included. And if Orgeron is thre recruiter we hear he is, he may turn that mess around. If Mississippi had stuck with David Cutcliffe, I think he'd have ranked up there, too.

Tuberville is a hell of a coach. He should have been mentioned in your first post.

No way Ole Miss would be anywhere with Cutcliffe still there. Without Eli they havent been shit since..nor will they IMHO. Three major schools in a state with little population bordered by monsters like LSU, Tennessee, Bama, and Auburn make for little talent.
