So Meyer Joins The Club

Post by buckeye_in_sc »

the coaching club that has won national titles within 2-3 years of being on campus at his new gig...

Stoops
Tressel
Carroll
Saban

now Meyer...going to be hard for some of these newer coaches at major programs who have been around for a few years (sup Kirk Ferentz) to continue to try and live up to those expectations...

any other newer coaches on the horizon you see doing the same sort of thing?

Kragthorpe at Louisville?
Rodgriguez at WVU?

discuss...

I think Louisville takes a down turn now. I wouldn't be surprised if Brohm left. They could lose some of their good upperclassmen WR's. They were already losing 7 defensive starters as it is, so it will be a little more difficult for Kragthorpe than most people think.

Rodriguez certainly would be in the position to accomplish that depending on how high WVU is in the polls to start the season.

If the criteria is coaches who get the national championship quickly, Rodriguez has been at WVU since '01, so he's closer to Ferentz' category. Just sayin'.

I think (perhaps hope is the better word) Weis gets one at ND, but it probably will take at least five years.

Bielma has a chance with next year's team. But I won't be betting any money on it.

He's only losing six seniors, and they should start out in the top 10 next year.

I just watched a replay of the game and postgame.

Wow, to any of you who claim that Meyer is a scumbag(not sure where this came from-he booted our best defensive player OFF the team for going to Halloween Horror nights without permission after he was on probation for serving a suspension)......I just watched interview after interview with Florida players. Nothing but class.

Why?

Meyer was quoted as saying our players are humble, only talk great about your opponents, and always talk great about your teammates, no trash talk allowed. He said you will not find any of our players caught up in that trashy stuff. If that's not class I don't know what is.....Meyer brings so much on the field and so much off. These past two years have been the quietiest I can remember in a long time. Yes, Marcus Thomas got in trouble but for the most part it was quiet.

Didn't Holt win pretty early in his Irish stint?

So constantly bringing up that there are 4 or 5 teams in the SEC that could beat OSU, they aren't anything, Troy Smith was this or Troy Smith was that is very humble...I know Meyer can't control every player...but I have heard some rather disparaging comments from some UF players but you will have that...even DeShuan Wynn in the Cincy Enquierer was pretty borderline...

again that is why I respect Leak as a player but I can't fucking stand him as a person...living here in Charlotte for the past 8 years and dealing with hearing about his brother and him with his dickhead father...and the fact that Leak was like I am not going to UT because of the way they treat my brother and all that...fuck off...

Like I said I respect his game and he played a marvelous game...you know what Rex I can't FUCKING stand Urban Meyer and he is from Ashtabula, Ohio (about 1 hr east of where I grew up in Ohio), was a GA at OSU, got his Masters at OSU, and reveres Woody and Earle...but I still can't FUCKING stand him...my personal opinion...I think he is classy and he has done a masterful job at UF in the short time he has been there. I respect him for that but that doesn't mean I got to love him or swing from his nutz...

Quit acting like FLA is the be all end all of everything...they won on Monday...but hearing FLA fan talk it is like they should be in the NFL playoffs...they held a high scoring team to 7 offensive points and 82 yards...awesome...it happens...and again not one FLA fan I heard...EXCEPT Larry Kennedy (who by the way signed with OSU first) said on the local show the Friday before the game that FLA wins hands down...he was the only one...but again what happens if Urban bolts for the NFL or OSU in the future? His contract at Utah only had a payback clasue if he left for ND or OSU...but I know what you are going to say...nope he is making the jack and he is happy at FLA much like Billy D...that is fine...

Again props...and you guys hold the belt for the next 360+ days...it will be an interesting landscape in CF this coming year...LSU loses J Marc, you guys are losing some quality defensive guys, USC is losing Jarrett, OSU is losing possibly 3 studs...so it will be interesting...I look forward to CF moreso now because of the bad way my season ended...again nothing personal with any of the aforementioned comments...just enjoy...

just enjoy...

And by the way I started this thread because Meyer joins some pretty elite company after Monday...that in and of itself is a great accomplishment...to be mentioned with those guys along with guys like Mack, Bowden, Paterno, etc...who are all still coaching and have won MNC's and tons of games is a pretty awesome accomplishment...

I remember everyone making a big deal that he won with previous coaches players and it was the year after Tim Brown won the Heisman.

What did you read? I heard him say he couldn't wait to get back home becuase he took such a razzing at Xmas. That's all I heard.

Leak is as humble as they come. He's never said a bad word about anybody.
I'm hardly doing that. But I got several PM's from people in here on how evil Meyer is and I really have no clue where it ever came from. The guy has done and said all teh right things since he's been here. What more can you ask for? I dislike Tressel but you have to appreciate everything he's done. SO we're even there.

Urban's not going anywhere. He's going to get a fat raise and make more than half of the NFL already. The shelf life for an NFL coach is something like less than 4 years. And less jack. I think Billy D has more of a chance leaving than Meyer does. If he gets Saban-like money(which I think he will), why would anyone leave? That spread option will NEVER, EVER work in the NFL!

I am enjoying. And yes, we lose a lot. The offense will be better with Tebow, Harvin, CHRIS RAINEY(remember THAT name), Caldwell, and 4/5ths of the o-line coming back. Now, the defense is another story......there are studs everywhere waiting to play. Young and athletic. We'll see. Nothing personal taken and thank you for being such a class act yourself.

Not exactly. Holtz took over for the Irish in '86 and won in '88 after a Fiesta Bowl win over West Virginia.

T REX, be happy that you won the NC. Don't ask for reasons why other people think your coach isn't classy.

It just seems wierd...he told a story at the CELEBRATION today....while recruiting(this story has been told before) for ND in Florida ten years ago he stopped off in Gainesville to see why he was losing recruits. He couldn't understand it. He parked and walked through the grounds of beautiful UF and into and UNLOCKED Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. It was 72 degrees in mid-January. He walked to the 50 yard line, looked around, and called his wife. He told her somehow we have to end up here. He also got a parking ticket that he still has to this day. The rest is history!

Killian: Was that the team that had Major Harris? Or was that later? The Gators whooped up on WVU one year too. And I am happy. Meyer is all class and makes the kids work and play with class.

ah, OK. i don't like to be inaccurate. but i guess at minimum ND played CU in the Orange Bowl in 89 to at least cost CU the NC? because i know, around here (Denver/Boulder) that was a big loss. and "avenged" the next year when McCartney punted to the Rocket....and was bailed out by a "penalty".

for half a NC.

Rex - I think the 93 Sugar Bowl maybe...WVU scored the first TD of the game and then got 41 unanswered hung on them by Florida...

I know it was the Sugar but my years might be off...

Urban will wind up back at tOSU...! :P
