ND-UConn Series?

Per both the Hartford Courtand and ND Nation, they're in the negotiating stage, anyway.

Apparently, if the series does come off, it'll be a home-and-neutral field series similar to Navy. UConn's "home" game would be played at either Giants Stadium or Gillette Stadium.

i guess the citadel and vmi were busy that week?

New Hampshire was taken by Nebraska.

If they took Vermont... it may jeopardize their 3 loss season and a BCS Bowl game they can get blown out in again.

Rumor has it they were looking to schedule Troy, Sacramento State and UC-Davis, but those schools had all committed to Missouri and Cal.

And there's a big difference between UConn, on the one hand, and the Citadel and VMI, on the other. Last I checked, UConn was still a member of a BCS conference. The Citadel and VMI aren't even 1-A, and ND doesn't schedule below the 1-A level.

It gives ND an extra game in the northeast every other year, which is good for a significant portion of its fanbase. And it helps the Big East, in which ND has a vested interest, given most of its other sports teams play in the Big East.

So, win/win all around. The only concern is that it might give rise to too many neutral-site games. Between Navy, UConn, presumably Rutgers (who goes on the schedule in a more-or-less permanent capacity beginning in '10) and Oklahoma (still in the negotiating stages, but it's been rumored that there will be either a two- or four-game series with all games played on neutral fields), ND might have a few too many neutral-field games in the near future.

I know at one point they were talking about two neutral-field games, but it looks like that didn't materialize.

When is ND planning on playing some games in FL? I know there was an article that mentioned one of the "neutral site" areas to be within FL.

- Orlando hosted the ND-Navy game in the relatively recent past ('94, IIRC), and is scheduled to host it again in the near future ('08 or '10, IIRC).

Back when I lived in Jacksonville (granted, we're going back to late '80's -- early '90's here) there wasn't much of a ND fan following there. Terry you had it right te first time... sort of.

The plan is a four game series to start in 2013 and to be concluded by 2021. One game in South Bend, one game in Norman, and two games on neutral fields. The deal hasn't been put in writting yet, from my sources, because Joe C. is insisting tat the first game be in Norman as Notre Dame has a history of doing one of two things with Oklahoma... either one stating that if Oklahoma comes to Notre Dame it is sort of hand shake deal that they come to Norman and the Irish haven't held up to those sort of promises to us in about, oh say 50 some odd years or two (as occurred twice in the Bud Wilkenson Era) Notre Dame cancel or buyout the series after the one game in South Bend. Joe C. is shrewed eough that he isn't going to be bamboozeled as previous OU AD's have by the Irish.

Speculation on the neutral field sites seem to center around Dallas and Chicago but Kansas City, St. Louis, Houston, and San Antonio are also in the mix.

There was talk of that a while back and then there was something that came out in one of the local papers here around the start of the past season that said that the possibility existed of playing in either Orlando or Jacksonville. Orlando might be a real nice option once the Citrus Bowl gets renovated.
