Mike Belotti gets 5 year extension????
What the fuck? Does the Oregon AD think this is 2001??? Dude hasn't done shit in 6 years. How the heck is he getting an extension? I know Oregon isn't exactly USC or Ohio State, so expectations aren't as high, but come on.....that's a team I've thought has been regularly underachieving for the last few years. No way would I give him an extension, especially not a 5-yr one.
What do the Duck fans on here think about this and what is the talk of most Oregon fans? Do they agree with this? Do they actually think Belotti is doing a good job? Maybe I just don't understand the fans expectations up there, but there's no way with his teams performance over the last 5-6 years I would give him an extension. But hey, if the Oregon fans like him, then that's all that matters I guess.

Baiting Dins into a flame war about Oregon football?
You must have A LOT of time on your hands.

No flamewar here. Can't disagree with much of it, except in his 12 years, he's had 3 ten-win seasons, 2 of them in that 6-year span he cites.
Therein lies the rub -- they get the talent to make huge runs every year...yet they only show up for the party about 25% of the time. Case closed, as far as I'm concerned.
The reason Bellotti got the job continued is because he's the King of the guys who suck the Guy-Writing-The-Checks' dick...period.
I'll be able to discuss this more rationally when the grieving period is over...sometime around 2012.
RIP, Duck Football.

Actually I can answer the question a bit more rationally than Dinsdale.
Like mose Head Coaches Belotti lives and dies by who he has as his assistants..and he has had some bad ones the past few years. For example: Jeff Tedford was a good one and when he left a lot of the Duck fortunes went with him.
These coaching extensions are a matter of course...I know for a fact that there will be a lot of pressure next season for the Duck to perform at a much higher level than they did this season. If not then there will be a lot of call for a new coach. Someone like Boise State Coach Peterson, or Tedford. Buying out Belottis base contract would not be that big of a deal.

Bellotti has had one good year since Tedford left and last-season's backslide was an abomination. My guess is the extension is for recruiting-purposes, you want your coach to appear secure. But I'd say this season is do-or-die for Bellotti extension-or-no.
You gonna bark all day little doggie or are you gonna bite?
