Stolen Identity anyone?

Post by The Viper »

Had my identity ripped from me what looks like a few months ago and didn't find out until recently when I went to buy a car. Creditors haven't been blowing up my phone because I switched numbers, and they obviously didn't have my new cell. I didn't notice because I usually carry a $0 balance on my cc's and I haven't been opening my statements because I rarely ever need to. Usually someone who has 700 credit, my credit is now totally trashed thatnks to the prick or pricks who went on a spending spree. (It was probably one of you fukks.)

Going thru all the required channels. What a pain in the ass. Someone suggested to me you can request a new SSN and start rebuilding your credit that way. Anyone know if this is true? Anyone had to do this?

Let's hear it.

stolen identity would have to be one of the top excuses deadbeats use to try to fuck their creditors out of the money they owe them

Did you get your identity or your credit card # stolen?

All I know is that the first step is to report the problem to the credit reporting services, have them put a hold on your credit so that any enquiry, credit request, etc. will have to be OKed by you.

As for your question:
Getting a new Social Security number

If you have done all you can to fix the problem and someone still is using your number, we may assign you a new number. We cannot guarantee that a new number will solve your problem.

You cannot get a new Social Security number if:

* You filed for bankruptcy;
* You intend to avoid the law or your legal responsibility; or
* Your Social Security card is lost or stolen, but there is no evidence that someone is using your number.

Good luck!

I had mine stolen in 94. I didn't even know until I went to renew my DL. Turned out someone stole my birth certificate and SS card.
The police pulled over a guy and found my info with his pic on a DL. They did NOTHING!!! Charged him W/ fake ID. When I went to renew my DL, i was informed that someone was using my ID. They would not tell me his name, nor would the police.

I checked my credit report, and was fucking shocked! This bastard had bought 2 cars (used), rented 3 apartments, and acquired numerous credit cards. A total of approx. 12 G's.
The authorities told me there was nothing that they could do. I was also told that there was nothing I could do to clear all of this shit up, unless the creditors wanted to sue the prick for the money that was "stolen". And since the amount that was stolen was not worth the creditors time and money, I was fucked.

13 years later I am still feeling the effects.

I know that things have changed recently and I wish you the best. Unless of course you are a ID thief looking for info, then burn in hell.

I don't get it. The fucker basically stole $12,000 and yet that's not enough to throw him in jail for grand larceny or something?

This society is in real trouble...

Somebody stole Dins' ID, but quickly realized there was no way he could live up to it.
So he sent it back the next day, slightly used but no worse for the wear.

Hey Mikey -- if you're going to drop some "smack" that suggests that I suck, or whatever, you might want to do it in a way that isn't based on rewriting one of my jokes.

Uh...no. It was a completely different play on a similar theme. Not exactly unprecedented here.

Someone 'stole' my DL once, checked out the photo of me hamming it up for the RMV camera wearing my patented Polo Shirt, and sent it back to me with the following message:

"Did you really pay $75 for that faggoty shirt, loser?"
