As for the 3-4 vs 4-3 thing, it's still too early to tell. Right now, they don't have the personnel on their D line to run a 4-3. Check back after the draft and free agency.

I don't see it as being a shame at all. He's been flapping his gums about wanting a big money deal. A deal that was clearly beyond the means of the Steelers in relation to the cap and one that would have well outstripped by a bit the deals that Haggans, Farrior and Foote have got. When you do things like threaten to hold out, and when the one coach who could keep you in check is gone, you've got to expect that you're going to get cut. Especially when cutting Porter allows one of the most dynamic playmakers on the team to step up into a starting role.
