Another joke was hearing the PA suggest "The Players" would start up their own league.
If there is any justice left in this greed infested world, they would, and then find out they can not afford themselves...

That would be about 116,000,000 more than they are worth right now.Hapday wrote:That offer was a complete joke. It makes every franchise worth around $117,000,000, so no wonder the NHL rejected it faster than a JTR request for a chick's digits.

bingo...just look at the mess that was the continental basketball association when a group led by Isiah Thomas bought the whole league and it ended up in bankruptcy.Hapday wrote:That offer was a complete joke. I would say about 4 teams are worth that much or more at this time: Detroit, Toronto, NY Rangers, and maybe Montreal. And I don't think it has been rejected yet, but sinc it needs all 30 teams to agree it will be. But if you polled the owners I bet 75-80% would take it.Hapday wrote:That offer was a complete joke. They may have spent 250+ million but the teams are not worth anywhere near that much. If the Ducks went for $60 million how much do you really think the ATlanta Thrashers are worth? I agree it won't happen, though.Hapday wrote:I seriously doubt that. The schmucks and Canadiens amy have sold for a song, but expansion franchises still spent $250 million + on their team. They won't go for it.See You Next Wednesday wrote: But if you polled the owners I bet 75-80% would take it.

Before the lockout, Forbes estimated all 30 teams were worth $4.9 billion. Detroit was the most valuable at $266 million and Edmonton was least valuable at $86 million. I'd be safe to assume that the teams that are currently worth less than $111 million wouldn't mind selling and actually getting a return. Meanwhile, owners like Ilitch, Kroenke, Hicks, etc...they'd lose quite a bit in the deal. It's such a wild idea and the fact the league is at an all-time low...why not shake things up? As long as they don't rename the Stanley Cup or slap their corporate logo all over the place, I say go for it.
