Some pretty good games coming up.
Florida/Butler- I think the Bulldogs will keep this thing relatively close but UF just too strong.
Oregon/UNLV- Might be the best game of this round, I think the Ducks uptempo the game enough though.
Kansas/SIU- If KU brings their A game this could get ugly.
UCLA/Pitt- I think Pitt is the most overrated team in the country, UCLA by 20.
UNC/USC- Could see this one being close but think UNC has too many horses.
G-town/Vandy- If Vandy can get hot from outside I think they've got a shot at the upset.
tO$U/Tenn- VERY interested to see the gameplans each coach attempts to utilize, this might be the best game of the round too.
ATM/Memphis- I think this game will be pretty uptempo and could see Memphis pulling the "upset" if they can get hot from outside.

Florida/Butler: Florida just has too much firepower for Butler. I don't see how Butler wins this.
Oregon/UNLV: Both these teams have the capability to look very good, I've also seen both look very bad at times this year. I hope they both play their "A" games, it would be fun to watch. I'm going with Oregon.
Kansas/SIU: One thing that isn't being talked about much is how SIU is going to deal with Kansas' defense. Kansas' D is statistically better than SIU's in almost every category. I think SIU struggles mightily to get to 50 points and Kansas gets into the low 60's. I'm with Kansas.
UCLA/Pitt: I'm not a big Pitt backer either, but UCLA hasn't looked very good for several games now. Regardless, UCLA is the better team and I'm going with them here.
UNC/USC: North Carolina plays bad defense and shoots free throws poorly; both are recipes for an earlier than expected tourney loss. I have not been impressed by their play in rounds 1 & 2. It's hard for me to pick against UNC though because of all the talent. USC has played a very tough schedule, won some big games and I think they will pull off the upset here. My pick is USC.
G'Town/Vandy: I'll pick Georgetown. I'm concerned that they could look past Vandy since they beat them so handily earlier this year. They shouldn't look ahead, but........it happens.
Ohio St/Tenn: I think this will be a tough game. Tennessee plays a similar style to Xavier and that didn't go so well for OSU. Plus Tennessee knows they can play with them, even without a good performance from Lofton. IF I was gambling, I would happily take Tenn +5!! This could go either way but in the end, I'll pick Ohio State.
aTm/Memphis: I'm going with aTm, I just can't pick Memphis because of their schedule and even through two rounds they still have not beat a really good team. In my opinion aTm is a really good team and they should benefit by playing near home (although in my opinion that sometimes adds to the pressure and expectation of a team). This should be a great game. Memphis could prove me wrong all the way to the Final Four, but I'm not picking them here.
Now on to a very minor seeding issue. How in the hell does aTm get basically a homecourt game as a #3 seed?? How does UCLA get to stay so close to home as a #2 seed?? I know the committee has a lot to work around, but these two placements just don't make sense to me. Anyway, it's not that big a deal it just doesn't make sense to me.

i think Memphis/ATM is an interesting matchup. Memphis has some real freaks and athleticism. i think playing Louisville will help ATM in this one, and playing at home thanks to the goofball pod system pay-back for playing the Ville at Rupp.
thing about getting the 4 days off, is some teams get the "we're just happy to be here" syndrome.
Vandy runs a version of the Princeton, might make it interesting for G'Town. G'Town is the better team.

I believe the Selection Committee tries to keep most of the higher seeds, or at least the highest seeded team from each conference, in their natural regional, although there are exceptions. Florida did wind up in the Midwest, but they were the #1 overall seed, and this year the Midwest Regional site (St. Louis) was actually a little closer to Gainesville than either the South Regional site (San Antonio) or the East Regional site (East Rutherford). And Kansas did have to go out west, but one of the #1 seeds was going there outside their more logical placement, and Kansas was the last of the 1 seeds.Mook wrote:Now on to a very minor seeding issue. Btw, in the East Regional one could argue that Georgetown, as a 2 seed, has what amounts to a de facto home game in the East Regional final vs. North Carolina, as a 1 seed (assuming both make it). That's more a function of where the regional site is than anything else, though (although you rarely see the East Regional played south of Washington, D.C.).

Even though I picked OSU to go to the championship game and lose to KU, I'm now pulling for Tennessee to knock their dicks in the dirt. The way Xavier lost that game with Oden's flagrant foul not being called, they need to go down.

oh christ Mook. you are surely joking. you've rebuked me before about my standing complaint on KU's "big run" with Self 3 or 4 years ago playing in Kemper and STL as a, what, 5 seed?Mook wrote: Now on to a very minor seeding issue. i've posted a thousand times i think the pod system is a joke, but are you also one of those people who thought Kemper was a "neutral site" for the Big 8 tournament....and now are complaining about OTHER teams getting a home draw.
c'mon.

In the original thread this was discussed in, War Wagon wrote:Yep, Xavier blew it. Gotta' give props to OSU for taking advantage of the opportunity that was given them.
I'm pretty sure they played in St. Louis, but not Kemper in Self's first year when they played Ga. Tech. I don't remember what seed they were, but I think it was a #3 and yes that's equally bad. I don't remember if I rebuked you (I probably did) about where they played and even if I did it doesn't mean I have to be consistent in my positions!! I'm kidding, you may have me on this one.King Crimson wrote:oh christ Mook. you are surely joking. you've rebuked me before about my standing complaint on KU's "big run" with Self 3 or 4 years ago playing in Kemper and STL as a, what, 5 seed?Mook wrote: Now on to a very minor seeding issue. They have played in Kemper as a #1 seed and #1 seeds are very different in my opinion, I don't care how close to home they play. And I have never said that Kemper was neutral for Kansas. It isn't. You're just bitter about 1988........Kansas was a 6 seed that year, I think.......good times indeed.
Anyway, I agree the pod system is a joke.

is War Wagon the missouri version of Jon???
also I love how no one says a fucking word about Lighty getting planted on his ass by Xavier dude when rebounding the missed three from Butler...
but because HE IS ODEN it must be flagrant right? he did foul the dude but that foul was no harder than most guys get going to the rack...

Oden de-cleated the guy. it was an 2 shot get the ball back foul. i don't care what the CBS guys said (protect the #1 seed)....it's their job to hype ratings, at the end of the day. it was a bad , frustration foul. way too physical.
funny how all the tOSU posters were like quacking ducks in the post-game thread..."it was the right call". " he was going for the ball". "Xavier should have made the FT".

well considering 2 fucking refs were right there...and let me guess no other team in the history of the tournament has had the benefit intentional or not from a call, etc???
again no on talks about Lighty getting leveled by an XU player while grabbing the rebound right before that when Butler missed the 3...but then again you probably don't know Xavier dude...but you do know Oden...
right war wagon...maybe Oden put in the tape of Katzenmoyer leveling Jones before the game???
and King...save the homer whiner bullshit...i can remember when people were all over OU a couple years ago about being in the title game after getting shit hammered by KSU and many OU fans defending why they should still be there...pot kettle black much?
(disclaimer - I have nothing against anyone...I just want to enjoy the madness and cheer my team on)...

That's not sarcasm. To qualify as being sarcastic, you must have a valid point and an oz. of credibility to begin with. No, that's homerific idiocy, that's what that is.buckeye_in_sc wrote:KU dude barrels into SIU dude late in the game no call...<sarcasm>should have been flagrant<sarcasm>
Anyways, that SIU team should change their name from Saluki's to Bulldogs, because that's exactly how they play. What a defensive effort that team puts forth. KU is feeling very fortunate right about now just to have survived that.
Kinda' like the Fuckeyes musta' felt against the Musketeers.
