read the tread, none of the parents have said anything about a post game handshake, if anything all have said that they prefer that their kid is in the car and ready to leave the fields 5 mins after the game is over.
I didnt force any kids to quit, what I do is have kids do 5 wind sprints for every error they make before the next practice starts. At the end of practice I have top man wind sprints where the after each sprint, the first kid is done.
You act as if these are Tee Ball players, just about every kid on my team is playing travel ball and every kid, including the 10 year old has played at least 5 years of organized baseball, many playing 2-4 seasons a year. This isnt a Minor B Little League team.
Now 2 of the 3 kids that quit my team had played less baseball and I dont think either played USSSA or travel ball. The one whos parents were getting divorced said he had playd 6 seasons, I dont know if thats over 6 years or 3 or 4, but his situation at home Im sure had something to do with his performance, he looked much better at try outs.
No polyester gray shorts, Ill look in to finding some of those though

Not to speak for Salad Tosser (who deserves a rack for that post, btw), but he didn't say that the parents were complaining about it.SoCalTrjn wrote:read the tread, none of the parents have said anything about a post game handshake, if anything all have said that they prefer that their kid is in the car and ready to leave the fields 5 mins after the game is over.
Rather, he said that he would object to what you're doing.SaladTosser wrote:Honestly, if my kid was on your team, even if he was one of your stronger players, I wouldn't play your bullshit. Not shaking hands with the other team at the end of the game?!?!?!? Are you fucking kidding me??!!? Actually, if I was a father of the other team, I would wear your ass out in front of everyone. Not physically, but I would call you out as the pussy you are.

I dont give a fuck what parents of kids on other teams think, my responsibility is to the parents of the kids on my team. If even one parent said they thought we should do that, I would have had the team do it, none did. We will do it from now on but I will not ask my team to give less than 100% no matter what the score is

Bwaaa. Almost exactly what I was thinking.SaladTosser wrote:I can picture you now. You are "that" coach in every one of those shitty HBO and Lifetime movies, wearing those grey, tight, polyester, 1982 coaches shorts, who slams his clipboard down when his team loses to the team of "inferior good kids."
And in the bottom of the ninth, full count, with the bases loaded, coach calls time and waves his batter in to have a little "talk" with him.
"Okay, Jimmy. This is it. This means everything. Don't screw it up. Get a base hit and we win the game. Strikeout, and you'll fail your team, yourself, and your family. Now get in there and win this thing!"

Joe Holloway.
He was such an overbearing ass, they ran him from little league, so he took up coaching soccer. The little kids used to cry when they got assigned to Joe's team.
Joe wore those shorts, too.

And you'll try running the score up as much as possible trying to humiliate the other team, instead of playing that little used kid who sits the bench most of the time. You'll have kids trying to steal bases when the score is 10-1SoCalTrjn wrote:I will not ask my team to give less than 100% no matter what the score is
Coaching a team is all about YOU, not about the kids. You're all that's wrong about youth sports. Do the kids and parents on your team a favor and stick a loaded shotgun down your throat.
Loser.
we dont have little used players, we only dress 11 for the games.
maybe you could ask kids on your team to give less than their best, I can not.
The feelings of the kids on the other team are not my problem, my team is my only concern,. The way most of our games are only going 4 innings, Im trying to keep the team sharp for when they play the next game, in the playoffs and in any tournaments they play in after the playoffs.

Exhibiting class and displaying character isn't part of "giving their best"?
Starting to see why you're being piled on both here, and in the real world, apparently?

Socaltrjn,
Forget the others for a moment and apply whatever smack you have to FruitSaladTossed. He's publicly fantasizing about you wearing shorts. Unleash a smackdown on him to atone for letting his mancrush slip past you. You were doing fine up til that point maintaining your composure. Good luck.

Im not wrong, I decided to coach a youth sports team that one of my sons plays on. I constantly talk to the parents of the kids on the team and have their input on everying I coach.
The league they play in doesnt make the post game hand slap mandatory and in the 4 games I have watched this week since getting that letter, only in 1 of them was the "good game" stuff done.
I havent drafted younger players up to my team because I didnt want to mess up the lower level teams and my team doesnt need the help.
Those who have commented negatively on my coaching are AYSO parents and would likely be happy if there wasnt even a score board on the fields. If any had a kid on my team, they would be glad that I am taking the time to teach their son proper baseball and be happy that we make it fun and their son is having a great time.
As for salad tossers man crush, if he wants to imagine men in ball tight polyester shorts, thats on him

U-trip tournaments, I take it? What's your teams name? I'd like to look the USSSA website up and see for myself just how badass they are, and how well they do in these tournaments.SoCalTrjn wrote: Im trying to keep the team sharp for when they play the next game, in the playoffs and in any tournaments they play in after the playoffs.
I think you're full of shit. No way an idiot like youself could manage to assemble, much less keep together, the juggernaut team that you describe. Either that, or you just have some weak-ass competition.

Uh huh. They wouldn't care if you're providing free hookers after the game, as long as you're lighting up the scoreboard. This is YouthLeagueParent we're talking about here. These folks don't exactly have the world's greatest reputation for being rational about things. They're probably more 'sessed about winnin' than you are.SoCalTrjn wrote:I constantly talk to the parents of the kids on the team and have their input on everying I coach.
Oh well. No need for the handshakes. It'd be a lot easier just to get some bigshot lawyers involved, right?
Douche.
I dont coach either of the USSSA team my kids play on, I coach a Bronco division Pony league teamWar Wagon wrote:U-trip tournaments, I take it? What's your teams name? My younger son plays on the Lake Forest Dirt Frogs, my older plays for the OC Juice
I didnt try to involve Lawyers, parents who were Lawyers offered to argue my case for me, I told them "we will see whats going on" The board has said they didnt want their league to turn in to a club team training or recruiting ground even though several of the Boards members kids kids play on club teams around here like MV Thunder. I took my lumps, told the board I would do as they ask and I will continue to coach this team.

Who gives a shit? It's pee wee level competition. Dude, I was a head coach for a high school tennis team for two years and had a Valley champion. I sure as shit didn't teach him the skills to win, but at that level, the club players have been trained for years prior to me getting them. Then again, I taught the youngsters at the clubs during summer camps so someday a high school coach could take over for where I left off.
Even at that level, who gives a shit?
Now before you throw more useless stats at me, I also coached 5th and 6th graders in contact football, basketball, and baseball. My ONLY goal was to TEACH skills and let them all fuck up on the field because kids tend to do that. Hell, I even had a Stephone Paige from the KC Chiefs help me to teach basic blocking and tackling fundamentals since I had no other help. He couldn't believe how kids would be kids... THAT is they can execute in practice and go fuck up on the field. It's like that EVEN at high school and above levels.
Go figure.
That whole point of being "responsible" is to teach proper techniques and fundamentals, and make it fun at the age you are "coaching."
I've run into soooo many fucking loser parents that are all about being champions when they themselves never tasted it back in the day. They live through the kids and tell you what... those 4 kids that quit your team were prolly good but got turned off by a fucking idiot coach like yourself where they may quit sports all together.
You need to get away not only from coaching, but from the sidelines. I'm dead serious too. I've seen so many parents like you over the years. Parasites.

what part of my post about the kids on my team having fun did you miss. Also three kids quit and one got hurt, two of those that quit said had nothing to do with my team, they just said that they didnt want to play basbeall 6 or 7 times a week and playing in 2 leagues was too much for them, the third moved away. the injured kid is my assistant now, he keeps all of our stats, pitch counts and so on. He wears his jersey and cap and runs laps with his teammates.
After I first took this team and drafted the 5 players the team needed to replace from the year before I called every parent up and asked them what they were looking for this year. Just about everyone said a title, all of them said they wanted their sons to have fun. These kids have a lot of fun, everyone is upbeat and its a nice break from the USSSA grind. but then again, its easy to have fun when youre blowing your opponents out every game

One of Jim Sweeney's former assistants (Fresno State) coached a Buchanan feeder team and he knew I didn't have the horses to compete this one year. I just had zero talent except for one kid.
At halftime he walked over and told me he was going to run a Base 50 defense so we could just let the clock run and end the game. I told him what I was going to run and it was cool. The kids still played hard, but within our schemes. edit: we didn't tell our kids what we were doing.
If you're an asshole, or want to blow everyone out, the other coaches aren't going to be on your side. It appears you aren't "^^^ get's it" material and you have to go. Any competent coach knows the dealio and you don't go blowing other youth teams out. That's fucked up.
Why don't you understand that?

The only team that I am going to try to blow out is the team we play tomorrow since it was that teams parents that were pissing and moaning about a post game hand slap when they have only done it in one game they have played in so far.
Even in the 21-0 and 23-3 games we didnt steal bases on them after the 2nd inning, their errors and inability to make pitches is what got those games out of hand, the 21-0 game was 13-0 after they got us out in the first inning.
This next game is personal, after this one, we will just play to win

Yes, I went to USC
If you haven't read this whole post, here's a brief summary.
All of these kids have played several years working on fundamentals through the different levels
9 of the 11 kids currently playing are also currently playing on USSSA teams, the other 2 compete at other sports at the same time theyre playing baseball.
This team was set up to be fun with less stress from tournaments and travel
All of the kids are also getting one on one personal instruction that their parents have signed them up for at different hitting and pitching acadamies around Southern Orange County.
All I can do is what the parents of the kids on my team want me to do, their opinion is the one thats most important to me.
Im not teaching kids how to catch and throw, Im not working on their swings, they're beyond that level now and Im not going to interfere with the personal training their parents have arranged. If I was teaching kids that havent played as much baseball as these kids have, I would spend the time teaching fundamentals and sportsmanship.
This is a break from the baseball the kids on the team I coach are usually playing. They could win every game the rest of this season and win the title and it wouldnt matter to any of them as much as a 2nd or 3rd place finish at a 300 point USSSA Tourney over 1 weekend would, thats their priorities.
This is just for fun, hell, we went and shagged fly balls on the beach yesterday.
We didnt do a post game hand slap because it hasnt been sometning these kids have done since Tee Ball, we will do it now. They don't trash talk, at least not within my hearing range, and the coaches of the teams they have beaten havent said anything negative about my team. The only thing I was asked about by another coach was the precision of the pregame fielding practice and I said I couldnt take credit for it.
I can see how people who havent seen the games and are used to little league would think it was amazing that kids could play a game and not say good game after it was over, if i hadnt been to countless travel games over the last 4 years id think it was shocking too. I even agreed with the people when they said I should have my team show the other team respect even if my teams parents said they didnt want it done. Tomorrows game is going to be a message, after that it will be back to being less serious and just allowing these kids to have fun
dont know who those guys in that pic are

First, as Terry alluded to, when you look at the bedfellows this thread has created... Nuff said. If you can get this bunch united in complete agreement on...anything...well...you know.
And any time that you're letting Whitey take BP on you...welll...you know.

And frankly Obsessed Little League Coach, among the things you're not fooling anyone into...well...you ain't exactly straight.

Don't let the naysayers deter you, SoCal.
Notice that those carping about your skills are crybaby parents of kids on other teams, or wannabe little league manager losers in here.
I'm convinced the depth of baseball understanding these clowns have is regularly flossing their ass with a New York Yankee pantleg stirrup.
Your own kids, and their parents, love you because you're takin' 'em to the promised land.
All the crying you hear is manager envy.
Human nature.
That'll set the tone you want.
