Gasoline at $4 Coming to a Pump Near You, Unfazed by Rising Tab

By Joe Carroll

April 23 (Bloomberg) -- Whether it's $50 to fill up your Prius or $130 for the Ford Expedition, $4-a-gallon gasoline is coming to a pump near you.

Fuel prices are rising at a pace not seen since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita knocked out a third of the U.S. oil refining industry in 2005. Gasoline consumption is climbing twice as fast as last year and will accelerate when summer travel begins late next month.

``What we're surprised by is the increased demand,'' said James Mulva, chief executive officer at ConocoPhillips, whose refineries from California to New Jersey produce 56 million gallons of gas a day, enough to meet 14 percent of the country's needs. ``Even though the price of gasoline is up, the demand is up,'' he said in an April 12 interview in Houston.

Population gains and U.S. economic growth are causing an increase in fuel purchases, according to Orlando, Florida-based AAA, the nation's largest organization for motorists. The U.S. economy will expand at a 2.4 percent annual pace in the second quarter, up from 1.8 percent in the first three months, according to the median estimate of 74 economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Gasoline use is rising almost 5 percent above the five-year average.

Americans are resigned to higher prices, says David Pursell, a principal with Pickering Energy Partners, a consulting firm in Houston.

``Last year, we had pump prices well over $3 for the summer and gasoline demand was up,'' Pursell said in an interview. ``Would $4 gasoline cause demand contraction? I think it will, but I also thought $3 gasoline would.''

$3/gallon?
----------------------------------------------

All I can say is that I'm glad that the OL and I don't have the Ford Excursion or 32' motorhome anymore. When we bought the motorhome, gas was about $1.50/gallon and we put 10,000 miles on that sucker the first year. By last summer we were barely able to take it out anymore, so we ended up selling it. Hell, at $4/gallon, we'd probably only be able to afford one or two trips a year, so the decision to jettison it is looking better and better.

But the price of kool-aid has risen much faster than the price of gas, yet you liberals are only whining about the price of gas.

Hypocrites.

Looks like one more road trip this year. And that is only if I can't sucker errr talk my brother and his family into coming down here from Vermont. At these prices, my future children better get used to camping in the backyard.

O/U on time spent discussing Bush cabal conspiracy theories and impeachment fantasies?

At these prices, my future children better get used to camping in the backyard.
With divorce rates during the first five years of marriage hovering around the 60% mark, you should set your sights a little lower.

Given your inability to let the other person get the last word, need to always be right and love for discussing partisan politics ad nauseum, I'd have to set the O/U on your marriage at 4 years. And spare me the "I'm a different person here" argument. We all bring plenty of our true selves to the table here.

4 years will be this August. Wanna bet?

Damn, that went fast!

Errr...um...no. Congrats.

Mrs. OC and I just had our 5th Anniversary on the 13th of this month. Props to both of us for finding chicks to put up with our crap. :D

-------------------------------
PSU, I had to not answer my phone for a solid MONTH to get that clown to stop dialing Casa de OC. He was worse than a fucking bill collector!

Here's how the standard RtS phone call went:

RtS: BLAHBLAHBLAH...prison ministries...BLAHBLAHBLAH
Me: Uh huh.
RtS: BLAHBLAHBLAH...Jesus...BLAHBLAHBLAH
Me: Uh huh. I really gotta go.
RtS: Okay...BLAHBLAHBLAH...so who do you think is trolling as Valvenis?...BLAHBLAHBLAH
Me: Uh huh.
RtS: BLAHBLAHBLAH...Webdog...BLAHBLAHBLAH
Me: Uh huh. Man, I'm going out with my boys. Gotta run.
RtS: Okay, that's cool. Hey, give me a call tomorrow.
Me: I can't afford the long distance charges. I'm on a really limited income since I'm going to school.
RtS: No problem! I just got a 1-800 number, so you can call me for free! Talk to you then.

How anyone got to the point where they gave out their personal phone # to some jagoff on a message board is difficult for me to understand.

How does one get on speaking terms with other members here? You mean PMing wasn't personal enough for you? You had to take it to the next level?

Why??

Hmmmmm....uh...well....uh...

I guess for the same reason that some of us have gotten together for a few brews here and there. Overall, that's the only experience that I've had with anyone off the boards that I would consider "bad". Besides, I wasn't really worried about being stalked because I was renting a room in my house and the phone wasn't in my name, so there was no way for anyone to follow me home and take my anal cherry on my doorstep.

Also, the "original" RtS (there are basically two of them) was a pretty solid guy. He didn't start out calling that often. At first it was once a week, if that. And he wouldn't even talk about stuff on the boards. He was just a solid guy who just wanted to b.s. on the phone for ten or fifteen minutes. But as his health and quality of life started to deteriorate, dude got really weird and eventually metamorphasized into the guy that we all (myself included) mock today.

Rack this.

I remember when Elgrandepeehole showed up here briefly and he retraced the steps leading up to his pic showing up on the board (and wytched onto a construction barrel in short order). He opened that Pandora's box on himself by the simple act of putting his real name to a pm request he sent to Shrubber when Shrub was modding a forum at SC3. Elgrande got bagged on real hard in that discussion for having done this seemingly reckless thing. But in 2000 giving info to RtS probably didn't seem like such an insane idea.

First, never take anything that comes from Bloomberg seriously. As many know, I worked as a temp there for 4 months and I have the skinny on the coolest place I've ever worked. The info ain't exactly from the most reliable sources.

I think what 1smoothG describes as a “crater” is actually a small shadow cast by the improved definition of missjo’s cheekbone. That means the face definitely looks thinner, so I’m guessing she may have lost weight, hopefully not too much from the area of the breastesses.

The hair color works for me, though a photo comparison of carpet and drapes would work even better.

I like it too. I'd like to shoot a hot load all over your glasses and then watch you take them off and lick up the spunk like it was a vanilla ice cream cone.

Sin,
How in the fuck hasn't this gotten more run from the reprobates?

Seriously missjo, if that's really your pic, you have very pretty hazel eyes. In the 2nd pic, you look like you might actually be trying to crack a smile. You'd be a whole lot prettier if you smiled once in awhile. Just sayin'.
