Is it safe to assume we'll have new champs this year?

Carpenter will get Tommy John surgery and miss time going into next season.

The Cubs and Brewers have a pretty healthy cushion in front of the Cards and they are 9 back of the Padres/Dodgers for the wild card. I know I'm stating the extremely obvious but the champs are in big trouble.

Seeing as how there's been a different champ every year since the turn of the millenium, I'd say the chances were good anyways...

Speaking of fucked up pitchers, I heard Zumaya may be back Sept 1st. What about Rodney?

Yeah, I heard Zoom was scheduled to return either the late part of August or early September...he's been throwing lately to work on building strength up in his shoulder with the time off. He's been doing long toss mostly...no word on how he's doing velocity-wise.

As for Rodney, he's supposed to be back sooner than Zoom. He'll probably be back sometime in August. It'll be great to have those two back for the late stretch. I'm not convinced this team needs to make a trade for a guy like Lidge or Cordero but I certainly wouldn't complain if they did. Depth is never a bad thing.

If they can get a reliable late inning reliever through a trade or getting healthy, I really think the Tigers will win it all. They'd just be too damned good.

Oh yeah, just when Thames starts heating up, dude goes and pulls a Drew, errr, hamstring. WTF? I've had 3 Tigers on my AL only fantasy team this year and all 3 are on the D.L.

I think I may try and pull off a trade for Mags. His season ending injury the day after acquiring him would really suck for Tiger Fan.

Please don't jinx 'em...this has been another great year to follow this team and I'm hoping for the 'happy ending' this year. The stars are aligning for them to repeat as AL champs and take another crack at the world championship.

Hey Shoalzie, didn't the champs pick up your boy Maroth?
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
