ON THE DOWN SIDE, THE GIANTS LOST AGAIN!!! Morris had a horrific outing. The down side way out distances the up side on this one. I'm very close to mailing in the season. Three of four lost in Chicago. Cain got slapped around.

I'd be okay with Bonds never hitting another homer if they could just win. That is all.

Ya' know, as a Giants fan, I think I agree with you. I see Ortmeier and Schierholtz sitting in the minors and Fred Lewis on the bench while my favorite team plays an outfield of Winn, Roberts, and Bonds. Their infield isn't much better. You seen it? Feliz (never really panned out), Vizquel (okay, he's good), Durham (reupped for two years??), and the combo of Aurilia, Sweeney, and Klesko. Sickening!!! I think this year is done. Give it to the kids and let's see what they can do. No reason for this team they're fielding. And yet, just get it over with.

It's a major leap of faith on my part but I really hope the attention towards him cools off after he hits 756. It's a damn shame we really can't enjoy what this moment truly is but the guy is an a-hole and is surrounded by scandal and lies. When he breaks the record, I hope the talk can turn to the pennant races...something he won't be involved in. Let him brood in the bay after he gets the record and let's give the teams and players that truly deserve attention their proper due. With that being said...when the Bonds stuff goes away, the slobberfest for the Sox and Yankees will only intensify. Especially if the Yankees can rally and get into the divisional or wild card race.

I found a huge benefit in Bonds not hitting his record breaking home runs:

The last two weeks, ESPN has broadcast practically every Giants game. It's awesome (well, not if you're not a Giants fan, I guess)!!! It's like I live in San Francisco again. I get to watch Lincecum pitch tonight against the Dodgers. Barry, NEVER hit your record breakers. hahaha

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say he's not going to break the record until the Giants return home. The Padres crowd wasn't super harsh towards him but still, I don't think MLB wants a record breaking moment marred by booing and hostility eventhough it is the honest and true reaction of the fans. It's a huge moment in baseball history but its also one of the most polarizing moments sports history. Not everyone is excited about the moment and would just assume see it get done now just so the media coverage can cool off and we can talk playoff races for the last two months.

On this same day, you had A-Rod become the youngest to hit 500 at 32 years old. I think we can only hope someone like him continues to hit bombs for a while and he eventually overtakes Bonds. Canseco claims to have dirt on A-Rod but as far as we know, he's clean or at least one of the cleanest sluggers from this current era. I don't think we'd see nearly the anger and outrage about him breaking the home run record as we see with Bonds.

Who said anything about asterisks? Sure wasn't me. I just mention that there is a group of idiots in Halloween colors trying to convince themselves Barry didn't juice up and you go on Auto-Retort and cry about getting buttfucked in the mouth in 1989.

Besides, if you are going to try and talk asterisk about any year, bringing up the year Canseco missed 100 games, McGwire batted .230 (albeit with 33 bombs), and they combined for one homer and four RBI's during the WS is not the best idea, unless looking like a bleeding vag is your thing.

Do I care much about '89, not really. That was 18 years ago. I just brought up the asterisks because you have A's fans like this one (below) who enjoy bringing it up when it actually applies to the A's too. How old is that stadium now? The guy in the pic really is lost in the past. The outfield tarps give that crib a nice, comfy feeling. The Mt. Davis addition really helped baseball in Oakland too.
