The only band I really want to see before I die is Pink Floyd. I will go where ever they play to see them before I die.
I am kicking myself over a concert I missed in Abilene, Texas in May of 1990. My then girlfirend and I got in a fight and ended up missing Stevie Ray Vaughn. After we made up she said we could go see him that fall in Austin. Stupid Bitch! I never forgave her for that.

i was driving through the the Texas panhandle the day SRV died.
funny thing, the only radio station you can get out there played a couple Neil Young songs in a row...and i said to myself, out loud, "maybe Neil Young died....."

i'm happy i saw a bunch of old blues guys in the 90's before they died.
Buddy Guy (4 times)--not dead.
Albert Collins
Albert King
Johnny "Clyde" Copeland*
Junior Wells
Pinetop Perkins
Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown ( 3-4 times).
to me that was seeing living history.
*truly an unreal show in a small club venue. fuck. it was unreal. i talked to his band after the show, and they said he was "God". ripped everything. they were in awe after every show: "it's different every night". second guitar guy says to me: "how can anyone play that shit? he's everywhere. when he's out, he's in. we don't know."

Not a bad choice. Never seen 'em, myself even though they've been around a time or two. It's doubtful you'll get taht wish. They're old.Harvdog wrote:The only band I really want to see before I die is Pink Floyd. I will go where ever they play to see them before I die.
These statements are so wrong and so inept on so many levels, that it demands a Dinsdale response. I can't do it justice.I am kicking myself over a concert I missed in Abilene, Texas in May of 1990. But just so's you know, I told my "stupid bitch" (as if there were any other kind) that we were going to see Stevie Ray both times that occurred.
Sucks for you that some cunt (namely, yourself) kept you from witnessing a legend in action.

The difference between being 18 and 36 are huge. Looking back, I should have told her to fuck herself and headed to Abilene. I would have saved half my shit.War Wagon wrote:Not a bad choice. BODE be mine.
Saw Pink Floyd once, in 1974 or 1975, when they were promoting Dark Side of the Moon. I believe I may have inadvertently ingested some Psilocybin that night. Awesome version of Careful With That Axe, Eugene.
Gilmour, Waters, Wright & Mason.

A much more energetic lineup than the borderline-geriatric one I saw, I'm sure.Goober McTuber wrote:Gilmour, Waters, Wright & Mason.
I think the most memorable tune was One Of These Days, with the giant pig flying around.
I too ingested a variety of drugs. Enough that I was laughing, rather than shocked that the dudes next to us started raining glass booze bottles down from the upper deck of the Kingdome(Worst. Concert. Venue. EVAR. Needed mass drugs to tolerate the Kingdome).
Somewhere, my photographer buddy has pics of us wearing our Floyd shirts, still doped up the next day, sitting on and posing around the pig statue on Pike Street, which was pretty symbolically epic.
That was a wild-ass roadie.

But not as old as my sister who saw the Beatles in 1964 at KC's Municipal Auditorium. She didn't even think it was that big of deal at the time (I was two years old). When she told me about that many years later, I was like WHAT!?!
Quite possibly the greatest single album EVAR. I believe it was on the Billboard top 100 seller list for like 30 years.Dark Side of the Moon.
Too bad that Syd Barrett fella' wasn't around anymore. Hard to imagine what they might have been like had he not lost his freaking mind.Gilmour, Waters, Wright & Mason.

Let's see.....
I've seen (mostly in the 90's), among others:
Vain
Poison
Kix
Warrant
L.A. Guns
Ratt
It's too late for me to see any decent form of The Crue. I hear that Hanoi Rocks are horrible live (and, it's just 2/5 of the band now, anyway). I guess I'd like to see:
Robin Black and the IRS (disc #2 didn't blow me away, though)
Tsar (though their last cd wasn't that great)
Vain (again)
Blue Tears
Graveyard Train
Tracy Chapman
Roller (not likely to be anywhere near here, though)
D-A-D
American Heartbreak
Black Crowes (provided they only play songs off select albums...NO AMORICA, LIONS, NOR THREE SNAKES!!!)
Bon Jovi (I hear they're great)
Wildhearts
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Hollywood Teasze (I hear they're putting the band back together. If Frankeee's there, I'll see 'em)
That is all.

Of course were a full Pink Floyd reunion to happen, I would be on that shit. Same goes for the surviving members of Zeppelin. Other than that, screw the reunion shows.

One of my college roommates grew up in New Jersey. In the mid 1960’s his father took him to see the Monkees in concert. The backup act featured a skinny black guitarist from the U & L. I would define "high" as the state of mind I would have to be in if I were going to see Neil Diamond. Extremely "high". Giggling like a school girl "high". How did Barry Manilow get left off of that list?

I'd be willing to bet you're wrong. With the exception of Architecture in Helsinki, there is not a single show on that list that comes in for under $30.00 on Ticketmaster's site. Factor in also that I am married, so I'd have to include the wife, and include also the cost to drive to venues because the people who book shows in Rochester still think REO Speedwagon is cutting edge and you're talking about spending over $100 to see a show. Fuck that.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:I'm not sure how you define "high," but I'd be willing to bet you could see a good chunk of that list for right around $20.BSmack wrote:

Oh, let's see...of the artists/bands mentioned in this thread, I've seen:
John Fogerty (at Warner Bros. Studios for a taping of a Showtime concert)
Pink Floyd (twice, including The Wall)
Bob Dylan (twice)
Black Sabbath (w/ & w/o Ozzy)
Smashing Pumpkins (twice, incl. Lollapalooza)
Beastie Boys (at Lollapalooza)
Judas Priest
Ween
SRV
Black Crowes (about 6 times)
Rolling Stones (twice)
Rush
Lenny Kravitz (twice, both times as an opener, for Tom Petty & David Bowie)
Styx (although I'm ashamed to admit it)
Neil Young (Beck opened)
Deep Purple
Blackfoot (w/ Nazareth)
Robert Plant (once w/ LZ, two or three times solo)
U2 (twice)
Los Lobos (twice)
Eric Clapton
George Thorogood (thrice)
The Who
Phish (thrice)
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (joined onstage during the encore by Dylan (Rainy Day Women #12 & 35) & Springsteen (CCR's Travelin' Band)
Grateful Dead (twice)
Steve Miller Band
Lynyrd Skynyrd (pre-crash)
Skid Row (opened for Aerosmith)
Dave Matthews Band
Saw dada last week, and last night saw (and afterwards met) The Yardbirds in Annapolis. Oh, sure, there are only two original members left (Jim McCarty & Chris Dreja), but the vocalist sounds uncannily like Keith Relf, and the guitarist (Ben King), while no Clapton, Beck, or Page, still is no embarrassment.

I saw Lenny Kravitz "live" once... but it wasn't at a show. It was in a hotel lounge, and I had no idea who dude was -- only that he had a tude. A tude I made very clear was about to be corrected by a certain future messageboard-legend by dragging the little bitch outside by his hair for an asswhooping.
I think I've told that story before.
As Kravitz walked out, my buddy returned. He said "hey, do you know who that guy is?"
"Yeah, he's the stupid fucker who came this close to getting beaten within inches of his life for clipping tude with me."
I think that was dude's first tour, before he became a "household name."
And he's not the only top-40 recording artist I've threatened to beat up when I was tanked... because that is how I roll.

While I can't say that I've threatened to open a can of whupass on any musicians ('cuz that ain't how I roll), I've been on the receiving end of 'tude a few times. Like when I was attending broadcasting school, and tried to conduct an impromptu interview w/ Tom Petty for an assignment. The Everly Brothers were getting their star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and I attended the ceremony with the intent of interviewing one or both of them. After the official festivities were over, the Everlys were mugging for photos w/ fans, so it wasn't convenient to try to talk to them. But Petty was walking to his limo through the lobby of the Roosevelt Hotel, so I shoved a mic in his grille and fired off a few questions, which he musta thought were pretty stupid, 'cuz he gave me some smartass responses. He didn't appreciate my trying to get in the limo with him, either.
I was emcee at a reggae concert in Santa Barbara that Inner Circle (Bad Boys) was headlining, with instructions to introduce them onstage. When I tried to do so, the lead singer basically told me to get the fuck off the stage. I told the nog to go burn a spleef and chill.
Similarly, I was introducing George Thorogood & The Destroyers onstage at the Ventura Theater, and wanted to shake hands and introduce myself to Thorogood backstage before the show began. He copped a 'tude and game face like he was gettin' ready to take the mound for Game 7 of the World Series, and couldn't be distracted by specks of insignificance like me. So I was all like, "It's no wonder you drink alone."
Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes never dissed me, but basically insinuated during a live on-air interview that the female deejay from the station I was working at who was conducting the interview was a dyke. She was debinitely not down widdat.
Some of the cooler rockers I've either met or interviewed by phone are Alice Cooper, Colin Bluntstone (Zombies vocalist), and Joe Satriani (phone interviews), Peter Frampton, and Alan Parsons.
