No, they DON'T butt up against San Francisco. San Francisco is on the southern part of the peninsula and Oakland/Berkeley is on the northern part. They're separated by several miles of water called the San Francisco Bay. If SF were combined with any other city, it should be San Jose, since THAT'S the city that it butts up against.
OCmike wrote:Have you even BEEN to the bay area? I've been there hundreds of times, as I grew up about an hour from Oakland and have family in Berkeley. Trust me, you have no idea what you're talking about.

What, mtool, you don't like my pick of San Jose? How about Campbell or whatever other shitty south bay burg you want to pick. Really, who gives a rat's ass. The gist of my post was correct.

It's on the northern part of the southern peninsula. Oakland/Berkeley et al are located on the southern part of the northern peninsula. Or close enough anyway. Wow, isn't this riveting? Quibbling over this crap makes me long for Risa to return. Wait...I can't back that up.
Edit to add
Crap, I was wrong about Oakland. It's on the western part of the peninsula to the East. Oot.
OCMike... I don't think the word "peninsula" means what you think it means.
I live about 600 miles from there. And even I know that Oakland/Berkeley aren't on any freaking peninsula, and San Jose is quite a drive from SF, which it doesn't come anywhere near "butting up to."
But instead of just admitting you have no fucking idea what you're talking about, I suggest you keep trying to tell us that San Fran butts right up to San Jose, on the southern tip of the peninsula(to the south of SF, no less). It will be more entertaining if you continue -- at least to anyone who's ever been to the Bay Area, or owns/has access to a map of california.
Dinsdale wrote:I live about 600 miles from there. And even I know that Oakland/Berkeley aren't on any freaking peninsula
Sure they are. It's called the North American peninsula. New York City's on the eastern side of the same peninsula. You might want to write this stuff down. Might be on the Humpday Quiz tomorrow.

If you think Oakland isn't on a peninsula, you might want to let the folks who live in that city know, as I'm sure they'd be surprised to learn that there isn't water to the north, south and west of them. Go look up the definition of peninsula. I'll wait right here---->, as I'm sure you'll return with an argument of geographical minutiae of how you're still right. I also look forward to the next 20 posts as you try to last-word this thread.
As for San Jose, "butted" was a poor choice of words. I was alluding to the fact that it's the next closest big city to the south and is better paired with SF than Oakland and did a piss poor job of communicating that. <---- That, Dins, is how you come correct in a thread. Not spamming it with endless whining about how everyone else is wrong, that post totals mean nothing, and acting as if you are some sort of internet oracle, and then ejecting in embarrassment and hoping that the thread drops off page one as quickly as possible.

You really are kidding, right?
It's either this or work. I'm currently writing tech manuals for one of the departments here at work because I made the mistake of putting it on my resume` prior to being hired here. Which would you rather be doing right now?

There is no "northern peninusla", "eastern peninsula" or any other "xxx peninsula".
If you told anybody from Oakland that they were from the Peninsula you might find a knife in your gut.
Regardless what the messicans with spiderweb tatts on their elbows and baby mama's names on their necks say, you're saying SF isn't located on a peninsula? Yikes!

Man, it's really getting ugly in here.
Do continue, Mike.
You forgot this part, which is what I was responding to.

It was a shitty enough day having to deal with you fuckers, but now I find out that someone lifted my beef pot pie out of the company freezer. Grrrr... Where else am I going to find 46 grams of fat and 850mg of sodium in one serving?
San Francisco is on the northern tip of the peninsula that makes up "The Peninsula". However, the rest of the peninsula is known as The Peninsula to differentiate it from San Francisco, which is known as The City.
Hence, starting from San Francisco and moving in a counterclockwise direction you have:
The City (or to some Flatlanders..."Frisco" :? )
The Peninsula
The South Bay
The East Bay
The North Bay
Marin County likes to think that they're separate from everybody else, but they're not
("talkin' 'bout Mill Valley California, that's my home...")

BTW, I guess I should ask for a media tag, for all those working stiffs that might get nailed for screwing off while they are supposed to be working.

We're all out of those. How about a toe tag instead?
