The Boston Red Sox became the first team in the majors to clinch a playoff spot this season!
Eric Gagne got the win! JD Drew and Julio Lugo Homered in the clinching victory!
Who would have figured??

I expect the Angels and Indians will follow soon with the Yankees not far behind that!
The National League will probably go down to the last day before all teams are decided.
Mets, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Padres, Phillies, ..
even the Rockies and Brewers have a shot!!

Someone could start a "what if the Cubs won the WS thread!!

The Indians are a win or a Tigers loss from clinching the Central and the Angels are still a win or a Mariners loss away from clinching the West. The Yankees magic number for clinching a playoff is 3 over Detroit and Seattle...I'd expect all of that to be decided probably by Monday or Tuesday. The only race in the AL to follow is seeing who gets the best record and if the Yankees can catch the Red Sox.
I don't know if one team out of the four gets the biggest edge with home field advantage and having that extra day of rest in the ALDS...all of them just need to worry about is securing a spot and rolling the dice once we get to October. There really isn't a lot of seperation between the four teams...this could be one of the best AL playoffs since they've gone to the wild card format.
