what's the word on BC getting shitcanned?
I have no doubt this tool is through.
I have no doubt this tool is through.
BC is done. But TO said nobody was getting canned before the season was over. Though they could offer BC his buyout and invite him to leave early, wouldn't surprise me if that has already happened.
There are an assortment of names being bandied-about:
Bo Pelini
Patterson from TCU
Paul Johnson from Navy
Leavitt(ya, fat chance)
Turner Gill
Others being mentioned: Chris Peterson from Boise, Muschamp from Auburn, Kelly from Cinci, and Bud Foster from Va Tech.
I would add Norm Chow and Jim Grobe to the list.
What could impact is who else ends-up hiring after the season. If Mich goes looking do they opt for Miles or Kelly? Neither? If Miles leaves Bo gets the LSU job and Kelly may give us a look. Who does ATM throw $$$ at? Rumor is Tuberville, which would make Muschamp HC at Auburn. Though I think Muschamp would be down a little ways on the list anyway.

This is your answer. This guy may be the best coach in 1A. I would stay the fuck away from Norm Chow. The rumor on him was great assistant, horrible personality. He didn't do any recruiting for BYU, NCSt., or USC. Unless Osborne helped him pick his staff, that would be a disaster.Danimal wrote:Paul Johnson from Navy

I don't believe Stoops wants to coach in the same conference as his brother, and I don't know if he would like playing second fiddle to Pelini. If any school is going to promote a lifetime coordinator to head man, that guy needs to have a strong presence on his staff who has been a college head coach before.DiT wrote:here is the answer for NU

OC-Chow
DC-M.Stoops (assuming he gets canned at Arizona)
I also don't know if Chow would want to take a step back into coaching at the college level.

gonna be a pretty competitive hiring market this off-season.

No chance in hell Chow becomes the head coach of a premiere program. Zip. Zero. Nada.
Great technician...no charisma or presence. Not the guy you want in front of cameras representing the school or program.
NFL coordinator is the highest and best use for Chow.

I think M Stoops would coach in the same conf. as his brother if it was NU and not Taco Tech.
on a side note I don't think bob had a said coach on his staff
I know about Chow's personality shortcomings. If he got the job he'd definitely have to work on that and bring in coaches that can recruit as well as coach. I'd consider him but he'd have to impress me in the interview and give me a good idea who his staff would be.
Net rumor has Pelini getting named shortly after the CU-game, with preferably Rathman at OC and Mike Stoops at DC. Unfortunately rumor also has TO liking Shawn Watson as OC, hopefully whomever comes in would nix like that.

Ya you learn to take the rumors with a pound of salt.
If Bo is the guy I think we'd have some shot at Mike since they are boys. Otherwise I'd say hire Dan McCarney to be d-line coach and co-DC with Marvin Sanders(db coach). For OC I'd look at the guy from WV, Calvin Magee. Coaching at Neb would allow him to prove himself outside the shadow of offensive-guru Rodriquez, I think we'd have a shot at him. I'd say Rodriquez's version of the spread-option is the closest thing to what TO would run if he still coached, , I can see TO going after a guy who can run that O.
If we get an offensive-guy like Chris Peterson or Paul Johnson I'd like the aforementioned guys like Dan McCarney/Marvin Sanders to be considered-they are definitely Neb-type guys that can coach. Maybe we could do what worked in '03 and just ask what NFL position-coach Monte Kiffin thinks would be a good fit as as DC for us. Monte could probably put us on to a quality guy again.

Bob also has a great personality and recruited the shit out of Florida under Spurrier. If they were to make Chow the choice, he would need two guys like that on his staff.DiT wrote:on a side note I don't think bob had a said coach on his staff

Chris Peterson won't leave Boise State. His son is ill with some ailment, his family loves the area for some ungodly reason, and the hospital his son is treated at in Boise is some sort mecca for the disease.
It's not about the money for him.
I'd go after the guy at Navy personally.

Paul Johnson is intriguing to me. I think he'd be a great hire.
In five seasons with Georgia Souther, the worst season he had was a 10-3 one with 5 conference championships and two national championships. At Navy, where he's had a combination of 1 and 2 star athletes, he's managed to turn that program around to where they are competive. Plus, they've gone to four straight bowl games.
I've read that he tailors his offenses to whatever players he has. He runs a triple option at Navy, but I think he ran a more wide open option at at GS.

He ran a lot of triple option at GS as well, but he was more of a spread guy when he was the OC at Hawaii. At Large wrote:Paul Johnson is intriguing to me. I think he'd be a great hire.

Word is Johnson wants to run the spread-option, he just doesn't have the personnel at Navy to make it work well.
Sucks to see that about Peterson. I really like his offense. Sorry about his kid
June Jones could be interesting, Hawaii is a hard place to recruit non-Samoans to. I'd have to see who he'd bring in as DC though and whether he'd implement a legit rushing-attack at Neb.
I think Johnson would be more of a "Nebraska" guy than Jones though. I like the idea of Neb being a physical-team again. I don't see a return to the old days but I would like to see us able to bust folks in the mouth again.

I've never understood that. Shouldn't Hawaii compete for national titles in virtually every sport year in and year out? How hard can it be to recruit kids to fucking Hawaii?Danimal wrote:Hawaii is a hard place to recruit non-Samoans to.
June Jones: "Well kid, we're willing to offer you a full-ride scholarship, room and board, tutors, and virtually everything every other school is offering you, and oh yeah, by the way, YOU'LL BE LIVING IN AN ISLAND PARADISE FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS!!!"
Blue chip recruit: "Hmmm. Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather go spend the next four years of my life in Lincoln/South Bend/Ann Arbor/Norman."

I see your point, but most kids that age are ready to get away from their parents. And unless the parents are either dirt poor and/or planned on their kid getting a scholly to a D-1 school all along, you'd think it would be easier to justify dropping the extra cash on plane tickets, considering they're not paying for tuition. Plus it's a good excuse for the parents to go to Hawaii a couple times a year.Believe the Heupel wrote:Parents, man. Kids parents want to be able to go to home games. Plus the cost of getting the kids home for Christmas and visits is unreal.
It's just hard to fathom that so many kids are willing to pass up living in Hawaii for four years. OK, so you'll be far away from the parents for a few years, but that's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If I was an 18-year-old blue chipper, I'd probably say Hawaii would be my 2nd choice of schools after CU.
Granted, I've never actually been to Hawaii myself, so maybe I'm imagining it to be better than it really is, but everyone I know that has gone there hasn't had too many complaints.
