Daly to go over Niagara Falls

John Daly, one of golf's most colourful characters and longest hitters, will be in Niagara Falls on Aug. 3 and will try to become the first known person to drive a ball over the Horseshoe Falls. Daly will tee the ball up in Canada and hope to carry it 350 yards all the way to the U.S.

The stunt will help celebrate the grand opening of Thundering Waters Golf Club in Niagara Falls, Ont., a course Daly designed. Daly's longest drive this year is 382 yards.

"I have hit some towering drives in my time but to try and clear Niagara Falls would be an awesome feat," Daly said. "Niagara Falls is one of the true wonders of the world and one of the reasons I decided to design my first signature course in the area."

It looks like it might be a decent track if it's really as tight as it appears in the pictures.

Wait until Daly finds out that it is against the law for Casino Niagara to comp drinks to their guests. ;)

But seriously, the Niagara region has some sweet looking courses. This looks like another jewel. As far as Daly driving the falls, not a fucking chance unless he has a serious tailwind. There is simply so much mist in the airr that a 350 carry will play more like 400. But it sure would be cool to watch him try.

BTW: I wonder if Daly will use his regular sticks, or a driver specialy modified for more carry. I suppose he could even use a non USGA conforming driver to get all the distance possible. Even so, that is still one hell of a carry.

In 1999, they "legitimized" Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver OR, by having a head-to-head between Daly and Fredy Couples. I've never played Crosswater, but I've been told by others that if you play the tips, you pretty much have to be John Daly to even reach the fairways. Bitch is almost 7700 yards.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic at hand, but I just remembered that. As a northwest golfer, I will vouch for BSmack's statements -- mist and humidity will absolutely KILL distances. In low temps and mistfall, our crew, a couple of whom are some serious long-hitters, consider anything over about 230 yards a monster shot in winter. Same guys will drop 300+ bombs all day long in the summer(in case you were wondering, you could probably count on your fingers, possibly of one hand, the number of 300+ blasts I've ever made. I'll keep swinging for that 300 mark, though.

Good luck, Big John.

Seen it! Loved it!

Daly played all the way down the rough and still only lost to Freddie by about 3 strokes. Dude had magnificent touch from the rough to the pin.
If it wasn't for Daly trying to a ball from inside some swamp reeds instead of taking a penalty, he probably could have beat Freds.

When I first saw this thread I thought, there is no way Daly could fit into a barrel.
