Powerhouse Jenks beats #17 nationally ranked Tulsa Union 41-24.
Union won the regular season game 43-42.
I'm thinking this is the 4-5 time in the last 15 years Union has beat Jenks
during the reg season only to have Jenks beat them in the champ game.
any of you that know HS ball prolly know these two schools.
I think Jenks has won the state 6A title 1o of the last 15 years or so..

Birmingham is a loaded team with about 9 D-1 players. They will roll through the city championship and maybe
get a berth to play perennial power De La Salle in the California State Championship Game.

I have a hard time feeling that Birmingham will get to play De La Salle over Corona Centenial when CC is ranked #1 in the state and beat Chapparal to reach the Inland Division finals 68-14.

looks like the South has selected their three representatives for the State Championship bowls

Division 1 is Corona-Centennial
Division 2 is Oceanside
Division 3 is St Bonnaventure

I know the North has De La Salle again in D1, not sure who their other teams will be

Looks like the South tried to make up for not having any representation fromt he Inland or San Diego regions last year

Looks like Novato will be the Norths D2 selection and Modestos Central Catholic will be their D3 team. Last year 4 of the 6 schools in the state bowls were church schools, this year its down to 3

kind of, only they use 3 divisions based on male enrollment and you have to actually win the sectional championship to be considered for one of the three state titles.

I know Union and Jenks - do they travel down and play the Texas powers?

Rockhusrt is the only KC area team that travels - they put the beatdown on MN state champs Eden Prairie a couple years ago, then went to TX and got beat up bad by Southlake

surprised Disney or Nike hasn't tried to put together some MNC HS tourny down in Orlando

Im not a Centennial fan, just stated why I thought they got the nod. the Mater Dei game they lost was still before conf play started so it was pretty early and they scored about 40 themselves

Who cares if it was before conference play. Crespi beat the skunk piss out of Mater Dei in the quarter finals. What the hell does that mean. I'm sure if Crespi played CC now it would be different. Yes head to head Cent. beat Crespi but remember that Crespi lost their starting QB on the first series in the first game of the year and had a soph lead them to the Pac-5 final. No worries though. I think DLS rips Cent a new asshole on Saturday. St. Bonnie and Coach T's band of thugs will kill Central Catholic. I don't know much about the D-2 game but I think DLS shuts down Bass and wins the D-1 game.

Everyone thought that DLS would rip Canyon a new asshole last year. Who knows what will happen, its HS football but looking in the paper week in and week out its hard to argue vs Centennial when theyre beating teams 50-20 or whatever.

yeah, problem is there are about 6 times as many schools in Cal as there are in Texas.
The CIF Southern Section which is just 5 counties and does not include the city of Los Angeles has over 400 football playing schools alone and it has titles in 10 or 11 divisions. If they had an actual state tournament, there would be 20 rounds of playoff games

The problem isn't with the number of schools, it is with your system. Hell, Rhode Island has three divisions of football. Clearly, three divisions isn't enough in California if it would take 20 rounds of playoffs. First step is to seperate out the private schools who can recruit athletes. Then divide each up by enrollment as you already do. Now you are getting much closer.

Also, please provide some sort of stats backing up your claim that there are 6 times as many HS football teams in Cali as in Texas.

ok, perhaps 6 times as many schools was an over-estimate. but Los Angeles County alone has 305 High Schools, some may not have football teams though. There are 28 public school districts here in Orange county, most have 5 or 6 schools, that would make 140 public schools in this tiny county and probably half as many private schools, you still have Riverside and San Bernardino counties which are the two largest counties in the nation plus San Diego, Imperial, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara... and thats just for Southern California. I would have to guesstimate that just Southern California has 1000 HS football teams, and the North has to be somewhere close to that.

Southern California had 47 sectional divison champions and those 47 teams had already played 14 games to win the sectional championship. They would have had to have been pared down to 3 to face off vs the 3 teams that Northern California would send after paring down all their sectional and divisional champions.

How many games would these teams have to play to have a true playoff? if the 47 sectional champions were split in to three divisional groups and an at large was added it would take an additional 4 games to get to your Southern California Championship, now you have played 18 games and still have the state finals left. I see in Texas they have a 7 round playoff, how many regular season games do they play there? Id like to see a full playoff, would have loved it when I was in HS cause we were just CIF Southern Section Champs twice when I played but after the 14th game that was it, would have liked to play the D1 team from Fontana but there was nothing after the sectional championship
Each school here plays 10 regular season games
each sectional division has 5 leagues with anywhere from 6 to 8 schools in each league.
each league will send 3 teams to the playoffs and the sectional division will pick one 4th place team as the at large team
after 14 games you have sectional division champions, that was it for 70 or more years. in the 90s they started having the Southern Section Division 1 Champion play the LA City 5A Champion but after a few years of the City teams getting clobbered they stopped that
Last year they had the first California Bowls crowning state champions since the 1920's
the North and the South each send 3 schools based on enrollment and they had to have won a Sectional Championship .
The South won all 3 games last year and won 2 of 3 games this year with De La Salle beating Corona Centennial 37-31
De La Salle is the only team to play in the games both years
The problem is that the way they determine the divisions for the state championship bowls is different than the way they decide the regular sectional divisions. You have D2 state bowl teams losing to D1 state title teams in the sectional playoffs and vise versa. The D2 team So Cal sent was ranked 4th in So Cal but the other 3 lost in the Pac 5 playoffs

I dont know what they would do to have a playoff, play 4 game regular seasons? make more than 3 state divisions? If you have any ideas, write the CIF and tell them how you would change it

Just a couple of ideas off the top of my head.

1) Put the private schools in a seperate group. Like all private schools they can recruit players, offer scholarships, etc, etc. Not a level playing field with public schools who have only the players within their area.

2) Go to more than three state divisions. Like I said, Rhode Island has three divisions in their state, so only three sounds crazy for Cali.

3) If some of your "leagues" only have 6 teams then enlarge each "league" to a minimum of 8 teams.

There are plenty of ways to get it done if Cali wanted to do it.

Wisconsin has roughly 440 high schools. We have seven divisions for football.
