I don't watch football anymore
I don't watch football anymore
Time to step up to the confessional.
I've watched a total of twelve snaps since OU's BCS abortion. Shellshocked doesn't quite apply here, as I managed to scrum through the entire KC season ... but it's ponderous.
I don't give a flying fuck about football right now, and it's almost funny.
While the preceding events have occurred before (OU losing badly and KC shitting the bed in general), I've never dropped from the stratosphere like this. I'd confess to being ashamed, but I'm really not that put out.
Might be my fellatio/gazos moment, but I'll come clean and admit what's giving me my sports jonze these days ...
High school baskeball, err ... girls high school basketball and the local university's womens program.
:robotbuildingthing:
I can't name the starting five for the mens team here, but I can give you the rankings and leading scorers from most of the area girls teams. When we're not a practice with one of my daughter's teams, we're in the bleachers watching any number of the area powerhouses compete.
And you know the dirty little secret no one wants to cop to?
It's some of the best basketball on the planet.
I just said that.
I can't tell you OU's record or leading scorer, but I can rattle off Kickapoo's entire roster and tell you which girl absolutely needs to be on the floor more in pressing situations.
You'll no doubt cry pathetic ... but I call it sheer bliss.
I miss our little forum and the endless scraps of absolute nonsense, but at the same time ... I'm happier than I have been in years. My debates are in the bleachers these days. Kansas City's draft needs have been replaced by Casey Garrison's freshman impact on the Lady Bears.
Ponderous, man. I can't explain it, but at the same time ... I'm not in any big hurry to change it, either.
I'm hungry. Give me a cheeseburger, bitch.
Velocent has smelly armpits.

There's nothing wrong with that Orc. You are missed here in the forum, but NFL is a big time waster. I wish I would replace my time spent on it for something else!
Freshman football was not so 'exciting' this year. But most high school sports are a ton of fun. Especially men's water polo.

Could you, like, give some pointers to Mike Anderson? TIA.orcinus wrote: It's some of the best basketball on the planet.
Keep doing what you are doing. That's the ticket.I'm happier than I have been in years.
Evangel softball starts in less than a month, and even though it's colder than a cinderella_undercovers witches teat right now, I'm looking forward to that.
Btw orc, Meg asked if you were going to come watch any of her games this year. Seems she liked having you and yours around. I'll be sure to bring enough sunflower seeds for the duration.
War Quik Trip.

Trolling about killing yourself and fucking your mother is much more your forte than "giving up on football."

Re: I don't watch football anymore
The games themselves are still fun to watch...it's the media coverage that kills me. Two weeks between today and Super Bowl Sunday...eek, I'm going to avoid ESPN like the plague. The NFL is a two-day-a-week sport but with the NFL Network, ESPN and talk radio...it's become a bloated 24/7/365 hype machine.
Re: I don't watch football anymore
Absolutely. His daughter, Yvonne, is a selfish prima-donna that killed her team in the KTXR holiday tournament with me-me-me antics. She's a great althlete (committed to Texas), but should finish behind Casey Garrison and Kathleen Scheer for the Show Me Miss Basketball honor.War Wagon wrote: Could you, like, give some pointers to Mike Anderson? I've been asked about this several times since your last visit. In addition, we're going to be up in your neck of the woods three or four weekends this Spring for Super Regionals.Btw orc, Meg asked if you were going to come watch any of her games this year. Re: I don't watch football anymore
I'll probably never give up football.
I hate baseball - too fucking boring.
I hate basketball at any level. It's like watching Gnip-Gnop with a soundtrack of squeaks.
I would honestly rather chew glass than watch either sport.
I'd watch more hockey, but I'm an Islanders fan in Sabres country.

Then feel free to keep your ignorant fucking ass OUT of this here football forum.Toddowen wrote:Hockey sucks even worse than football. Thankfully, it doesn't recieve the attention from the media and get forced down everyones throat the way football does.

Enjoy yourself, orc.
If Oakland goes in the tank early again next season I'm gonna say, fuck it.
Switch over to dog-dress-up/eating, or something.

Oddly enough...that's one of my favorite things about hockey. ESPN doesn't have their grubby hands on it. NASCAR used to be the NHL is now...more of a niche sport/competition in small pockets of the country until they got more media coverage and now the drivers are household names and they have races all over the country and not just in the deep south. A better TV contract would help the NHL but unfortunately it would have to involve THE worldwide leader and their marketing wizards.

Re: I don't watch football anymore
I'm sure that doesn't help matters any, but this goes much deeper than any team affiliations, and I'm pretty sure it started a couple years ago. I think I'm just continuing the souring process on the NFL as a whole right now.mvscal wrote:Funny how that happens when your team sucks donkey dick.orcinus wrote:I don't give a flying fuck about football right now, and it's almost funny.
Don't get me wrong ... I still love the game. I just don't really want to watch it right now and there are other sporting endeavors that I'd much rather involve myself in. I think 20+ years of FFL might finally be catching up to me, too.
Perhaps 'Tart has a point, after all. Maybe I'm just the latest fan set adrift in search of something else.
As I said in the original post ... I certainly don't have it figured out.
Re: I don't watch football anymore
The league would be infinitely more watchable if they hadn't whored-out and turned it all into more of a product than a league.
That's the very long story short.
TRUE amateur sports do, IMO, hold a very great appeal.
So I get where orc is coming from.

Don't get me wrong ... I still lurve you guys and this forum.
This isn't some "I have a life" post to explain my absence. I used to think the fault belonged to a select few in this forum, but then I realized the blame was simply mine.
I'm all up for debate, but the topics seem to be morphing lately.
To put it perspective, my daughter's watching Hannah Montana right now (no school tomorrow) ... and I've seen this episode twice.
Hell. After a few more beers, I might even start responding to Paul again.
Ugh.

Mediocre
Football
League
and it's getting worse year by year. When you have to bring back 40 year old cripple qb's to lead your team, you know the poriduct has bottomed out! It will always be King, the gamblers love the action, people love watching, but the product is not good.
