Urban Meyer = Classless Prick

Post by Vito Corleone »

Got this off the Rivals board.

Texas coaches were doing their inhome visit with RB Darrell Scott According to Ketch this is what happened.
Word I got is that he [Meyer] kept calling the house because he knew Texas was there. Eventually Scott answered the phone and Meyer reportedly just wanted to make sure that he knew that Florida had a spot for him if he wanted it.

Scott hung up on him.

At least that's the version of the story I was told.
If this is true then Meyer is nothing short of a complete prick had has really moved up my list of people I want to see fail.

vito, what are you hearing about Scott? i'm kinda watching my CU buddies twist in the breeze out here. they still say Hawk nailed the in-home, Scott was "blown away", and are "optimistic".

that's weird about Meyer, is UF even in the picture? doesn't look that way from CU boards.

Actually the last inhome visit they had was with Darian Hagen and yes Scott was blown away. Basically Hagen told him that if he attended Colorado that they would scrap their current offense and build a whole new offense around him.

The good news for Texas is that Scott has not committed and we still have another in-home with him later this week with Kennedy and Major.

Truth be told no one knows what he is going to do but I would not bet money against the family ties Colorado has.

hadn't heard anything about changing the offense....though that seems weird since Hawkins "big thing" was he came with the Boise State playbook and such. though, he was never a coordinator there nor called the plays. wasn't like they'd had great success with what they were doing nor did it appear to be such a "super-genius" state of the art, high octane attack as he would have you believe. but, a lot of that has been personel, talent-level and a very thin OL group he inherited from Barney.

anyway, sorry to thread jack. thanks.

I think if Jamaal Charles had stayed for his senior year, CU would have Scott locked up by now. He'll almost surely be the starter at either Texas or CU next season. CU has the family edge with Josh Smith, but they're also coming off of back to back losing seasons, whereas Texas won an MNC just a little more than 2 years ago. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that CU will be competing for MNCs before Scott's college career is over, but Texas is obviously more of a "sure thing." It'll probably come down to whether he wants to be part of building something and be THE MAN at CU, or just be yet another 5-star cog in the machine at Texas. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed...

The rest of the country is starting to pick up on what the state of Florida has known for 3 years. Urban Meyer is a Grade A douchebag and is burning many bridges w/ HS coaches and parents. He pulls schollies when he learns that kids go somewhere else so that it looks they pulled the offer before the kid decided. I know schools negative recruit but he takes it to a whole new level. Him losing Holiday to Wva and Drayton to Tennessee is going to hurt his recruiting the next couple years.

Scott is a tremendous back and although FSu hasnt been in the game the past 4 months, I am curious to see where he goes. I know he has family at Colorado but I think he oulls the trigger on texas.

I think this is one of the reasons Trixie took his panties and went home. This Scott thing is just another in a long line of things he has done. That guy doesn't break rules, but he breaks the spirit of the rules. He lives in the grey area of rules and has no problem bending them to his interpretation.

Add the Scott thing to what he said to Daryl Stonum, Omar Hunter, what he did to Patrick Johnson, what he said to Zebrie Sanders, his little run in with the NCAA, what he said about some outgoing seniors, the way he treats his players who run into legal problems and you start to understand that this guy is bad news.

Too bad our resident Gator fan wasn't here to breathlessly defend Meyer, his knight in shining nylon, riding in with his jort wearing, slunt of a wife.

Great call, I forgot about the Tebow as a LB part.

He told Sanders that FSU players were a bunch of thugs and criminals. Considering it came from Urbie, high comedy.

Dont forget this guy had his staff contacting players down in the depth chart at USC (and probably other schools as well) telling them to transfer to Fla where he will guarantee they will start

Link?

Emmanuel Moody, 5 star RB went from USC to UF and there was a connection somewhere along the line between Meyer and either Moody or a HS coach of Moody's.

LOL

One guy transfering to FLA does not mean he was calling guys on your team. We need to change your name to Grassy Knoll or in this case Grassy Nole. :D

BTW Moody was never a 5-Star RB by any of the major recruiting services.

With that said, Meyer is still a prick and his tactics are going to get his ass in real trouble when his team is down and other coaches don't feel the need to call off the dogs.

You're right, Moody was a 4-star back, Army and Parade All-American.

Regardless, I believe there was a connection between UF and someone that coached Moody. But you're right, I'm sure Meyer didn't call Moody when he heard that Moody wanted out. I'm sure he also didn't call Armando Allen after this past season.

Calling a kid after he has made it known that he is going to transfer is a lot different than calling guys on a given team to try and get them to transfer.

Still would like to see something to back this, not that I don't believe you just that I think he would be in serious trouble if he did contact players from other schools trying to get them to transfer. I'm pretty sure this is an NCAA violation.

Of course it's an NCAA violation. That's the point. And I highy doubt you will find anything in print or link that states he called him while he was at USC.

-edit-

Meyer hired Jemere Holland's HS coach to his staff. He was recruiting Holland and Moody to UF, while they were both enrolled. Carroll got pissed and refused to release Holland to UF.

Still looking for some sort of link/story.

The link in the LA Times doesn't work because the story is in their archives. Here is the relevant text:

USC will not grant a release to former wide receiver Jamere Holland if he wants to transfer to Florida, according to sources.

Holland, who left the team and was dismissed by USC coach Pete Carroll last week, listed Florida as one of five schools on his release form. But USC will not grant the release because Holland's former coach at Taft High of Woodland Hills, Troy Starr, works at Florida as director of football operations.

Their close relationship apparently disturbs some within USC's athletic department who believe Starr and Holland probably communicated before Holland transferred.

So it wasn't Meyer, it was Troy Starr, director of football operations.

The question I have is why the hell does he doe these things? He is at a premier school in a talent rich state and he just won the mnc a year ago. Does he really need to do this kind of crap to get top recruits to play for him?

He might be the biggest tool in the history of college football

I said it was his staff, not Meyer
Starr was contacting Holland and talking to Moody and Shareece Wright (who were Hollands roommates) about them all transferring to Florida if they were not going to start for the Trojans this last year (2007). Moody asked for his transfer in August after the summer practices when he and his uncle felt he was not getting the looks that some new guys were getting. The Trojan staff said they already knew what Moody was capable of and that they wanted to see some other guys get chances in practice, Moodys uncle started talking about "an injured scout team player" who was getting a lot of the reps, that player was 5* rb from Moodys class Staphon Johnson who was injured the year before. Moody said he was going to a school in Texas to be closer to home, then he went to Florida. Not much was thought of that until Shareece Wright said that Florida had been talking to him too and he was considering leaving, turned out that Starr was calling Holland and asking to speak to the other players, not Holland himself. USC granted Holland a transfer just not to Florida.
