NFL Hall of Fame inductees 2008
Emmitt Thomas- former Chief and also a former Redskins coach from 1986-1994
5 time Pro Bowl selection, 58 career picks and 5 TDs, won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and two as an assistant with the Redskins
Fred Dean- former Charger/49er defensive end
93 career sacks, two time Super Bowl Champion, four time Pro Bowler
Gary Zimmerman- former Vikings/Broncos guard
7 time Pro Bowler, named to 80s AND 90's All-Decade Team, one Super Bowl ring
Andre Tippett- former Patriots linebacker
100 career sacks, 5 time Pro Bowler, 1980's All-Decade Team
Darrell Green- former Redskins defensive back
7 Pro Bowls, 2 Super Bowl rings, 54 interceptions, six TDs, 1996 Walter Payton Man of the Year. Record 20 seasons with one team.
Art Monk- former Redskins wide receiver
940 receptions, 12,721 yards, 68 TDs, 3 Pro Bowls, 3 Super Bowl rings
All worthy selections. This summer's Canton enshrinement be a weekend where we see the definition of class, esp. with Monk and Green going in.
I have a feeling Monk's complete speech will be. "Thanks."

That's absolutely fucking ridiculous that Carter isn't a first ballot HOFer.BSmack wrote:Chris Carter isn't a 1st ballot HoFer?

Only one person has more receptions and TD receptions than Carter and that's the incomparable Jerry Rice.
What else does a receiver have to do to be a first ballot HOFer? Besides changing their name to Jerry Rice.
What about Marvin Harrison in a few years? If Carter doesn't get in on his first attempt, no way Tim Brown does either.
Re: NFL Hall of Fame inductees 2008
I believe that Thomas should be in just on his stats alone. Supremely talented at one dimension of the game (rushing the QB) but lacked skill at stopping the run or pass. You just can't discount how good he was at that one facet of the game though. It seems the voters are discounting it or being overly harsh to the fact that he wasn't well-rounded.Truman wrote:My sentiments exactly....BSmack wrote:Chris Carter isn't a 1st ballot HoFer?

Fred Dean??
Oh, ok ... whatever ....
Andre Tippett?
Hmmmmmm ......
Well, I dunno .... perhaps, if I'm in a good mood.
Hey, if the greatest punter of all-time can't get in, then stop the sham and declare that punters are not eligible for the HoF.
Cris Carter should have gone in.
That omission sucks ass.
It used to be that pro-bowls were a pretty good guage for whether or not a guy should get in.
Now that the league, in it's infinite wisdom, has turned voting over to mr dipshit fan, that goes out the window.
I'm glad Arthur Monk got in, only so that we don't have 12 page Monk outrage threads popping up every-so-often.
Congrats, Art.
You may not have been that red-hot, but you sure did play a long time and catch a lot of 8 yd out patterns.

He averaged 13.5 yards per catch. That's over a yard per catch more than both Carter and Harrison.
And if Monk ever DID catch an 8 yarder I guarantee you it was on a 3rd and 7.

Monk averaged 13.5 yds per catch.
Harrison averages 13.4.
Carter averaged 12.6
Carter made 8 pro bowls.
Harrision has made 8.
Monk made 3.
Carter had 130 TDs
Harrison is at 123.
Monk had 68.
Carter averaged 59 yds a game.
Harrison averages 80.
Monk averaged 56.
Both of those guys are a notch above Art Monk as NFL ballers.
Remove the burgundy and gold glasses and look at it.
I believed Monk should have made the Hall within 6-8 yrs after he retired ..... on the basis of being the all-time receptions leader at the time of retirement.
But the case for him weakened as time went on, due to the explosion of the passing game, which his career was sort of near the beginning of.
It's sort of ironic that he makes it in NOW, because his numbers are just not that overwhelming at all.
I don't think it's a travesty that he got in, but I just think it would be no big deal if he didn't.

it's simple.....they generally just will not send two receivers into the HOF in the same year.....BSmack wrote:Chris Carter isn't a 1st ballot HoFer?

if you want to lay blame, blame Art Monk.....
btw, I'm glad Monk finally made it...
I no longer have to listen to the fucking whining.....
get out, get out while there's still time

And based on that strategy, DT should get in one of these years. Too bad he's not around to whine and cry like Harry Carson.

One thing you won't have to worry about is DT making it into the Safe Driving Hall of Fame.

Derrick Thomas fans might want to settle in for a long wait. Dick LeBeau is still waiting for his call. And all he did was retire with 62 INTs and 171 consecutive starts (a record for cornerbacks).
