Purdue

Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

Played a soft OOC schedule, and had some bad losses to start the season, but wow, Purdont is really looking impressive right now. Some people may look at the Big Ten and figure it's weak since a nobody Purdue squad is sitting atop the conference, but these guys can flat out play. They've beaten MSU, and Wisky twice on this winning streak they're riding. If it wasn't for the inexperience factor, I'd say they've got the markings to make a deep run in the tourney. They can seemingly adjust to any style or brand of O, and they play clamp-down defense. They're also pretty deep, and shoot well from the stripe. What more could you ask for? Obviously much depends on their bracket, but I think they're a legit Sweet 16 team, and possibly more.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming IU-PU game.

Why is it that IU & Purdue only play once this year? I consider that game a pretty big rivalry, how did the Big Ten fuck this up?

No kidding. In addition, in-state rivals MSU and Michigan only met once this year. But not to worry! MSU got home and homes with Penn St and Northwestern. Whooopeee.

I wondered that too when I first moved here. Where I grew up (Tobacco Rd.), all ACC teams played each other home-and-home. I just thought it was that way everywhere. Nope. In big conferences, they don't play home-and-home with everyone. Who you play twice and who you play once rotates every year. In the ACC, when the conference went mega, teams were allowed to choose two schools to play home-and-home every year. Duke chose Carolina (naturally) and Maryland.....so gone are the days of visiting Raleigh and Winston Salem and Charlottesville, etc. every year.

The scary part for non-PU fans such as myself is that we all knew PU was going to be really good, but it wasn't supposed to happen already!!! Their recruiting class was 4 top-notch Indiana kids with high hoops IQ's and a history of playing together on the AAU circuit. Two of them were HS teammates. Nobody doubted they'd be a major player in conference and nationally but again that was supposed to be a year or two away. I hate to say it, but PU plays a pretty game of basketball. I don't know if I've even seen a team this young play this good of defense. Most kids can play offense pretty good right away but the other side of the ball takes a bit to grasp so well. They'll have the vast majority of this team for the next 2 years too. Meanwhile the program to their south is imploding and entering full on rebuilding mode. Bad times, bad times.
"Our staff is going to ensure that anyone who attends this University and wears the Indiana uniform will make this privilege among their highest priorities and not treat the opportunity as an entitlement,'' Crean said in a statement. "We fully expect our student-athletes to accept the responsibilities academically, athletically and socially that come with representing one of the top programs in college basketball history."
