Faneca rumored to be considering the Jets

Post by BSmack »

Is Alan Faneca not familiar with the history of former Steelers with the Jets?

Does he really want to be the next Neil O'Donnell? Kemo Von Olhoffen?

To paraphrase the late Myron Cope...

The curse of the Jets is poised to strike!

Why do you think Faneca "sucks"? Do you have any facts to back that up? :meds:

So I guess he shouldn't be near the top of almost ALL the sports networks' top free agents, huh?

Go ahead and sign Kendrell Faneca, though. Sounds like he'd be a good fit on the Queefs.
To be perfectly fair, Faneca was pulling double duty last year covering for the absolute and total ineptitude of Sean Mahan's play at center. There really are no words to describe how overmatched Mahan was last year.

Edit: Just saw the rough details of the Jets reported offer. 20 million in guaranteed money over a mere 4 years. Hope the Jets enjoy having a 34 year old salary cap albatross around their necks in 3 years.

Done deal: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3271283" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

4 years, $32 million....decent numbers for a guy who'll be CUT in two years because of his age and his bloated contract. :lol:

The Steelers had a poor OL year in '07. They had a great OL year in '05. What is the really significant difference?

Faneca was really a consistent force on the line. It's not fair to blame him for '07. The Steelers lost a great Center in Hartings. He was really the spiritual leader of that group. He was a pro-bowl quality Guard who happened to be playing center...and if you watch some of the '05 play, you'll see he obliterated people left and right. If you don't mention the lack of Hartings in '07, you've really missed the boat in analyzing the kind of OL season they had.

Personally, having watched Faneca's entire career, I think he's worth retaining with the going rate at his position. There's no doubt that an OL is measured as a whole, though. I just think that the Steelers cut him loose at a time where they could ill afford to do so. Mahan will probably improve, but there's not a lot else going forward. I think it's safe to say that the Steelers really drafted and developed offensive linemen well for a number of years...but that kind of thing can't last forever...particularly as you lose assistant coaches along the way.
