There's been bean brawls/rough play in spring training before (didn't somebody go postal on Guillermo Mota a couple years ago?)...you should expect guys to play hard when they're battling for jobs and trying to make an impression with their club. If not, don't charge the fans money to go to the games. Ironic that Girardi...who managed a young team...doesn't recognize that the Rays are a scrappy young club trying to change their reputation from being doormats into being a team you don't want to play against. I like seeing the little guy take a jab at the big bad Yankees. Running over a catcher isn't necessarily dirty but Duncan sliding into second spikes up is.
As a Yankee fan I was pretty upset that Joe Girardi would have come out against the home plate collison. He of all people were as hard nosed as them came as a player and he should understand that guys are fighting for jobs.
