Hypermiling

Post by RumpleForeskin »

This whole time I thought all those slow drivers were uninsured or just stupid.
Estimates of potential savings vary, but one expert says the driver of a nonhybrid vehicle could improve his fuel economy 50 percent by applying basic tips.
An employee said she tried this over the last couple of weeks and added 59 miles to her last tank of gas. She also said it added about 10 minutes to her drive though.

I laugh at the cowboys who zoom past me only to meet them at the next traffic light. Must be they like to burn up gas ! I look ahead and if i see I am not going to make a green light--I will coast to the light. Fuck them if they want to speed up to the light.
I also have a stretch of highway construction where the speed limit is now 35 MPH (used to be 45). Assholes speed by me or get pissed off at me if they are behind me. Fuck them-- they going to pay my speeding ticket--doubled in a construction zone ??
Idiots.

So, you can save up to $100 per year (WOW!) but driving like an asshole.

Makes sense to me.

There was a feature on this earlier in the week on NPR. At the end of the feature, the main dude said that his techniques are so annoying to his wife that she drives separately. It sounds like his economy is therefore countermanded...heh heh.

I love the dipshits in their $50K SUVs driving 55 mph in order to save a little gas, and bringing fast lanes to a dangerous crawl in the process. Umm, ever consider a trade in, sport?

There are definitely situations where driving too slowly is a real hazard.

You better get to the Vogelhaus pretty damn early - the line out the door begins forming at 8:32 am. Ms. Vogel's muffins usually don't last past 9. You want to be able to recognize the bruise you put on Dan's face, before he's just overall bloody pulp.

I wasn't responding to your post, dipshit. I was responding to the article.

If you think that complying with traffic laws makes you somehow special, then you're even more senile than I thought.

Coasting to a stop light, too? Gee I never thought of that one either.

Get over yourself.

Jiminy Hendrix Christmas, Mikey!! Show a little respect.

It takes hard work and time to cultivate the Crusty Old Fart POV. Wolfman's just now starting to get the hang of the preliminaries. Once he finds his water wings...and Wheel Deliver shows up with the 30 pack of Beast Rice, he'll be in a better spot to field your disrespectful inquiries.

I guess I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

I know I should respect my elders, but when somebody twice my age says "fuck you" it just gets my blood boiling, almost as much a somebody who insists on going 35 in a construction zone or gets in the way of my cowboy pickup at a stop light.

Fuckin' bluehairs.

Its not just the way you drive. There are a lot more things to it like oil changes, air filter, tire pressure, A/C, and shit like that. I mean, if you really want to add to the mileage, you've got have the car in good running condition and the windows rolled down. All that helps, but if you think about it, you could be spending more money keeping your car in compliant condition which counteracts the savings you get on hypermiling.

What type of hypermiling techniques are required to ride the Rumpleway? You might save on energy by crawling into a massive crate and FedExing yourself to her G-Spot, as opposed to traversing those wilderness hills and dales by hand and foot.

Which is more fuel-efficient - gyrating in open space, or dirtpiping the RumpleFissure? I think that should be established first...

If you live in Houston and you've got your windows rolled down in June when it's 95 degrees with 120% humidity, to put it simply, you're dumb. Just sayin'.

Mgo, a lot of dealerships won't take SUV trade-ins right now because they can't sell them. Evidently some people have figured out a better solution.

Well, I guess that depends where you live. Up here, SUVs are still a valuable commodity because there are are no shortage of pussbags who believe they cannot function in winter without one...despite rising gas costs.

Read an interesting article on that yesterday. Apparently, many folks are doing math and determining that an SUV, almost paid for or already paid for PLUS feeding it's thirsty gas tank is overall - CHEAPER - than getting roped into another car payment at the moment.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflif ... newssearch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It also briefly descibes how some dealers are scooping up SUVs to sell in foreign markets.

This dovetails into an article several years ago that most all "VBIEDS" used in the Middle East, were using vehicles that at one point drove U.S. highways.
