Week 1
so far, some upsets but really, with the coaching and piss poor offense Vtech has, was it a really a big upset?
Wanny might be bringing in talent, but he's a clueless fuck when it comes to coaching(pro or college)
Without his thugs and rapists, Beamers still clueless about what Offense game plan means.
Gave up a chance to go to Game at dome for Better seats for KU-MU. had last row at Dome for illy-mu game, and fuck that the last rows are really shitty seats. getting drunk on, then fire up the grill before peeps come over for MU game. Nothing would surprise me in MU-Illy game. Both teams have playmakers(maclin benn), and if Juice has his best day as a college Qb, illy could win. Even vs tOSU, he was throwing ducks. And he struggled with passing(no way) in the spring and in practice.
Big12 are loaded
OU top2-3 teams in country
MU top 5-8 teams in country
Tejas top 10 teams in country
Taco Tech Over rated, But people think a top10-15 team.
Kansas top 15-20 team.
OSU if they could stop teams, would be a top15 team
Colorado,KST, aTm will all be improved.
QB class of conference is nailz

Re: Week 1
Steve Pederson should not be allowed around a football program. Wanny just sucks. Pedey wanted Wanny at Neb but Dolphins gave him one more year. So Pedey then used his influence at Pitt to get Wanny the job over Pelini. Wanny hasn't produced a winner at Pitt yet. Now Wanny is fielding a very talented and experienced team, but he still screws the pooch straight out of the damn gate and loses to Bowling Green. Nice. Love to see Pedey canned and the new AD hire Turner Gill.
Dammit VaTech, Beamerball is premised on winning on blocked kicks not losing. I'm sure Tyrod Taylor's redshirt won't last long now. I was hoping for Neb to get a big "we're coming back" win on Va Tech. Now win or lose it will have been against a team that lost to East Carolina. VT better win the next two.
The 12 did some good and bad:
ATM blew. Sherman seems to be pulling a Callahan, working his system rather than going for W's. But even BC didn't lose to an Arkie State. You got the horses, pound the rock and get the win.
Baylor had their chances to stay in it with WF but floundered. Need to keep that kid Griffin in at qb and let him grow, he'll become a good one.
Ya Wazzu had a new coach but I think Okie State still looked good. Their D will actually do some stopping this year. I could see them being a top25 team.
My 'skers were a mixed-bag.There was plenty of of first-game sloppiness. The D still needs work, too many guys out of position and not enough of a rush. But run-D was totally improved and we did show some of the playmaking that is a Pelini trademark. Pass-pro was solid but we failed to push/dominate in run-blocking. Ganz's wheels are a definite plus and he obviously knows the system well. But he needs to cut-down the damn picks and look for the TE's more.
Mizzou got past a game, talented Illni-squad. Props to the Tigers. Makes me nuts that we had a real shot at Maclin but didn't really go after him. That kid is just sick.

Re: Week 1
Yeah, I made a huge mistake thinking Wannstedt would win simply because of talent. I always say.....there's certain coaches out there that really aren't any good but they win 8-10 games because they've got so much talent it's nearly impossible not to win. So I applied this logic to Pitt this year. My thinking was this......backfield as talented as anyone, got some decent WR's, defense has some talent as well, easy schedule. Gotta win 8-9 games, right??? WRONG! There's certain coaches like Tommy Bowden and Dave Wannstedt that can't win no matter the talent. They just can't prepare their team week in and week out. I'm convinced you could give those 2 the 22 best players in the country and they'd still finish middle of the pack in their conferences.
I have always thought of Wannstedt and T. Bowden as terrible coaches, and I am not officially convinced neither of them will ever win.

Talent? What talent are you referring to? Shady McCoy is pretty much the only potentially "great" player they have, and he was neutralized today by BGSU.they've got so much talent it's nearly impossible not to win.

Re: Week 1
Beat me to it. I've seen Pitt play a few times and haven't been witness to all this alleged "talent." McCoy was a beast against MSU last year but he appeared to be the only guy keeping Pitt in the game. They looked pretty rough in most other areas. They may have some talent at a few key positions, but by and large that is not a talent-loaded team by any stretch. At some point "talent" has to translate into wins before you can aptly refer to it as talent.PSUFAN wrote:Talent? What talent are you referring to? Re: Week 1
I wasn't necessarily referring to Wannstedt there with that statement. Just shitty coaches in general. I don't think Pitt has Top 10 type talent, but I think they've got more talent than a majority of the teams on their schedule. While I didn't see the game, I'm sure they didn't lose to Bowling Green because talent was an issue for them.Talent? What talent are you referring to?

Florida couldn't move the ball in the first quarter. Tebow threw some bad balls as well; of course nobody will say shit about that or the three passes that his receivers had to drag out of the sky to make completions... You may continue your SEC homer orgasms though...Papa Willie wrote:SEC so far - I watched some of the UF/Hawaii game today, and it was like a pro team vs. a private school b-team. They were flawless.
BTW Willie what about that walk on punter I told you about! Durst is the SHIT... I don't think he'll be returning to the Olympic development team for soccer any time in the future that's for sure.

They might be decent if 8 players (6 of them starters) weren't suspended. They still put up 21 between the hedges.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:Papa Willie wrote:a decent Ga. Southern team

Re: Week 1
Oklahoma looked as good as it could in a game against a shit team. Killed it in the first half but after the long weather delay at half Bob was content with just handing it off getting people out of town before the weather got worse again.
Mizzou looked good on offense but their defense was absolutely inept.
Kansas should scare Mizzou. They are looking good and their defensive worries haven't emerged yet. I'll reserve judgement until they play somebody.
Texas' Oline looked much improved which is where they were lacking last season.
Nebraska started with a bang but started to sputter in the 2nd quatrter. Wayyyyy too much scoring by a team they should have pounded. Gave up some big plays as well. I think it is a lack of talent issue.
I hate to admit it but Okie State looked pretty good. Played with confidence and came out of the gates swinging.
Kansas State was more impressive than I thought they would be. Freeman looked strong in the pocket and more patient.
Texas Tech is overrated. Defense still is the suck.
Baylor and A&M suck!

Re: Week 1
Texas finally looked pretty good. Last year they could not even destroy the teams they should. This opener was nice because they did what a good team should do against inferior competition. Even though FAU was a bowl team last year, they served as a week one sacrificial lamb. It was nice to see Colt to lay off the interceptions in game one and do his best VY impression by leading the Horns in rushing.

in the long run, i'm not sure that's a good thing for UT.campinfool wrote: It was nice to see Colt to lay off the interceptions in game one and do his best VY impression by leading the Horns in rushing.
I too agree with Danimal, i was pretty impressed with OSU. they went into a hostile place, took control of the game....and when Wazzou started to think about making it a game the Pokes had the kill shot. i know Wazzou sucks but the Pokes have traditionally been a very bad OOC road team.
i'll be interested to see how Colorado plays....their fans are sky high. i don't think CSU has the horses to make this a game, but history says they'll show up.

You have a better feeling for the situation in Boulder than I do, but I don't see why CU fans would be "sky high." I've read the reports about Cody being much improved in practice, but that could be a result of CU's secondary, which is suspect at best outside of Walters. They should win tonight, and I think they will, but with the way this schedule looks, I'd say 7-5 would be a pretty good season. I know I predicted 8-4 in that prediction thread a while back, and I still think it's within the realm of possibility, but 7-5 is probably more realistic. Losing Katoa and Major hurts in terms of replacing Dizon. The backfield should be a strong suit with the addition of Polk and Scott, and the WRs should be better than last year, but I still think this team is at least one year and most likely two years away from contending for anything of significance. If Mizzou stumbles (and their D hardly looked like world beaters against Illinois), the North could be wide open, but they're still the team to beat, and barring a major injury or two, I don't see them not winning the North.King Crimson wrote:

they are sky high because of Scott. and how that promises blue chips. and Hawk gets people fired up (maybe too much).MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:You have a better feeling for the situation in Boulder than I do, but I don't see why CU fans would be "sky high." i posted before if i was a CU fan i'd take 7 wins right now, no questions asked. that keeps the momentum going. most people see that the schedule is tough; what i'd want to see as a CU fan is W's against teams of equal talent or lesser talent (right now)--like KSU or OK State and no slips against the ISU's of the world. if CU plays a Tech type OOC schedule this is 8-9 win/Alamo Bowl type team maybe.
as Katoa and Major....Jeff Smart has been great at lb, they say. I think Polk is going to RS. I like the WR/TE group. i think they will be good this year and Cody will be solid. as you know, the big ? is db's and pass rush. the latter could give the former a big lift early on.
the middle of the season stretch is brutal and the team may have to face being a few games under .500 and not cave to get bowl eligible.

I wasn't thrilled with our D but it didn't help that our back-7 played the whole damn game. Our secondary was quite depleted. We lost a starting cb during the Spring. Our other best cb got hurt last week and only got in a few plays. Back-ups that were basically 1B starters at both safety spots were injured. One got hurt early in the first quarter and the other didn't play at all. Our starting LB's never missed a play. We definitely saw plenty of mistakes but considering the low experience-level and high reps it was somewhat understandable.
Granted WMU was totally playing the run and stacking the box and we were able to pass all over WMU but our O-line still needs to get more of a push. Our O has to keep our meh D off the field with long, ground-oriented drives.

So not only do you attempt to paint an FCS school that, as SunCoast pointed out, was missing 6 starters as "decent," but when someone calls you out on it, you try to run smack? Dude, you should stick to posting scat pics in Cul De Smack and leave the CFB talk to the grown-ups.Papa Willie wrote:They could probably beat Colorado. Re: Week 1
alteast for Mizzou, they do get 2 teams, 1 especially that will toss the ball around even more than Illinois did. So they will be able to work on those coverages and the secondary.
