I'll be in the other room, watching the HD big screen, but I'll definitely be ducking in to post my thoughts throughout. I'll predict CU wins 31-21. Scott runs for about 70-80 yards and two TDs.
Not a good first possession, to put it mildly...

I'll post here and there if the SO doesn't want to go out tonight... Go Buffs. Keep it in the conference!

KC, do you think Scott will line up at punter in this game, or will they save that for later in the season?

i wouldn't be surprised to see it. but, really, i have no idea. i'm not a big fan of it....but, then again, i think Hawk should punt more and think less over the last two years.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:KC, do you think Scott will line up at punter in this game, or will they save that for later in the season?
CU loses the field position early.
edit: there is some nasty weather moving over Boulder right now....could be a factor down south there.

Nice defensive stand for the Buffs after giving the Rams good field position to start that drive. They seem to be playing "bend-but-don't-break" and so far it seems to be working, but the lack of a pass rush troubles me.

i'm mystified by Collins D calls. but, i tell you this, i'd run play-action fake off Scott's first appearance. lb's will bite, get Geer or Smith deep.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:Nice defensive stand for the Buffs after giving the Rams good field position to start that drive. Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown in-game
I missed over half of the first Quarter on the phone with my daughter and now suddenly the SO is wanting to go do something. Colorado looked good on the TD but I haven't seen much otherwise at this point...

I'll take the cheap TD. 14-0. The D is looking pretty solid so far.

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown in-game
So far, CSU looks like a really, really bad team (outside of that HB with the ManRam dreads) and Colorado is only beating them by 7, so that doesn't exactly speak volumes about the Buffs. Barring a complete meltdown, I think they'll hold on for the win, but this doesn't look like a team that can beat FSU, let alone WVU, Texas or Mizzou.

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown in-game
i wouldn't give up just yet about CU. what CU needs to be (minimum) is a team that beats KSU, OSU, and ISU (at home)....get those 3 wins and beat CSU and EWU....and steal another one (maybe at ATM) and get bowl eligible.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:So far, CSU looks like a really, really bad team (outside of that HB with the ManRam dreads) and Colorado is only beating them by 7, so that doesn't exactly speak volumes about the Buffs. Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown in-game
Good win for the Buffs. Nice to see them take control in the second half.
Positives:
Sumler looked good and Scott looks like the real deal. Josh Smith looks like he's on his way to becoming a bona fide gamebreaker. Cody played pretty well. He still seems a little too content to throw it away vs. putting his head down and picking up a few yards, but he didn't make any major gaffes. His one INT is one of those things that you're just going to have to deal with when you have a 5'11" QB (unless they can outfit him with some nice, 6-inch KISS-style platform cleats). Overall, he seemed to make pretty good reads. He's never going to be all-conference, let alone an All-American, but if he can just be a competent leader and get the ball in the hands of his ever-growing crop of playmakers, he'll be alright in my book. Nice job by the defensive front seven to finally generate some pressure on the QB and lock up damn near every screen pass CSU attempted. Ryan Walters did his best Dizon impersonation, getting in on what seemed like every tackle.
Negatives:
The O-line made way too many mistakes - false starts, holding, bad snaps and that 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct call didn't do the team any favors. "Speedy" Stewart has some sick moves, but he's got to protect the ball better. The secondary got burned for some big gains and let's face it, CSU doesn't have anywhere near the offensive firepower of some of the teams down the road on CU's schedule. Just a lot of sloppy play all around. I'm hoping it can be chalked up to first game jitters as opposed to an omen of things to come.
Overall, I see a lot of potential on this team, but whether that potential is realized this season remains to be seen. It's a total cliché and I apologize in advance, but CU just needs to play smarter football if they want to compete with the better teams on their schedule.
