maybe Sudden Sam will serve as proxy? :)

or m2? Tennessee was his numba one team that year they smoked Cal in Knoxville ("their stadium is SO big!!!"), were the subject of the truth's insane predictions of big corn fed Vol studs, and then went belly up in conference.

if you look at this game, you say to yourself," can UCLA stay within 30"?

i know tenn changed their offense to a spread, which will have some kinks and growing pains, but they have a ton of talent there and UCLA is hurting in the biggest position there is, QB.

And i was looking at matchup crap, and it looks like UCLA lost some defense also in graduation. I know TEnn likes to lay eggs vs mediocre teams, but this game looks too easy. My head says to stay away, my Pocket book says to unload on Tenn -8/

You can hide a mediocre, raw QB with quick outs and emphasis on the running game. The biggest position there is for me is the O-line. With no O-line - no running game, no time for any QB, etc...

Ucla's O-line has zero returning starters.
They have 2 D-linemen playing on offense that will see significant playing time.
They are starting 2 former tight-ends.

I'll call for the upset here. Straight up. Teams from the east simply do not play well out west.

Yeah, it goes both ways -- especially when we're talking a team's first game of the year. MSU made tons of bonehead plays in the 1st half against Cal which resulted in lots of penalty yardage. UT was definitely not mentally prepared to play Cal last year, and perhaps they're ready now but I'm sticking with my gut on this one.

Our 3rd string QB is the best player on the Vols squad.

Phillip Fullmer is riding that 1 national title for all it's worth. He's had some great recruiting classes and still has No QB.

his FG kicker missed waide and was short with a 51 yarder, so he has him try a 55 yarder.

in the tenn newspaper it said they were running a spread offense, that is same boring ass formation they always run.

talk about a team and coach that always plays down to the opposition.

Shouldn't have made it to OT. Pooch kick? Why the hell hand them the short field? They don't have Reggie Bush back there.
Playing prevent on the last play? Prevent almost gives you ten yards a pop, and that is all Tenn needed.

Thankfully the Tenn kicker shanked in OT.

Props to the Bruins on a gutsy performance. Craft really came back strong, Norm adjusted well, and the Walker's D was money.

Congrats to Seer on a big win.

Me very happy. Until Carrol rats Skippy out to the NCAA
Fixed that for ya.....

You know what's gonna happen, don't you? Petey is gonna rat out Skippy and because UCLA isn't as big-time of a program as USC is you'll get busted while Carrol gets away with doing far worse than Skippy will do. Rick is a darn good college football coach, but there's no way he's going to stay clean. He better make sure he doesn't have any "chance encounters" with recruits that USC is also recruiting. Stick to cheating to get players the Trojans aren't going after.

Losing your starting RB, WR, and TE; throwing 4 picks; spotting Vols 7 at halftime; SECBallsucker Heaven, no?

Not a bad way to start the season.

Agreed. If there's only a few ticks on the clock, go ahead and pooch it, but there were what -- almost 30 seconds left? I think it only took two passes to get within FG range. Weird call. Fortunately for Skippy it worked out in the end.

Other than USC, it happens a lot when teams from the west come over here. I reckon you can chalk it up to young players being distracted from being in radically different environments...
Or jet lag. Don't forget, you're talking about kids who generally are 18-22 years old. Many of them have never flown anywhere before college.
