I think it's a genetic thing.... the "smart" ones move out of the midwest and never come back.

I mean NEVER go back.

Froz: I don't know if I knew those two girls or not. I'd have to see pics. I don't really remember many of the names of the random chicks. My first reaction to the names is, "no, I don't know them," though. Hopefully neither of us caught what the other one had. :D

MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Yeah, Naperville isn't Chicago. I even mentioned in my first post I was moving there, not Chicago, you freaking tard. It's like you're arguing against a point I haven't even made. But I don't care. I'll be just a few miles from all the cool places and it's a 5 minute walk to the metra which will take me directly to "the city." Does a farming town in the heart of Iowa really offer that, toolio? A pretty big reach on your part. Plus when I don't feel like venturing into the city at night, then the downtown Naperville area actually offers quite a bit. Best of both worlds, really. Seriously, what's to complain about?

In any event, my job is in Naperville. If I decide I want to move into the city later on, I can do so. It's no biggie.
Naperville is basically the same as a lot of the Chicago burbs. Not much difference between that and the Orland Park area (where I lived). Granted, I didn't spend much time there since I would either go into the city (where I worked) or hang at the local pubs in my area. But it seems like Naperville is similar to Orland Park and the SW burbs. Been told it's a 2-faced burb in that half the town is nice and the other half is full of thugs. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with Naperville......or really any western burb (well, past Cicero and that shithole area). If Joliet is considered part of Chicago, than Naperville definitely is too. Any suburb that offers easy access to the L is fine to live in really. If you don't have easy access it probably would suck. Just talking about Chicago makes me hungry for a little Geno's East pizza!

it's ~45 minutes on the metra from naperville to the city, not to mention the time spent waiting for that fucker [though the metra does run on schedule]. i think the place kind of sucks.

Nice, I thought it was longer than that since the drive itself is about 45 minutes.

Tell me, what cosmopolitan shangri-la's do you all reside in? I'm sure you've got plush pads in the trendiest parts of town with 36 different independent coffee shops you can frequent within a couple of blocks.

Good for you.

the ride itself isn't terribly long, but then you have to figure in time getting to the station, waiting for the train, and getting dropped downtown before taking the el or a bus to your final destination, along with all that waiting. i think that line drops you at union station, so you have to walk about six blocks to catch the red line.

i passed a short time in wicker park but was ran out by the hipsters and eventually settled in little village. uh, coffee shops? tiendas de cafe, i suppose. pilsen was nearby, as well.

When I worked downtown I would always drive about 25 minutes to Midway to park my car and then take the Orange line into downtown. Was about a 25 minute ride to downtown, 5 minute walk to work. Got to be a pain in the ass.

The thing is, Mgo, after a while you'll probably never go downtown for any reason other than work or the occasional shopping spree on Michigan avenue your significant other will force you to take her on. Downtown = tourists. Hard Rock Cafe, ESPN Zone, Rush Street are cool for about 2 weeks then it becomes not worth the time it takes to get downtown. You'll probably just hang out most of the time at your local establishments. There's plenty to do in the burbs.

I never hung out at coffee shops until recently when I learned a little secret about prospecting clients. Independent contractors/writers spend a lot of time at coffee shops and they're great Life/Health insurance prospects. Great place to meet potential clients. Never thought I'd spend time at a coffee shop before about a month ago!

downtown's rarely a destination. since mgo's from michigan i'm willing to bet he already has a sizeable circle of friends in chicago, so after the ride in from naperville he's going to have to ride the red or brown into the northern neighborhoods.

I am hopeful. Right now I would say yes, but I might not know for certain until next week. I've got some peeps out there I want to visit and if I can't make it next week I'm definitely going to try and get to a Steelers game later in the year. I have a plane ticket out of KC scheduled for Thursday, but I'm not sure if I can just get out of here for an entire weekend right now. One possibility might be to try and switch my flight to Friday night and come back Sunday morning. Not ideal, but it might be the only option.

Where the fuck do you live? The mountains???? Dude, have you ever lived in a fucking big city? Who the fuck wants to hang out with a bunch of tourists when they're not on vacation? People that live in the burbs don't go downtown that often because that's where the tourists hang out. They may work there, but they don't tend to go out there too much on a weekend. You hang out at local bars with locals you're familiar with. Just like any town. My god, you're a sad sad person. Why would Mgo want to spend 45-60 minutes EACH WAY going downtown to hang out with a bunch of tourists when he can stay in his area and hang out with his homeboys? Are you really this fucking stupid?

Dude, go back to Fruitcake Land and leave this discussion to those of us that get laid, don't live with our parents, and have hit puberty. And quit sending your town to the midwest. We want nothing to do with faggots like you....

$100,000 a year and you're bragging!!!??? AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Dude, $100k in Cali = jack shit in the midwest. That's like making $10 an hour relatively speaking out here. Shit, probably every household within a few blocks of where I live makes AT LEAST that much and the cost of living here is much less.

Somebody stop me from laughing so hard! Retard is bragging about $100k per year!!!

And even more hilarious is he's bragging about what OTHER people in his county are doing. I suppose they pay you $100k per year to greet customers at Wal-Mart, right??? Fucking idiot!

Again, where did I say Naperville = Chicago? I very clearly said I was moving to NAPERVILLE and would be willing to have a beer with anyone from the CHICAGO AREA. You might wanna work on those reading comprehension skills considering your chosen trade, dickbag.

By the way, for what it's worth, there is some bode to be claimed:

naperville is definitely part of chicagoland. hell, parts of wisconsin and indiana are considered part of chicagoland.

i still don't understand why downtown is still being equated with the city. the northern burbs are just as bad as the western burbs: tract housing, home depots, and the one or two pubs jon brags about that make up the one relic block of "downtown." the southern burbs pretty much suck [tinley park where you at?].

recommendations: i'd acquaint myself with the old town school of folk music. obviously not practical from a lessons point-of-view, but they do have interesting concert series. the pilsen art walk is also interesting, and some of the people you meet there actually aren't ostentatious fucks. they don't make windchimes, either.
