Wow, Rutgers sucks!

My goodness they are horrible. Might be time for Schiano to bolt outta there. Mike Teel = worst QB ever.

Maybe it's a bit early to put Fresno State in the BCS.....

Rutgers has had trouble taking it to the next level. They have improved tremendously under Schiano, but the next step's the biggest.

UNC rolled all over McNeese State by a single TD in their first game.

Crap, I just realized I took Rutgers -4.5. 0-1 so far this week.

Fantastic pick! Oh well, still 9-4 on the year with 5 games to go this week. Most I can lose is $25 for the entire season since I went 6-0 last week and took home $50 for my efforts ($75 buy-in).

I can't say I am too surprised by this. The Leonard-Rice tandem was excellent for them in 2006 and kept all the pressure off of Teel. Once Leonard left I thought they'd take a step back, which they did and when Rice left I thought they would take a major step back, which it certainly looks like they did after the first 2 games.

In time they could. There's always bumps along the road. I don't see why in time they can't consistently be competing. It just takes the right coach who can recruit the area well and they can win.

Sam, I'm sure the same things were said 30 years ago about schools like Florida State, Florida, and Miami. And who would have ever thought South Florida would be where they are now? I'm sure even Mucho would have thought you were on crack 10 years ago had you predicted they'd be at this level right now. They were playing non-scholarship football at this time 10 years ago and now look where they are.

Traditional powers aren't the only ones that can win in CFB anymore. It just takes a coach that knows how to do it and is willing to stick it out through the tough times.

I wouldn't have believed you 10 years ago if you said we'd have been in the Top 25 already.

We have always provided scholarships for football, but we played some non scholarship teams in the first season in 1997.

Oh, I thought you were in the same division as Drake is of 1-AA non-scholarships. What division was USF? 1-AA?

If Rutgers got the best in the NY/NJ area, and the sleepers he pulls out of Florida, they could easily be a top 25 team, with a 2-4 times a decade Big East title run

We played Drake in our first year, but we were a 1 AA independent before we went to 1 A.

Jon: was Drake ever D-1? just curious because Drake is a part of Colorado lore insofar as Drake beat CU two years in a row in Boulder....which is widely hailed as the absolute low-point of CU football (80 and 81 maybe)....and then Drake dropped football (the story goes). the latter may just mean they dropped down to D-1AA or limited schollies or whatever.

it was a pretty steep drop for CU, they went from sharing the Big 8 Crown and playing in the Orange Bowl in 76 to losing to Drake at home just 3 seasons later.

I believe they were. I do remember when I was a kid going to an Iowa-Drake game.

Looks like in the 1950's they had quite a rivalry with Iowa State. In the 70's and early 80's they played quite a few Big-8 opponents including ISU, Colorado, and K-State. They went 10-1 in 1981.

So from the looks of it based on their schedules they were D-1A, but not 100% certain. They were in the Missouri Valley Conference. I wonder why they dropped scholarships.

see, i think they were D-1 and then dropped.

but, like i say, it's the standing joke of the Fairbanks years at CU (outside the powder blue uniforms)...that losing to Drake and being there is a real badge of honor. Especially, the second time.
