I’d say Iowa definitely loses at Michigan State, at home to Wisconsin, at Illinois, at home to Penn State, and at home to Purdue. Pittsburgh and Northwestern are probably toss-up games. That gives Iowa a really good shot at 6-6 and the Big 10’s eighth bowl slot. I hear Detroit is lovely in December.TheJON wrote:I'll take 3 losses. 9-3 = CapitalOne Bowl. 1.6-6? Give me a break. I'm not even going to explain how stupid that pick is, it's a waste of time.
2.Iowa will NEVER go to Detroit. If we're bowl eligible, we're going somewhere warm thanks to our fans.

I'll leave the merits of the 6-6 prediction alone. But if you assume Iowa does go 6-6, under the 6/7 win rule, Detroit may be the only option, depending on the status of the rest of your conference.TheJON wrote:2.Iowa will NEVER go to Detroit. Re: Iowa State-Iowa
If there are 7 Big-10 teams with 7 wins and Iowa only has 6, we would either be forced to play in Detroit or decline the invite and I have a feeling we may decline it this year. That's a rarity for so many teams to have 6-7 wins though. But if we have 6 wins and so do a bunch of other teams, we'll get the good bowl and someone else will go to Detroit. Always will be that way.Terry in Crapchester wrote:I'll leave the merits of the 6-6 prediction alone. But this doesn't matter because there's not even the slightest possibility Iowa doesn't at least end up with 7-8 wins. We went 4-4 with a shittier team in conference last year so it's absolutely retarded to think we'd do any worse. In fact, it's very unlikely we'll end up with only 4 conference wins.
Goober putting Purdue on the loss list is probably the dumbest thing he's ever said. Tiller coming into Kinnick and winning??? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You have got to be on crack to say that. I'm not sure he ever has won at Kinnick. I do not remember a time he has. And on top of that, on a neutral field Iowa would beat them by 3 touchdowns. Purdue sucks.
There is not 1 single guaranteed loss on Iowa's schedule. There are 4 toss-up games (Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Illinois). We match up very well with all 4 of those games. Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Indiana.....guaranteed wins. Pittsburgh is most likely a win, but I wouldn't call it a lock by any means because we're coming off an emotional win and it's our first road game so anything can happen.
Zook = 0-4 vs Ferentz. They couldn't even beat our shitty team last year, so to call that a loss is just stupid. It's a toss-up.
Wisconsin-Iowa games always go down to the wire unless Iowa pounds the Badgers. Even the last couple of years when Wisconsin was clearly a better team they struggled to beat us. And Wisconsin is overrated, the game is at Kinnick, the Badgers don't have the passing game to exploit our secondary, we're great against the run and that is Wisconsin's strength on offense- running the football. So I like how we matchup.
Penn State hasn't been tested yet. I'm still not convinced one way or the other on them. But they are looking good early. Good thing this one is at home even though we've had a lot of success throughout the years in Happy Valley.
Michigan State is a game that Iowa should win, but it won't be easy. I think Michigan State will have a tough time stopping Shonn Greene and Jevon Ringer won't run on us like he did teams like Florida Atlantic. Our defense always matches up well with this style of play.
So, let's say Iowa goes just 1-3 vs those 4 teams, that's most likely a 9-3 record and a trip to either the CapOne or Outback Bowls. I'll take it.
My prediction though.....
10-3 overall record. 6-2 Big-10 with losses to Penn State and Illinois. Also a loss to LSU in the CapitalOne Bowl.
Big-10 final standings....
1.Penn State 7-1 (Rose Bowl)
2.Iowa 6-2 (CapitalOne Bowl)
3.Ohio State 6-2 (Outback Bowl)
4.Wisconsin 5-3 (Alamo Bowl)
5.Illinois 5-3 (Champs Sports Bowl)
6.Michigan State 4-4 (Insight Bowl)
7.Michigan 3-5
8.Purdue 3-5 (Motor City Bowl)
9.Northwestern 2-6
10.Indiana 2-6
11.Minnesota 1-7
Big-10 goes 2-5 in bowl games.

Re: Iowa State-Iowa
It would have nothing to do with arrogance at all. It's more the fact that a 6-6 record would make for 3 straight miserable seasons and there would be so much pressure to get Ferentz out of there and the fact that fans would be too pissed off to show up for the game. So I think our AD would just decline a bowl invite. It's possible that at 6-6 we could even decline an invite to a better bowl game. Most years that wouldn't be the case, but this year I believe that is what would happen.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:Why would Iowa decline the Motor City bowl (assuming that was their only bowl option)? Hell, you'll notice ND didn't decline the Insight Bowl bid in '04 despite going 6-5 and firing Ty. And ND isn't even a member of the Big East for football.
If ND took that bowl bid, I don't think a Big Ten team that's bowl-eligible has a choice but to accept a bowl bid with a conference tie-in, if offered.

Disagree. You can NEVER base Iowa off of the ISU game. You know that, minor. We've played much shittier against ISU and won 10+ games. In fact, we did that 3 straight years (2002-2004). All 3 of those seasons we played no better against the Clones than we did on Saturday. I've learned in this series, for Iowa, all that matters is a win. I've come to grips with the fact that we aren't going to play well, so I'm happy with a win.minorthreat wrote:10 - 3?

We stand at 3-0 right now and there will not be one single opponent on our schedule that will be more than a 2-3 point favorite over us. And there isn't a single game we can't win. 10-3 is not out of the question by any means. In fact, I'd say we're more likely to get to 9-10 wins than 6-8. Just have to go 6-3 the rest of the way for 9 wins. 7-2 for 10 wins and that's with a weak schedule. It's very doable.
I can also tell you that at this point in the season from 2001-2005 we finished much higher than virtually everyone thought we would. Last 2 years haven't gone that way, but my point is I'm far more impressed with Iowa at this point in the season than I have been any other year under Kirk Ferentz and he has 3 Top 10 finishes in 9 seasons.

Yes, I will stick to that. We are getting no love right now from Vegas because of our trends the last couple of years. That's why we're a 3 point underdog and also based on Ferentz' tract record in September non-conference road games. I'm basing that on the next 2 weeks. We'll be 5-0 most likely after next week and that will get us respect in Vegas. Watch, you'll see.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:there will not be one single opponent on our schedule that will be more than a 2-3 point favorite over us.More classic JONsense.

Indiana game we'll be an 8 point favorite. Michigan State we'll be a 2.5 point underdog.
I'll also make a prediction.....
We will be favored against Wisconsin and I'll take a sig bet with ANYONE that disagrees.

By the way, current line on Iowa-Pitt on Betus.com is Pitt -1 1/2. It's gone down a full point since the line originally came out.
Re: Iowa State-Iowa
If Iowa goes 6-6, giving them four straight years around the .500 mark, then Ferentz should go. $3million for that is just absurd. My guess is he does a little more than that, enough to keep his job, but still not enough to earn $3million.

I forgot our game was AT Illinois. I think we'll be a 4.5 point dog in that one. Other than that, yes, I am sticking to what I said.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:You said no opponent would be favored by more than 2-3. Do you want to stick to THAT?

Penn State we'll be 3 point dog. Michigan State, 2.5. Pittsburgh it's pretty close to a pick 'em. Every other game, I 100% guarantee you Iowa will be favored.
I may only rarely bet on sports, but I am fascinated with point spreads and pay close attention to them so I have a good idea of how and why teams are favored by a certain point spread or why they're the underdog.
You'll see......my prediction isn't as far fetched as you might think.
Again......Iowa is getting no love right now from Vegas (they didn't against FIU or Maine and covered by 3 or more scores) and they aren't against Pitt. There are reasons for that. Bettors know Iowa's recent history against the spread and it will take a few games for them to prove themselves to the bettors before Vegas starts giving them respect. I do not know the number but I believe Iowa has gone 0-fer ATS in the first road game of the season under Kirk Ferentz. Bettors are catching on. They pay attention to these things. Ask a Vegas oddsmaker who they think will win the game straight up and they'll pick Iowa, no doubt. But they can't make Iowa the favorite or all of the money will jump over to Pitt's side because of the recent trends. If that happens, in the event of a Pitt win (which is not unlikely, in fact I think Pitt has a very good chance to win on Saturday), Vegas would take a beating.
Re: Iowa State-Iowa
I wouldn't say he has to win a BCS-bowl but for that kind of jack Iowa should be a staple in the top25 and making respectable bowls(Alamo on up) on a yearly basis.TheJON wrote:In fairness to Kirk, the only way to earn that kind of money is to win a BCS bowl. No we're not, but nice try anyways. Piss poor take as always. You've set the standard so low for message board posting, you should be proud.
If you'll go back to my pre-season predictions you'll notice that someone on here (me) predicted a LOSS to Pittsburgh and a 3-1 non-conference record for Iowa en route to an Outback Bowl berth. Nothing's changed that (well, unless Kirk continues to play Jake Christensen and then you can chalk us up for a 5-7 record). I even said the other day I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa loses to Pitt though I was more confident in this game than I was before the season started.
But carry on with your pathetic, no basis behind them takes. You're truly an idiot. Please go take your garbage to the Cul De Smack.

Yes, I agree........if Jake continues to play.Goober McTuber wrote:I gave you the Pitt game as a toss-up. 6-6 might be be wishful thinking at this point, tard.
I will guarantee you this....
If Jake plays we win no more than 6 games. If we switch our long-snapper to quarterback and he plays in place of Jake, we win 6-7 games. If Ricky Stanzi plays the rest of the way (and I have a feeling Ferentz is forced to put him in there against his will) we win 8 games.
I said back in 2001 that we would have gone 9-2 instead of 6-5 had Brad Banks been the full-time QB. Our 2001 team was very much like this years team, it's just lacking a QB that can make a play and not wet the bed under pressure. Our 5 losses in 2001 were by a total of about 30 points and most of those losses we would have won had Kyle McCann not been sucking Ferentz off.
100% GUARANTEE you if Ricky plays the rest of the way, we win 8-10 games.
