If he turns out not to be a total abortion of a chief executive, then race as a consideration in presidential politics goes away. If he's the next Jimmy Carter (more likely he'll make Jimmy look like TR), the mvscal's of the world will blame the race, not the empty suit in the oval office. And they'll grow in number when we have a candidate worthy of the office who happens to be black. Obama winning could in the long term be the worst thing to happen to blacks on a national political level.

I was watching ABC or NBC...one of those primetime shows that was doing a piece on who was to blame for the sub-prime mortgage disaster. This piece was targeting the consumers rather than the banks or lenders. They interviewed about 5 different homeowners (4 white and 1 black) who were about to lose their house because they bit off more than they could chew. The four white homeowners blamed themselves for their predicament and were doing everything they could think of to get out of the situation unscathed. One couple was even raffling their house for $50 a ticket and were trying to raise half a mil so they could get out from under the mortgage scott free. Some pretty ideal thinking if oyu ask me.

The black couple fell on hard times when the mother of the wife got sick and a lot of expenses piled up for them when they had to take care of her mother. Then, the couple took out a second mortgage on the house and are about to lose the home. They did blame themselves to a certain extent, but they were the only couple out of the five that were interviewed who said, "I see the government stepping in and bailing the banks out, but what about us? Why can't they help us?" There is the stereotype we've come to know and love so much about black people. They fucked up and now they want someone else to come in and fix their problem.
