No, not because he is probably responsible for me meeting KC Paul.
It was way past your time to leave but I've got say thank you.
I have been going to Chiefs games since I was a kid, I can remember being a member of the Huddle Club in the old stadium off Brooklyn. I went to the first game in Arrowhead and I went to a Pro Bowl in Arrowhead Stadium to see my boyhood idol O.J. Simpson. There were good times and a lot of bad times and the fans in Kansas City were always behind their team no matter what.
Then something happened, Lamar Hunt hired you and you brought in Marty. The Chiefs Nation was immediately envigorated. Chiefs Mania took over. The party was on and man we jumped in head first. Kansas City perfected tailgating and you guys encouraged it. You provided a game day experience that will never be matched. We would prepare the day before and then get up before the sun to pack the car to head out. It didn't matter what time the game was it started early and ended very late. Hell people tailgated after the games.
I don't know how many times I left so hoarse I couldn't talk, doing my part to keep up the tradition of the loudest stadium on the planet. Arrowhead and it's fans gave the Chiefs the best home field advantage in the NFL. There are so many good memories and so many good victories along with some heartbreaks too. To borrow a phrase "It was the best of times it was the worst of times".
Didn't we beat the Raiders like 15 times in row for a period of time? You gave us guys like Derrick Thomas, Niel Smith, The Nigerian Nightmare, Joe Montana, Marcus Allen, Priest Holmes, Will Shields and many more but every one of those guys there were two: Trezzell Jenkins or Carlton Gray or Linn Elliot, Eddie Freeman, Ryan Simms.
I remember the Magic like when Tamarick Vanover ran that punt back in overtime to beat the Chargers or Joe Montana going to Denver and finaly coming home with a victory on the late scoring drive. I didn't cry when Denver beat us on two real bad calls in the play offs or when Linn Elliot missed 3 field goals in 2 degree weather, but I did when Theotis Brown came out and sang the National Anthem the next season after his heart attack and when Derrick Thomas died.
So many good times, so many good memories, so many good friends. The DOTRF's would even hook up. You tried so I just want to say thanks Carl, you just stayed too long.
I think I want to thank Carl Peterson

Re: I think I want to thank Carl Peterson
Let me just add...
Do people remember what it was like around here during the mid 80's? I went to a game in 1986 against the LA Rams when Todd Blackledge threw 5, count 'em one, two, three, four, FIVE interceptions... in just the first half. They wound up losing 19-0.
The Chiefs were a fucking joke for over a decade, a laughingstock in this City, an arena league team before there was an arena. This back when the Royals were pretty damn good, and the Chiefs were only worth a few hearty guffaws on Monday mornings.
Carl changed all that, so yeah... he gets props from me as well.

I was only 11 at the time, but i'm pretty sure I was at that game.War Wagon wrote: Do people remember what it was like around here during the mid 80's? I never was a Chiefs fan but i always felt for guys like Deron Cherry and Albert Lewis when they were playing on some crapass teams "led" by guys like Blackledge and Bill Kenney. At least they got to taste playoff football when Marty got there.
Re: I think I want to thank Carl Peterson
For what it's worth, over a 16 yr period ('74-'89) KC had just 3 winning seasons (a 9-7, a 10-6 and an 8-7-1).Wagon wrote:The Chiefs were a fucking joke for over a decade, a laughingstock in this City, an arena league team before there was an arena. Included during that time frame were records of 2-12, 4-12, three 5-9's, a 4-11-1 and a 4-11.
Almost makes the current 6 year pitiful stretch by the Raiders digestible.
So yeah, Carl deserves some props for helping to get you guys out of the gutter.

Throw another rack on for Joe - Thanks to Carl he's another one of the DOTRF I got a chance to meet.
One of the games I'll always remember was the first Monday night game against Buffalo - think it was 90 or 91 - it was the first MNF in god knows how long and Arrowhead was just deafening..... we stood thew whole game and I couldn't talk (or hear) for several days from all the screaming.
Good times..... good Times.
Rack the Limo J6P BTW
