NCAA gives Texas a Christmas Present

Post by Left Seater »

On Monday the NCAA granted Texas WR Jordan Shipley a 6th year. Prolly the right thing to do since the kid missed both the '04 and '05 seasons with injuries.

With Colt back they will be pretty damn good, one would think.

This decision has pretty much sealed the deal that Colt is coming back as well. We were pretty sure that was going to happen anyways but now that his best friend and favorite target is back there is little doubt Colt is back. The word I'm hearing right now is that the only guy with a real chance of leaving early is Sergio Kindle, no one else looks like they are ready for the NFL or has given any indication they want to leave.

In answer to some negative recruiting that his happening he (Mack) did come out yesterday and say that all 3rd year sophs and juniors were encouraged to apply for draft status with the NFL to see where they would fall in the coming draft. Evidently there have been some talk from other coaches that Texas coaches don't have their recruits best interest at heart when it comes to their NFL future.

I agree, though i do seem to remember a shit-ton of kvetching on horn boards when Jason White got his.

edit: though i can sure see why there will be some UT players who might have left...would be coming back with something to prove next year.

I think the bigger bitching came when Double D got his 6th year because he was a drunk.

I never had too many problems with White since his came from the fact he had lost seasons to knee injuries, but to get a 6th year because your in rehab for what amounts to an addiction is ridiculous.

While BtH is correct, what Harv says makes sense. Dude should have to deal with the consequences of his choices.

Yes, get him the help he needs, but don't make a protected class out of him.

i have mixed feelings about the Dvoracek thing. i've known more than a couple people who have had serious addiction problems (one was a very close friend who is dead because of heroin with a baby and a wife, and just opened a successful small business at the time after getting out of the music industry and trying to "kick"--another, a family member. I'm not sure "choices" is the way to frame their behavior, to be honest having seen it up close)....but, i can see where this is a person (DD) who needed help in ways that are more important than a 2nd chance playing football at Oklahoma in the long haul.

DD wasn't an alcoholic. Even the guy he beat up and his family said as much. He has a chemical disorder that hadn't been diagnosed that is adversely effected by alcohol. That more than any addiction to alcohol was the mitigating circumstances that made it an impossibility of not granting him a 6th year by the NCAA.
