OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
You stay classy Sparty.
M hockey player Steve Kampfer just got out of the hospital with spine, neck and head injuries.
Last night, he was assaulted--boarded from behind and hit in the head and neck with a stick--by two State hockey players.

Quit your fucking whining, pussy. Doesn't look that bad to me.
Maybe your tard football coach should tell his players not to put the hockey players in the hospital, you fucking idiot.
Why are you posting this in the CBB forum anyway? Are you looking to challenge TVO for most English-challenged poster in on the board.

1) I posted it here because there isn't a college hockey forum.Screw_Michigan wrote:Quit your fucking whining, pussy. Doesn't look that bad to me.

2) Not sure what your language smack is.
3) If you can't see how awful this is you are obviously blinded by your hatred of Michigan. This was dangerous and outside of what is reasonable in a game where Michigan State was clearly out of contention. This kid may never play again, and you're calling him a pussy? You are pathetic, get out from behind your computer for a few minutes and try to find some semblance of a life.

Why was he in the game if he just got out of the hospital? If such a thing like what I saw on that video was endangering his life, why was he on the ice to begin with?
It's pretty obvious you're frustrated with yet another failed Michigan basketball experience, and it's in the form of this stupid, unnecessary thread that nobody is going to give two shits about. I'm sorry your team sucks asshole and MSU is yet again the class of the Big Ten. Deal with it, jackass.

Re: OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
This message board needs a hockey forum...
Kampfer delivered a clean hit and it was an unnecessary response by the Spartan players, simple as that. It bothers me to see Kampfer get jumped like that given the injury he had just recovered from but I can't imagine that thought crossed any of the MSU players' minds when that was all going down. It was going to be their 5th loss in 5 games against their hated rival and emotions boiled over. Kampfer is at risk to getting hurt again on a clean hit, let alone a blindside punch.
As for bagging the Wolverines for attacking their own...didn't a Spartan hockey player get jumped by another MSU athlete this fall? Rob Parker tried to pin it on Cousins which wasn't true...I don't recall if a culprit has been named. You just can't rip Michigan athletics for that incident when it happened in East Lansing as well.
I hope Kampfer is okay but all I can say to Sparty..."SCOREBOARD".

Re: OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
Hey Sparties,
Here is another article from a non-Michigan blog that expounds on how ridiculous your players are. Is there something in the Red Cedar that makes all of you douchebags?
Or in the case of the two posters here, the Kalamazoo river or the Huron River?
Andrew Conboy's horrifying response to Kampfer's legal hit started the whole thing. Nobody knows what Tropp would have done if Conboy didn't slug Kampfer from behind first. And though it's hard to tell where Tropp made contact when he slashed Kampfer, I'm thinking I don't care. It was obviously in the upper body, and it was disgusting.
Oh, and he slashed a player who was probably unconscious at the time. There's a special place in hockey hell for people like that.
Kudos to Central Collegiate Hockey Association referees Kevin Hall and Keith Sergott, at least for half of this. They gave Tropp a double game disqualification, meaning he will miss a minimum of three games. I'm not an officiating expert, but it's hard to imagine them doing more to Tropp from their standpoint. A major penalty and two game disqualifications is a huge on-ice penalty. It's up to the school and the league from here.
Meanwhile, Conboy only got a double-minor for roughing, meaning the CCHA will have to deal with him on their own. That's inexplicable to me, as all he did was blindside an opposing player and knock him out.
Let's hope the league does just that. If Conboy and Tropp aren't suspended for the remainder of the season, justice hasn't been served. The Michigan State hockey team and the university in general should be embarrassed by that behavior, and they shouldn't tolerate the perpetrators putting on the MSU jersey again this season.
I'm not going to blame this hit on the lack of fighting in college hockey. What I will say is that fighting, when done the right way, encourages players to have respect for their fellow players, as well as respect for the game. Andrew Conboy and Corey Tropp don't have any respect for the game, and it wouldn't matter if dropping the gloves wasn't so frowned-upon in the college game.
However, I will say that you're likely to see crap like this more often in pro hockey if fighting is washed out. Do people get hurt in fights? Yes, but more people are going to get more seriously injured if the players aren't allowed to police themselves.

So dude delivers a clean open ice hit and has to deal with that bullshit? It's a shame how far hockey has fallen in this regard over the last decade or so.

Yeah, nobody ever got railed from behind into the boards prior to the last decade. ![Rolling Eyes :meds:](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

I can think of at least one infamous hit from behind in the 90s...
![Evil or Very Mad ](./images/smilies/icon_evil.gif)
Mucho is dead on though...you can't hit anyone without someone's pride being hurt/panties being in a bunch. Players take frontier justice a little too far sometimes. Did Scott Stevens have to deal with this crap when he'd lay out Ron Francis/Paul Kariya? You've gotta keep your head on a swivel.

Re: OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
Back when I played in High School and College (late 80's-early to mid 90's) if you took a clean check like that, you got up and skated away and waited for your time to check the guy back. You didn't pull this shit of cheap shots from behind, or swinging your stick at a guy who is laying on the ice.Screw_Michigan wrote:Yeah, nobody ever got railed from behind into the boards prior to the last decade.
Did the CCHA suspend #25 yet? Not only did he wind up and slash a guy who was defenseless on the ice, it also looks like he made contact with the official.

Re: OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
I'm not disagreeing with you, I just don't believe the apocolyptic theory that none of this shit happened prior to the previous decade. People have been saying this since the dawn of time..."Kids these days, I tell you!"

This would of been a perfect post for a NHL/Hockey forum.

Re: OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
Here you go, Blind Twat. Season over for the two, although, you could say their season's been over for a while.EAST LANSING — Michigan State coach Rick Comley suspended sophomore forward Corey Tropp and freshman forward Andrew Conboy for the remainder of the season Monday, following an incident Saturday night in a 5-3 loss at Michigan.
Conboy grabbed U-M defenseman Steve Kampfer from behind and knocked him to the ice. Tropp then slashed Kampfer with his stick in the neck area as he lay on the ice.
Kampfer was not seriously injured and is expected to play this weekend. Kampfer was playing in his 10th game this season after suffering a cracked skull and fractured neck in an on-campus incident in October.
“What happened near the end of the game this weekend is not the way in which we want our hockey program represented,” Comley said in a statement. “We cannot condone their actions. We felt that we had to send a strong message that this behavior will not be tolerated.
“However, one thing needs to be clear — this was an incident that was an emotional, split-second action, for which these players are being punished. I don’t want this to be portrayed that this was anything premeditated or that any single player was targeted."

Pretty much...they're in the basement of the CCHA, very unfamiliar territory for them.
Big series coming up this weekend...Michigan-Notre Dame in a home and home. (Yes, both games will be televised) A couple wins puts the Wolverines within striking distance of the top spot in the conference. 5 weeks still remain in the regular season...a half dozen teams still have a shot at winning the CCHA.

The "OT" in the thead title means that the topic is not related to the forum. Glad I could help.
Point is, these two goons are now suspended for the season, and rightly so. How can anyone minimize this brutal attack? Shit like this is why hockey remains a niche sport. A poor sport gets leveled on a legal hit and two guys retaliate...who's the pussy in this scenario?

Re: OT: You Stay Classy Sparty
Hockey remains a niche sport because it's predominatly played by youths in cold weather states and is not something affordable to all socio-economic classes. Where were you crying "Shit like this is why football remains a niche sport" when the players in the FIU-Miami brawl were clubbing each other with their helmets like it was prehistoric warfare and when two NBA pussies were slapping the shit out of each other and running away from each other? How about the epic SoCar-Clemson brawl a couple years ago? Every sport has its cheap shit. Hockey remains a niche sport because of its location and lack of affordability. And any anything Canada takes pride in, we hate, remember? Rush, hockey, dollar coins...WolverineSteve wrote:Shit like this is why hockey remains a niche sport.
As a Michigander, I thought you'd know better. Maybe it was all that time in F-L-A that seeped into your brain.

Although you're right, the actual source of the problem lies in what S_M said. More people would "get it" if more people were exposed to it and grew up with it. Currently, the % of those who do get it cover too small of a geographic portion.it's only good if you understand the game and know how to follow the puck

There’s plenty of exposure to it here, what with the high school teams, the state tournament and the Badgers. But there’s still a very limited number of true hockey fans. I’d wager that a significant percentage of Badger season ticket holders don’t watch much hockey on TV unless it’s the Badgers playing on the road. No evidence, just a gut feeling based on talking with people here.

Looks like Kampfer is a real piece of shit with a knack of bumping his gums to the wrong people. Sucker punched twice in months? Beautiful. Oh yeah, and restraining women against their will. Behavior issues seems to be a problem that runs in the family.
I only wish the MSU players would have taken another swipe at his ass for good measure.

Hockey player testifies against former Wolverine Mike Milano
Posted by Art Aisner | The Ann Arbor News January 29, 2009 11:48AM
A preliminary hearing for a former Wolverines player charged with attacking a hockey player in October got under way this morning in Washtenaw County District Court.
Eliyahu Gurfinkel | The Ann Arbor News
Steven Kampfer testified for more than an hour Thursday.
Michael Milano is charged with assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder and aggravated assault. Milano, a former walk-on running back, is accused of assaulting hockey player Steven Kampfer on Oct. 12 near the East Quad residence hall.
The hearing was adjourned just before noon and will resume Feb. 4. Additional witnesses are expected to testify before Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines decides whether to order Milano to stand trial on the charges.
During today's hearing, Kampfer testified for more than an hour. He said he met his ex-girlfriend downtown that night, and the two began arguing.
He testified that he grabbed her hand to prevent her from leaving. Milano then approached, Kampfer testified, and confronted him about the way he was treating the woman.
Kampfer said he was walking away when he was picked up, and the next thing he remembers was waking up in the hospital. He suffered a cracked skull, as well as other head and neck injuries.
After the hearing, defense attorney John Shea said Milano's actions were not unprovoked.
Last weekend, Kampfer was injured during an on-ice incident during U-M's game against Michigan State University.
Kampfer, a junior from Jackson, was clothes-lined and sucker-punched from behind by Andrew Conboy along the boards and whacked in the neck area by Corey Tropp's stick during the final minute of play in the Wolverines' 5-3 victory on Saturday. Moments earlier, Kampfer had knocked Tropp off his feet with what appeared to be a clean, open-ice hit.
After the incident, Bruce Kampfer, Steve Kampfer's father, physically confronted Tropp in the Spartans' locker room just before the game ended.
Campus police said the on-ice incident did not warrant a criminal investigation, while the locker room incident involving Bruce Kampfer remains under investigation.
