I guess my neighbor wants to fight me

He put a threatening note on my door.

Lately for some reason he started putting his garbage out on garbage day on my property next to my garbage. I don't know why he's decided to cross the property boundary and put his things right next to mine but he surely has. It wasn't that big a deal to me but I did notice that he always has a lot of beer cans. And I noticed too that he has some soft core pornography magazines there too. Like those muscle fitness magazines with workout girls in bikinis and oiled up. I wanted him to keep his own garbage in his own yard and he's single I know but I am married with a family and don't want all of that sitting in my yard each week on garbage day. So one day a few weeks back as he was putting his garbage out I casually accidently on purpose wandered out to my yard and I spoke to him saying in a friendly tone "Tom it looks like you are placing your bags over onto my yard." He grumbled something under his breath and turned right away from me and went inside.

My wife has come home for lunch a few time of late and she told me she saw Tom doing things like washing the car and so on. So she is pretty sure that he's been laid off work and maybe he's having a hard time. Anyway the only time I've ever had a problem with him was once he called our house to tell us that Tony and his friends were making too much noise in our backyard playing on a trampoline we put out there. I went out and told the young guys to cool it and that was it.

But last Friday when I came home from work there was a note on my front door. This is it exactly as he wrote it.

Mr. Vogel, your garbage was blown all over my front yard today and I don't appreciate that. I thought we spoke before about keeping our garbage to ourself. Next time please secure your things and keep them on your own property. I can manage things in a polite manner, but being as I am a former serviceman to our country, I know how to manage things with my hands when need arises. I trust we won't have any conflict over this in the future.

I was stunned and my heart sank. What is he talking about? He's blown things way up and twisted it around too. I've not ever had neighbor problems before that this things is just very wierd. I've always sensed that Tom is a little bit of an odd bird but never felt anything like danger from him. Now I don't know if I should just stay quiet or if I should call him or go over to talk to him or maybe even notify the police. So far I haven't done anything. But it's on my mind a lot.

Seems as if he said what he wanted to say in his note so I'm not going to press the issue at all. Friday is garbage day again. It will be interesting to see what happens this time around.

There was no incident on Friday. I saw Tom put his garbage out on Thursday night. He put it on my property again right next to my garbage. Maybe he is just trying to save the collectors another stop but I never said it was okay with me. I was tempted to go out and say something to him when I saw him but I decided to just let it pass.

Some strange happening. First thing up this morning I went out for a short exercise walk around the neighborhood like I've been doing the last month or so. It was still dark as I was finished and as I was on my way back I noticed something on the side of the house. I went up close and saw that it was an egg. Somebody had thrown one egg at the house. I gave the rest of the house a good looking over and saw nothing else. The one egg splattered. It's pretty cold and I had to work to get it cleaned off because it was frozen some. I hope it doesn't end up doing some damage to the paint there. It happened last night I suppose? But I don't know for sure. During my walk I didn't notice any signs at all of any funny egg business anywhere else in the neighborhood. Just one egg on my house.

Now the odd thing is that number one for the first time in a while now Tom put his garbage on his property where he is supposed to. I hadn't said anything else to him about it but I did notice this when I left for work yesterday morning. It was unexpected to see that but it was what I wanted so I was happy. The other thing is that this one egg was thrown on the side of my house away from Tom's property. So if Tom was still angry and he was the egg culprit then that means he had to go over to the other side of my house and probably stand on my other neighbor's property to throw the egg.

Maybe it wasn't Tom and I'm just borrowing trouble. Maybe just some kids pranking around. I don't know what is going on. It seems too strange anyway to think that an adult would do that. But these days you don't really know what gets into people. It's fresh on my mind now on the weekend so I just wanted to air it here. Oh well.
