Kiffin's 0-3
..and spring ball hasn't even started.
Is this guy really this clueless? Mentioning unsigned recruits on flippin' radio shows...!
If so Tennessee will get to feel the Curse of the Raider's Rejects; just like we did @ Nebraska.

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
For a guy in his first few weeks on the job he sure does seem a bit overly feisty so far, doesn't he?

I think its great, he's there to shake those old stuffy fucks up and he is doing just that, if his minor rule breakings keep everyone else down there from making major ones, then he's done his job

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
I don't think Kiffin was being intentionally clever, I think he was being a clueless dumbfuck.
Re: Kiffin's 0-3
Seems like he's channeling Les Miles' first year at LSU, where he was always saying stupid shit to the locals in an effort to fire everybody up...

Ya know Callahan had the same bravado., Made a comment once "we don't take what the defense gives us, we take what we want." before his first snap as NU's coach.
Of course everyone was giddy, and he went on to NU's first losing season in over 40 years.
Thing is, Kiffin's firing up Urban Meyer as well; pretty sure that doesn't work largely in his favor for the near future.

he seems like a real dickhead to me.

Time will tell. A big mouth and no results means a quick polishing up of the resume will be in order. A big mouth and big success means you get your likeness cast in bronze and you get a cool nic like "The Bootlegger's Boy," "The Ol' Ball Coach" or "The Mad Hatter"...

"half a hunnerd" is Switzer's contribution to CFB vernacular....Bootlegger is after he quit/retired/was fired.

like i posted in another thread, there is no string of ultimate success that will convince me that Les Miles isn't a baboon.
i never heard mad hatter before.

i watched this youtube thing with Lane and Monty after their UT fundraiser "gaffe" and they both seemed like dickheads to me. The Callahan comparison is not so far off...IMO.

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
Miles is sorta the Dubya of college coaches and just as LSU loves him ('cause they've won with him) so too will Vols fan love Kiffin if he can get over...

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
Of course that's absurd. He's not the least bit stupid. Overzealous, perhaps, but nobody anywhere who knows what they're talking about has ever questioned Kiffin's intelligence or his football acumen.
Still, even if it were true and he was dumber than dirt what does that say about Tennessee that they would entrust the resurrection of their storied program to such a guy? How dumb would they have to be in order to be so comprehensively fooled by such a nitwit?
There's a pretty simple rule of thumb anyone ought to follow: If it's, oh, 1990 or later and there's a dispute between Al Davis and one of his coaches go ahead and assume Al Davis was the one at fault and the coach got screwed.

9/05/09 Western Kentucky Win
9/12/09 UCLA Win
9/19/09 At Florida Loss
9/26/09 OHIO UNIVERSITY Win
10/03/09 AUBURN Win
10/10/09 GEORGIA Loss
10/24/09 At Alabama Loss
10/31/09 SOUTH CAROLINA Win
11/07/09 MEMPHIS Win
11/14/09 At Ole' Miss Loss
11/21/09 VANDERBILT Win
11/28/09 At Kentucky Win
7 wins should be pretty easy with that schedule, they only have 4 road games and 4 decent teams on their schedule, Kiffin will go 8-4

Which matters not a bit. They were insignificant things which will quickly be forgotten if he wins.'Spray wrote:Like the title said - he's 0-3.
As has nearly every coach in recent years who was underminded by Al. Mike freaking Shanahan wasn't even allowed to succeed there and Al ran off Chucky for the same reason he ran off Marcus Allen: His own ego couldn't stand other people being given too much credit for the success of the Raiders.I'm not doubting his offensive mind, but he failed miserably in Oakland,
Using Al or the Raiders to support any statement you make about a coach will always be wrong, unless the point you wish to make is Al is a senile, evil douchebag.
Oh really? 32 years old, a multi millionaire with a fucking hot wife and a great family...and he makes a wildly successful living by coaching a kid's game at the highest levels of the sport?and he has not (edit: I'm assuming you meant to say "now" there, not "not") put himself into a position that is awful.
That's "awful"?
We should all be such idiots. We should all have it so awful.
Oh, and don't hand me any crap that he's only there because he's Monte's kid. (Not that you have, but others have tried to make that argument.) There are a ton of well known coaches out there with thirty something year old kids and by and large these kids have not risen to the heights Kiffin already has. If Kiffin wasn't well thought of by Pete Carroll and Norm Chow he doesn't land the single most prestigious OC gig in CF. If he doesn't do well there he doesn't receive rave reviews from Pete and Norm, leading to his being the "hot ticket" coach and a gig as the youngest HC in NFL history. If the rest of the football world didn't fully understand that his failure at Oakland was Al's fault, not his, he doesn't remain one of the sport's hottest young coaching tickets.
He sure as fuck isn't hotly pursued to coach one of the more storied programs in the country. Nepotism only goes so far and Tennessee has no strong ties to the Kiffins anyway.
Kiffin was hired by Tennessee because he's very well thought of as a coach and especially as a recruiter. Recruiting is the only thing that can bring Tennessee back and that's why Tennessee brought him (plus Ed Orgeron, plus Nick Saban's old recruiting director) on board.
Now we wait a few years to see if any of this bears fruit for Tennessee. If it does, hell, they've got themselves a real rarity in the sport: a young, established head coach. If Kiffin does well he'll be able to plant deep recruiting roots all over the SEC and don't think for a minute that his and Orgeron's experience in recruiting in California won't also be a benefit.
Tennessee's hiring of Kiffin had almost nothing to do with his being Monte's kid. Tennessee hired themselves a top level recruiter, plain and simple.
Considering last year's season Vols Nation would likely only be mildly upset with a 7 win season in Kiffin's first year there.OC If he has a 7 win season this year, he will probably be shot and killed.
They're not very forgiving of born and bread 'necks doing the same, either. Nothing unique about the SEC there, on either score. The SE is not very forgiving when it comes to yankee boys coming down to coach, running their mouths, and then not delivering.

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
Tennessee has no right to expect much more than a 7-5 season. They didn't even go to a bowl game last year. If he goes 7-5 next season they can act pissed all they want but cooler heads will prevail.
Also, ask any Vols fan how they feel Kiffin did with this recruiting class. If they have a brain in their heads that's all they care about so far, in terms of grading Kiffin. He hasn't even coached a single full practice yet, much less a single game.
If anybody is making judgements about the guy based on a couple of these silly comments, before the season has even started, well, wow. Maybe some SEC types are as stupid as most people think they are.
Dude didn't get hired for his ability with a mic. He got hired to rebuild the football program and that begins and ends with recruiting.
Give him time. He'll simmer down and learn to watch what he says. All that matters though is how well does he recruit and then how much does he win?
No way of knowing just yet how he'll do there, since he hasn't coached a single game there. He sure made a bit of a recruiting splash though and that's all that matters so far...

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
No, it isn't. The people who matter at Tennessee are far more interested in his results than in silly comments he made during the first few days on the job.
The SEC isn't any different than anywhere else. Win, and you're fine. Be a Spurrier, for all we care. Lose, and you're out. We don't care if you're as nice and classy as Tommy Tuberville. If we see you losing the state, with no end in sight, you're gone. You could be Santa Claus, for all we care...

'Spray, if he gets 10 wins this season giant orange penis statues affectionately dubbed "Kiffins" will sprout up all over Knoxville. While adoring throngs applaud and sing "Rocky Top" fathers in Snap-On hats everywhere will gleefully impale their own cheerleader daughters willy nilly down the shafts of the "Kiffins"...
"Lane" will suddenly overtake "Ernie" and "Peyton" as the #1 and #2 names given to newborns in Tennesseee...
Kiffin's wife will be forced into politics, just so Tennessee will have an even hotter governor than Alaska...
Properly placed verbs and adjectives will suddenly become all the rage in English classes and state senate hearings...
Jack Daniels will be replaced by Vita-Water as the official drink of the Tennessee State Fair...
Incest will go right back into the closet...

Re: Kiffin's 0-3
tennessee's expectations for kiffin, according to shutyomouth, remind me of michigan's relationship with dickrod: bcs next year or else! ja, whatevs. the guy had to start a div 2 scout qb against ohio state as well as overhaul the personnel. tennessee's been the same joke as michigan has been for the last five or so years. it's going to take some time, eh.
