$17.6 mil since opening Thursday
(Andy Assmunch included) :P
3. "The Ring 2" (last week's #1)- $13.8 mil (10 day total, $58 mil)
"Robots" and "The Pacifier" round out the Top 5.

The top 12 movies took in $90.1 mil, off 7% from Easter weekend last year, when "The Passion Of The Christ" was #1.

TOP BOX OFFICE (April 3, '05)
1. "Sin City", $28.1 million
2. "Beauty Shop", $13.5 mil
("a spinoff of the 'Barbershop' franchise)- I guess now, any movie
that spawns at least one sequel is considered a 'franchise'. :roll:
3. "Guess Who", $13 mil (Last weelend's #1, 10-day total, $41.3 mil)
4. "Robots", $10 mil
5. "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed And Fabulous", $8.4 mil.

Overall, movie revenues slipped for the sixth straight weekend.
The top 12 movies took in $89.3 million, down 14 percent from the same
weekend
last year, when "Hellboy" and "Walking Tall" opened on top of the box office.

At least this week, there's one I'd want to see!

APR 10 UPDATE:

1. "Sahara" (new release) $18.5 million.
2. "Sin City", $14.1 million (10-day total, $50.7 mil).
3. "Fever Pitch" opened with a so-so $13 million.
It'll be better as a rental later this year, when it doesn't have to compete
against real baseball games. :P
4. "Guess Who", $7.1 mil (cumulative total, $51.1 mil).
Hmmm... in three weeks, it's made barely more than "Sin City" in its second week
of release. Maybe some of the "great unwashed masses" do have some taste after all. :P
5. "Beauty Shop", $7.1 mil (total to date $26.4 mil).

Hollywood's box-office slump continued as overall revenues remained down
for the seventh straight weekend. The top 12 movies took in $80.3 million,
off 18 percent from the same weekend last year.

Perhaps there's a reason for that, one of which is Opening Week of baseball
season, nice weather across much of the country...
or maybe, most of the movies out there just plain stink.

to top the weekend for Hollywood.
The Ashton Kutcher romantic comedy "A Lot Like Love" had a so-so opening
of $7.7 million, coming in at No. 4.

MAY 1st UPDATE:

"The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy" thumbed its way to the top of the box office,
debuting at $21.7 million to beat out the explosive "XXX" brand.

Ice Cube's action tale "XXX: State Of The Union" opened a weak third with $13.7 million,
according to studio estimates Sunday.

"XXX" came in behind the previous weekend's top movie, "The Interpreter",
starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, which slipped to No. 2 with $14.2 million,
lifting its 10-day total to $43.6 million.

Hollywood's pre-summer slump continued, with overall revenues down
for the 10th straight weekend. The top 12 movies grossed $84.8 million,
off 10 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Mean Girls" and "Man On Fire"
ruled the box office.

The epic battle tale "Kingdom Of Heaven" fought its way to the top
of the box office, taking in $20 million in its debut week, but the film did little
to boost slumping revenues at the start of the summer movie season.

Hollywood's box office slump continued with revenues down for the 11th straight
weekend compared with the same weekend last year, said Paul Dergarabedian,
president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

The top 12 movies grossed $76.9 million, down 24 percent from last weekend
at this time when "Van Helsing" and "Mean Girls" were the top movies.

Try saying the name "Dergarabedian" five times real fast!

Hopes for ending the slump may end on May 19, when the new "Star Wars" movie opens.

MAY 15 UPDATE:

Moviegoers rewarded Jane Fonda's return to the big screen by making
"Monster-In-Law" the weekend's top movie, though the comedy was short of a monster hit.

Hollywood's box office slump continued for a 12th straight week, but the Force
is expected to return next week when the final chapter in the Star Wars saga-
"Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge Of The Sith"- hits theatres.

"Monster-In-Law", which pits Jennifer Lopez against Fonda as her villianous
prospective mother-in-law, took in $24 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The total box office take was down 6.7 percent from the same weekend last year,
when "Troy" debuted with $46.8 million, but it was up 21.7 percent from last weekend.

1. "Monster-In-Law", $24 million.
2. "Kicking And Screaming", $20.8 mil.
3. "Unleashed", starring Jet Li, $10.6 mil.

Didn't get to Star Wars this weekend, but plenty other folks did.

Despite a record opening for "Revenge Of The Sith", Hollywood's box office slump continued for a 13th straight week.

Revenues were up 67 percent from the previous week, but still off 3.5%
from the same weekend last year.

Overall receipts were down for a 14th straight week compared with the same weekend

when "Shrek 2" and "The Day After Tomorrow" combined for $181 million
in grosses between them.

Offscreen couple or not, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had enough on-screen chemistry
to lift "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" to a $51 million opening weekend.

The other new releases, "The Honeymooners", "The Adventures of Sharkboy
and Lavagirl In 3-D", and "High Tension" opened weakly, contributing to Hollywood's
16th straight weekend of declining revenues compared to last year,
according to studio estimates Sunday.

The previous weekend's top movie, "Madagascar", slipped to second place
with $17.1 million, raising its total domestic gross to $128.4 million.

"Batman Begins" had a good beginning, debuting as the #1 movie with $48.7 million
over its opening weekend.
Still, the cash registers rang up about 1 percent less business than the same weekend last year,
extending Hollywood's streak to 17 consecutive down weekends.

Overall, the top 12 movies grossed $129.6 million, compared to last years' $130.5 million,
when "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" was top dog.

TOP 5:

since opening last Wednesday)

"Batman Begins" held the top spot for the second straight weekend,
but it could not help Hollywood from sinking to its longest modern box-office slump, now at 18 weeks.
The slump continued despite three major new titles, "Bewitched",
a "Love Bug" update, and "Land Of The Dead".

Guess the dirty ol' men didn't line up in enough numbers for Lindsay Lohan
in the "Herbie" movie! :twisted:

Tom Cruise may have bagged Katie Holmes, and have the #1 movie,
but it wasn't enough to stop Hollywood's box office slump, now at 19 weeks.
The alien-invasion movie took in $77.6 million over the holiday weekend,
making it the second-best opening over the Fourth of July weekend
behind $115.8 million for "Spider-Man 2".

The weekend's other wide release, the Martin Lawrence comedy "Rebound",
fouled out with just $6 million from Friday to Monday, coming in at No. 7.

1. "War Of The Worlds", $77.6 million (Cumulative Gross $113.2 million since opening last Wednesday).
