Sure. USC can. Since they have to play ND and all.
This is definitely one hell of a schedule. Look at the bright side, with so many good matchups, you may get to watch more games on TV.

I thought you guys didn't like playing Miami that early in the season.

Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
We also don't like playing D1AA teams or Thursday night on the road but it seems our AD is a god damn piece of shit.
Considering the ACC put 10 teams into bowls last year, it isn't surprising that we have 11 bowl teams on tap.

Ryan will definitely help out the gamecocks get into the D1AA playoffs. Doubt they will win a game in the dance but they will make it.

Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
Maybe not more Bowl Teams from last year but USC may be able to list more Bowl Winners from last year on their schedule this year with 6. probably not though
Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
More than half of all D1 teams go to bowl games each year. If you don't go to a bowl game you are truly horrible. If you do go to a bowl game you may still be awful.

Yes, it does. If more than half of USC's 2009 opponents again end up missing out on bowl games then USC's schedule will end up being truly horrible.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:More than half of the team's on USC's 2009 schedule didn't go to a bowl game last year. How could one argue otherwise?
The only way would be if those teams on their schedule who do go to bowl games are all absolute monsters. Even then, still, if more than half your opponents don't go to a bowl game that season you had yourself a pretty fuggen easy schedule.
I think that's a given. I'm just saying that it's not a given that you have a tough schedule just because most of your opponents from the previous season managed to at least finish 6-6...

You're Van, I figured you'd find a way. I was predicting you'd go to the "well, Pac 10 teams schedule so tough OOC that they lose more games, therefore decreasing their chances of becoming bowl eligible" ... or something along those lines.Van wrote:Yes, it does. Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
Okay, Mgo, since I'd hate to disappoint how's this...
More than half of USC's twelve regular season opponents for 2009 did NOT fail to go to bowl games in 2008 anyway!
Thhhpppppttttttthhh!!!
Ohio St
ND
Cal
Oregon
Oregon St
Arizona
By my math that makes six of their twelve opponents. By my math six is NOT less than half of twelve.
Additionally, the ONLY bowl team USC will face during the regular season in 2009 who lost their bowl game happens to be a team that hails from your neck of the woods, the Big 10. Otherwise USC's opponents went 5-1 in their bowl games.
For the record...

Oh shit, I forgot ND actually went to a bowl

Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
Actually, by the Pac 10 schools all playing 9 conference games they have added 5 losses to the conferences collective. Add 1 additional loss to every other team in the other conferences while removing an OOC game vs a patsie and see how many remain Bowl eligible.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:You're Van, I figured you'd find a way. Just need to restock on D and at WR.
Hopefully our QB play will be better with the O-Line all coming back and Thomas in the backfield.
FSU should be favored in every game except for that last one in the mullet and jean short capital of the world.

That is a hell of a sched, at least you'll be on tv a lot. Doing the in-state trifecta in Florida, USF, and Miami is pretty cool. Is this going to become a regular deal?

No shit? Will this be the first Big XII conference game played on a Thursday night? I really don't like that from a conference perspective. Being that I live in Indiana now, selfishly, I would not mind so I could at least watch A&M in high def on the big screen vs. trying to find some shitty grainy link online or at worse a streaming audio play by play. You don't know how many games I have "watched" using Gamecast or refreshing scores on my blackberry.Danimal wrote:We added a Thursday roadie as-well, Mizzou. I don't like the fact that we play a Division 1 AA team either (and we're probably going to be stuck with 2 of them this season since FIU just screwed us over at the last minute).Mr T wrote:We also don't like playing D1AA teams
I'd rather drop the 1 AA and play you guys each year. It would be beneficial to both programs.

Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
The FSU/USF match up is going to be a home and home series I believe. Nothing reoccuring match up at this point to my knowledge...although I hope so too, I much prefer to watch the in state games. Regardless, I don't think I have ever seen a team with 11 bowl teams on their schedule...was curious if anyone else could make that claim...Danimal wrote:That is a hell of a sched, at least you'll be on tv a lot. T, I think Thomas and Jones are going to be the tandem that we have all been hoping for over the years and if our WR's can stay on the team....I think we will see Easterling and Reed emerge as go to guys. Also, I think that Willie Downs could make an immediate impact at Safety...we need that, and it seems that Greg Reid is going to be returning punts and kick off's....
Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
^^^ Playing Miami the first game of the season is stupid and I hope that this is the last time that we have to endure it. I am feeling a little easier this year though...we should really beat them pretty handily. They know it, we know it, but it has to be shown on the field.Mr T wrote:We also don't like playing D1AA teams or Thursday night on the road but it seems our AD is a god damn piece of shit.
Considering the ACC put 10 teams into bowls last year, it isn't surprising that we have 11 bowl teams on tap.
Also, this poses a nice opportunity for FSU opening the regular season. Although it is a fucking joke, schools like ND are probably going to be ranked ahead of FSU to start the season... a proper beatdown of Miami should be able to jump FSU past those who are not worthy and squeeze us into the top 15.

I would have to think that somewhere along the line, there are enough options available that you could get most of the games. Maybe not all, but certainly most.IndyFrisco wrote:Being that I live in Indiana now, selfishly, I would not mind so I could at least watch A&M in high def on the big screen vs. trying to find some shitty grainy link online or at worse a streaming audio play by play. Off the top of my head, there's satellite dish, and I believe some of the cable providers offer subscription packages for various sports programming. You'll have to pay a little more, of course, but it'll probably be worth it to you.
And if all else fails, you can always try the sports bar thing. I don't know if there's a A&M alumni club in your neck of the woods, but if there is they might even have a game watch organized somewhere.

I've seen plenty of A&M games on Thursday nights but just don't remember seeing a conference game. And I'm not talking about the t.u. game which is different. I didn't mention that in my initial post, but I meant the featured "ESPN Thursday Night Matchup."Believe the Heupel wrote:Dude.

Not sure if any Big 12 games have done it, but I know that Nebraska played OSU on a Thursday a couple of times. Can't remember if those were Big 8 or Big 12 games though.
OSU moved their home game against CU to Thursday, for this season. while not a conference game, CU played WVU in Boulder on Thursday last season and the return game in Morgantown is also a Thursday game.
i get the impression that Hawkins and the CU AD really likes the Thursday game (they were sky high after the WVU game), and use it aggressively to "brand" Ralphie, CU football and CU the school, the mountains etc. with the captive national audience....and reaching out to a fairly disparate, national alumni base (for a state school--CU lives off the out of state tuition).

I just think it is odd because there is a slight disadvantage due to travel. When you are talking a conference game, I don't see why anyone would agree to travel on a Thursday for those matchups. Not in a big conference like the SEC, PAC, 10 or XII.

Make up your mind woman.
PS. I think the Big East and ACC have to travel greater distances than the three you mentioned. USF-Rutgers, FSU-BC, Miami-VT, ect.

Re: Next years schedule - 11 bowl teams
USC and UCLA to Washington St and Seattle are right there in distance with anything in the ACC or Big East. It's just a few hundred miles less and that's four teams in conference, not just two.
Then again I think it's safe to say that the WAC has the distance traveled battle well and truly won. Nobody can touch La Tech to Hawaii.
