Re: With the first pick.....2009 draft thread
As usual, You Can't is loaded with inaccurate information. What do you expect from an untrustworthy bet welcher? I don't much care what he thinks or what his internet draft board thinks. I did not post a local media hack analysis. As usual he's full of himself which consists of about 90% poo and 10% rock.

Re: With the first pick.....2009 draft thread
All this talk with the new regime about needing to build from the inside out, and after 5 picks, they don't draft a SINGLE lineman. Not a one. That's the Detroit Fucking Lions for you, baby. Fucking priceless!Shoalzie wrote:The actual pick of Stafford was bad enough but on top of that...the contract. Stafford won't start immediately...it appears to be Culpepper's team for the time being. They didn't address the offensive line in Day 1 but they have two 3rd round picks tomorrow and they need to look at bolstering the defense...I touched on the defensive tackle spot and at middle linebacker. They passed on Maualuga twice...that was the best natural middle linebacker available in the draft. Peria Jerry was there at #20...he would've looked good on the inside with the veteran Jackson.
Re: With the first pick.....2009 draft thread
I the Chiefs would have grabbed Monroe - I think having bookend OT for the next decade would have been the better play than a run stuffing DE. Pioli said they couldn't find anybody to trade down with at 3, but in the next breath said they didn't make any calls either. Shit The fucking Jets, Broncos and Redskins should have all been on his speed dial instead of waiting for thr phone to ring. I'm guessing Glen Dorsey is available for some shoulder pads and a case of Gatorade since the Chiefs just took another DE in Rd. 3
The Raiders are just getting ripped on NFL Network and ESPN - maybe DHB isn't the next Troy Williamson
- Maybe Michael Mitchell & Matt Shaughnessy will be uhh.... Special team studs
The Doinks now have 6 RBs - and still no defense (although I like the Ayers pick)
Omar Moreno
Correl Buckhalter
Peyton Hillis (actually a FB)
LaMont Jordan
Ryan Torian
Selvin Young
The Dolts also made a reach on English, Surprised they didn't move down as he was projected as a 2nd rounder.
Here's the take on their 2nd pick: Louis Vasquez (video) OL 6'6 335 Texas Tech
Analysis: Vasquez is a massive interior lineman who struggles in space and lacks the kind of fluidity to re-direct quickly. With guards like Duke Robinson and Herman Johnson still on the board, this is a bit of a head-scratcher.

just read a rumor that the Chiefs offered the 3 pick for the # 20 and # 33 - where the could have grabbed Monroe as protection for Stafford - don't know if it's accurate but would have made sense for the Lions

I'm surprised Chase Coffman is still available. Must be some concerns that he's injury prone.

Hair Product, you're a (barely) metrosexual styling gel queen who's an unusually retarded fan of the worst franchise in pro sports.
You're into comic book action figures, "tailgating."
You're unaware of something called "disciplined routes," and you've never heard of "reading defenses."
You think Marvin Harrision and Steve Smith are about burning speed, the same as you think Jerry Rice and Steve Largent were...because the fumes from all your styling products and the blood loss from your multiple cock rings have rendered you utterly stupid.
You're an embarrassment to poptart.
Your vain, ignorant ass is going to tell me about football?
Keep drafting "speed," instead of football players, moron. Keep enjoying the single worst stretch of sustained failure in the history of the NFL.

Re: With the first pick.....2009 draft thread
LOL - sound familiar?
The three biggest head-scratchers of the first round
By MJD
#7, Oakland Raiders: Darrius Heyward-Bey
Obviously, this is the biggest head scratcher. Eighty-five percent of all draft analysts are actually bleeding from the scalp this evening because of this one.
Most teams compile a scouting report on a guy, and it's pretty long. Maybe a few pages of information. The Raiders, though, I don't think bother with anything that detailed. I think their scouting reports read, "Really Fast," "Kinda Fast," "Fast," "Not Fast," "Slow," or "Really Slow." I really think that's all they bother with.
And say whatever else you want about Heyward-Bey, but he did get the coveted "Really Fast" rating. He's big, too, and obviously, big and fast is a good combination. But there are questions about his hands and his route-running.
It's really not even about Heyward-Bey being a bad player. Maybe he ends up being the best player in the draft, I don't know. But even if that ends up being true, the issue is that the Raiders could've traded down and gotten the same player at #20, or later. The Raiders completely ignored the possibility of picking up extra draft picks. That's the crime here.
#12, Denver Broncos: Knowshon Moreno
The Broncos gave up five yards per carry last year. That was very close to being dead last in the league against the run.
So they've got to fix that. How do you do that? One of two ways: One, draft a front-seven defensive player who can stuff the run. Two, and this is the route that the Broncos chose, is to draft Knowshon Moreno, who is a good running back, so that good running back can't play for anyone else and carve up their defense.
Granted, that reasoning's a little more convoluted, but Josh McDaniels thinks outside the box. He's taken a very strange approach to the quarterback position, too.
#16, San Diego Chargers: Larry English
The Chargers had definite, clear needs. Inside linebacker, safety, offensive tackle, and running back. At outside linebacker, you've got Shawne Merriman coming back and Shaun Phillips on the other side. The Chargers were in a position to fill a real hole, and they took a guy who might or might not be able to find a place on the field next year.

Well, at least it wasnt one of your long winded diatribes that amounts to absolutely nothing......so we've got that going for us.
You're a special brand of extra strength dumbfuck, Van. Nowhere did I claim that you dont need to run 'disciplined routes' and can be successful strictly on speed alone. Yet here you are, thumping your concaved chest as if you have brought something new and innovative to this forum in the form of football. You didnt. You are a fucking fail in many areas, but this one stands alone in your latest pinch off before hitting submit:
Not a Buccaneer fan, nor a Bengal fan (look up the 90's, fuckwit), nor a fan of over half the teams in the league that have still never hoisted that trophy once. A bad stretch? Yes. The worst in history? Not even close.
I sense something more to Vans menstruating-could it be the 3peat that was had at this Sacremento Queens expense by the best franchise in the L? Fuck your old hick ass, bitch. My smile is limitless knowing that the Lakers killed your will to be a Queen fan and post about your team in the NBA forum. No trophy for you this year......or ever.

Hair Product, since the Raiders' last Super Bowl appearance, check out their record ever since.
They set an NFL record. Not a good one. Look it up.
Not the Bengals. Not the Bucs. Not the Cardinals.
The Raiduhs. Worst sustained stretch of failure (eleven loss seasons) in NFL history. The Raiduhs.
Btw, Mel Kiper just called the Raiders' draft the biggest reach this year. He said Bey was the biggest reach in the 1st round, taking a 30-ish pick at #7, but then he added that their second round pick might've been the biggest reach in the entire draft, taking what he called a "undrafted free agent prospect" in the 2nd round.
You've still got all that money locked up in JaMarcus. You're still trying to start utter failure Robert Gallery. You still can look back at the amazing signings of, well, all your 2008 free agent signings, which were the worst signings in the history of the NFL.
Now you've committed huge money to Bey, and to a free agent prospect.
Enjoy your faggot tailgating costume parties. Enjoy your record setting failure.

Hair Product, what is it with you and your penchant for getting assfucked by facts?
The Raiduhs are currently in the midst of a record setting bit of sustained futility, and this draft combined with last year's will only keep that streak alive...especially with that epic coaching staff there.
Until Al gives up the team, you're a laughing stock. Period. Nobody cares about the three rings, not these days. The last one was over a quarter century ago.
Oh, and the Raiders have appeared in a Super Bowl in every decade?
Really? You wanna think that one through again, and see if you still wish to stand by it? Just gonna keep throwing shit out there, hoping nobody will know how full of shit you are?

Re: With the first pick.....2009 draft thread
It's not that the 'Duhs reached for Bey, it's that they reached so far for him. Taking a high 1st rounder/low second rounder at #7, when you've got as many pressing needs as the 'Duhs have, that's almost unprecedented. Passing on Crabtree and Maclin to do it, that's just icing on the cake.
I don't know if this is apocryphal, but it was reported on ESPN today that the Raiders picked Bey over Crabtree simply because Al arrived at the draft minus any 40 times on Crabtree. He had a 40 time on Bey.
That was it. That was it.
Does Al lack access to film, or a phone, or a fax??

Re: With the first pick.....2009 draft thread
I'm with mv on this one. Even though Oakland (possibly) could've gotten Heyward-Bey in the 2nd round, at least they aggressively went after a position they really, REALLY needed to fill. Not so much the case with Denver. Plus, why is there any guarantee Maclin and Crabtree will be better receivers? They were good, no doubt, but Mizzou and T Tech were two of the pass happiest offenses in college football; offenses, btw, they'll never have the luxury of playing in in the NFL. My dead grandmother could rack up yardage in those systems. They can probably coach-up Heyward-Bey, but they can't coach 4.3 speed.
How long have you been following the NFL? The difference between a 4.3 and 4.45 is considered HUGE, especially when comparing two players at the same position. And Maclins' 40 time was an abysmal 4.45 compared to Beys' 4.30

All I know is the 40 yard dash isn't something only scrutinized and held in high regard by the media. It is bar none the most important and weighted stat scouts, coaches, and gms look at.

No, I'm justifying why I thought their pick wasn't as bad as Denver's. As for Hayward-Bay, I probably would've taken Crabtree or Maclin over him, but I don't think it's necessarily any guarantee those guys will be better...as I previously stated.War Wagon wrote:So, you're somehow attempting to defend the Raiders taking Bey with the 7th pick based on a 40 time?

All you know?MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote: All I know is the 40 yard dash isn't something only scrutinized and held in high regard by the media. It is bar none the most important and weighted stat scouts, coaches, and gms look at.
Yes, I'm starting to get that.

Great stuff, Wags.

Plus, Denver has shown time and again that RBs are a dime a dozen, especially there.mvscal wrote:Understood, but the point is they need a receiver. Dungver needs just about everything except another running back.
Maybe that won't continue to be the case, now that The Rat is gone, but when he was there Denver certainly didn't need to blow high picks on RBs in order to recieve great production from their backs.
So, yeah, in that sense, you're right.
Question, though. Do you really think the 'Duhs' main need was WR? I don't. Like it has been for a long time now, I think it's O line. They have to be able to protect JaDumbass before he's going to be able to find a WR. Oakland wants to run, and to throw deep. That's Al's Pinciple For Duh Football.
Running and throwing deep is all about a dominant O line, which is what he had back in the 70's. He's still living there, obviously, but he seems to've forgotten what made it possible back then. His best QBs (Stabler, Plunkett and Gannon) never had big arms. His best RBs (Clarence Davis, Mark van Eeghen and Marcus Allen) were never speed burners.
Cliff Branch and James Lofton were speed burners, but Biletnikoff, Tim Brown, Todd Christenson and Dave Caspar sure weren't.
Oakland's success was built on Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jim Otto, Dave Dolby and Henry Lawrence. It was built from the inside out. Al seems to've forgotten this, along with his teeth.
Oakland should've taken Eugene Monroe or Michael Oher, before Bey. They should've taken Brian Orakpo or B.J. Raji, before Bey. They definitely should've taken Crabtree or Maclin, before Bey, even among WRs.
They're the Titanic. Their structure is ruptured. By taking Bey all they did was add another deck chair.

After reading your previous post, I took a shit. Are you saying your takes are filled with 20 lbs of fiber?
Does the term Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc mean anything to you?
