So, they have to forfeit wins from seasons when they sucked anyway. There's nothing here that'll affect the current program, except for a piddling $44K fine, which Nick could scare up from loose change in his Mercedes.

Oooooh, veddy skeddy!

Textbooks! Grrrr!! We'll gitcha! How's about some toofless probation, with no loss of scholarships, no loss of tv revenue and no bowl game ban!

You go, NCAA! Eye of the tiger, baby!

(Speaking of tigers, hey, Auburn! What's up with this weak shit? You're gonna need to do a whole lot better than some lame textbook scandal, if you really wanna bring down The House Of Nick.)

'Spray, what's the "Reggie Bush/'roid thing"? What, is someone now trying to hit Reggie with a 'roids accusation, four years after he's gone??

So if 'Bama has to vacate wins for this over three seasons and pay a fine, what will happen to SC if the Bush rumors are true?

Do they vacate the wins from Oct '04 on and all of '05? If 'Bama doesn't have anything happen to the current program I can't see anything else happening to SC.

The basketball program is another issue, but we know that SoCal would like to see the program shut down and the new BB arena closed and all funds diverted to the football program. I guess the NCAA could add a Univ wide probation for issues going on in both programs around the same time, but I doubt it.

Ahahahahahahaha! Seriously? Yeah, I know they're true. You think someone just decided to make this shit up?? Yeah, the NCAA doesn't know..........ahahahahahahahahahaha! USC is a fucking cash cow right now.

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret here.........the NCAA doesn't punish schools like USC. Your hoops program might take it up the ass, but not the football program.

Oh, that's right Van........this thread is about Alabama getting busted. Uh hu, well a couple of things. Alabama isn't getting busted. Oh noz, oh noz, they had to forfeit a bunch of games in a 3 year stretch they didn't do shit. Whoopee. That's not a punishment. And those were self imposed. The NCAA probably told Alabama to shut the fuck up and not make a peep about this but they insisted on acting like they're going to crack down on this sort of stuff even though EVERYONE knows Nick Saban makes Petey out their in LA look like a fucking Saint.

The NCAA won't touch USC. I've been saying this for 2 years ever since the Bush story came out. I'm sick and fucking tired of hearing discussions from writers and fans about how the NCAA is going to get them. No they're not. Talking about this is an utter waste of time. If the NCAA were to step in and actually punish USC for this, they'd pretty much be forced to give them the death penalty and they do not want to do that. They can't just take away a couple of scholarships and call it a day. This is something that would be worthy of not only Bush having his Heisman stripped, but also USC having to forfeit multiple national titles, have scholarships reduced, AND them being ineligible for postseason for at least a couple of years (if not longer). If the NCAA didn't come down that hard on USC after admitting what they know about the Bush incident, they would take an absolute fucking beating from the media. Just like Ohio State with the Maurice Clarett incidents. The NCAA did what they're doing with USC- pretending to actually investigate. Then, they'll come out and tell everyone they found nothing, when they most likely actually found something worthy of the program death penalty. This is what the NCAA does. The only people that don't believe what I'm saying amongst both of the following- dumb and fans of teams like USC that want to believe their beloved coach/program aren't crooked.

College athletics is a god damn cesspool and you're very naive if you believe otherwise.

Vannie, your problem is you aren't Cal smart and it bites you in the ass every time.

J. Brent Clark, a one-time NCAA investigator who practices law in Oklahoma, agreed, but said he was not surprised that the USC inquiry has taken so long.

"The NCAA is under no real sense of urgency to wrap this up, even though justice delayed is justice denied," Clark said. "The NCAA is a de-facto cartel, and its product is big-time college football. USC is a major component of that. The NCAA doesn't want USC to be off television or ineligible for bowls."

Report: Bush, family got over $100K

http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/vi ... ?p=1144988

Speculation over whether Bush and his family received money arose earlier this year in reports that his mother and stepfather didn't pay $54,000 in rent during the year they lived in a house owned by Michaels, who later said the family promised to repay him once Bush went pro.

The NCAA prohibits student-athletes and their families from receiving extra benefits from agents or their representatives. Any improper benefits could lead to NCAA sanctions against USC and retroactively cost Bush his college eligibility and Heisman Trophy.

The report was based on an eight-month investigation by Yahoo Sports, citing documents and interviews with on-the-record sources close to the situation. It lists several instances in which Bush and his family appear to have received financial benefits, including:
-- Suits for Bush's stepfather and brother to wear during the Dec. 10, 2005 Heisman ceremony in New York, a makeover for his mother for the event and limousine transportation -- all paid for by Ornstein.

-- Two hotel stays by Bush, one in Las Vegas and another in San Diego, during March 2005. In both instances, the rooms were paid for by Michaels.

-- $13,000 from Michaels' fledgling firm, New Era Sports & Entertainment, to purchase and modify a car for Bush.
- $595.20 in round-trip airfare from San Diego to Oakland in November 2005 for Bush's stepfather, LaMar Griffin, his mother, Denise Griffin and younger brother to attend the USC-California game at Berkeley. The charges were put on a credit card belonging to Jamie Fritz, one of Ornstein's employees.

Ornstein said he believes that when Fritz paid for airfare and a limousine for the Bush family's trip to the Cal game, the money was eventually paid back. Asked whether he was aware that such loans could constitute an NCAA violation, Ornstein told Yahoo: "I have no idea."

The thing I fail to understand is how you and so many like you are able to revel in "victories" from a game in which your team is cheating. It's a game. And they're cheating.

If I beat you in checkers, but stole a few of your pieces when you weren't looking, should I celebrate ?

If I make you look foolish on an internet message board, should I gloat and feel like a big man ?

Do you see what I'm getting at ?

Do you understand how pathetic is it to derive self-worth from $C's "victories"? Personally, I am not impressed. As more and more people see your school for what it is, they are not impressed either.

Once your program goes by way of Washington State you'll be forced to reconcile with what remains in your empty shell and find a new hobby in life.

Bump it when you've got something new. Your re-hashing of the same unsubstantiated Yahoo sports story we've all seen a million times before is not worth commenting on.

If the NCAA punishes USC over the Reggie thing, that'll be news. Your C&P there isn't news.

If the NCAA does nothing, which, more and more, is certainly looking like a strong possibility, then this was all much ado about nothing.

In the end, no matter how it turns out, USC didn't win any more football games simply due to the parental living arrangements of one of its star players. When Reggie was running down the field nobody in their right mind could say, "Yep, if his parents weren't living in this house instead of that other house USC wouldn't be up thirty one right now."

Call me when USC football is found to have been cheating on the field, or in the classroom, or in the recruiting process. That was the point you were trying to make with your checkers analogy, that watching a USC game is like rooting for a bunch of cheaters.

Nonsense. One guy's parents' housing situation does not make for a team full of cheaters.

In a previous post you mentioned how you were in "favor" of paying college football players (how $C of you).

This is my view which you just passed over like a college course in which Reggie Bush never attended....

Explain to me how anything to do with Reggie's parents contributed to a single USC win, per your checkers analogy. You have one player who's alleged to have received improper benefits (for his parents, nonetheless), and this player was already starring for USC, so it's not as if this is even a recruiting violation. The agent was trying to get Reggie to leave early. He wasn't trying to entice him to come to USC, or even to stay at USC.

Reggie was already starring for USC, and that's why the agent went after him. Allegedly.

How did this benefit the USC football program? How did it create a team of cheaters, which is what you're accusing USC of being. Even if it were true, which still hasn't been proven, five years later, it would still only mean that one guy did something. One guy does not mean the whole team cheats.

Van,

Some of you questions are flawed.
Call me when USC football is found to have been cheating on the field, or in the classroom, or in the recruiting process.
Explain to me how anything to do with Reggie's parents contributed to a single USC win,

Regardless of how you individually feel about some of the rules, they are still rules. Those of us who are sane here understand that in the end these potential violations didn't win any extra games for SC, but then again, did the payments to the OU QB from Big Red Motors win any extra games?

Don't forget also that both the agent and Bush's family have admitted that the agent paid for hotel and airplane tickets for both the family and for Bush himself, but that they were repaid in full. Both claim to not have known that loans are in violation of NCAA rules.

Anyone else looking forward to a no holds barred Jon v .m2blue match?

Lefty, m2's point was that watching USC or rooting for USC ought to be a difficult thing to do, because you know you're watching a team of cheaters. He made the analogy that it's like winning in checkers, knowing you cheated to win.

That's what I'm refuting. Even if every single allegation against Reggie is eventually proven to be true, it would in no way mean the USC football team is a bunch of cheaters. Nobody on that team, Reggie included, is accused of cheating in any way which could affect the outcome of any game. Beyond that, Reggie is only one guy. One guy does not make for a dirty program, and USC isn't even being accused of anything that could affect their on-field performance.

If USC were being accused of recruiting violations, or academic fraud, or of having their boosters keeping players afloat financially, that'd be one thing. Those things affect the football team, and the quality of play on the field. Cheating to acquire a player, or to keep him eligible, or to keep him financially able to continue playing for the team, those are things which might make a person view the game differently.

"That guy shouldn't even be playing. He didn't even go to class. That other guy, they had to cheat and pay him, just to get him. These guys are cheaters."

m2 even pulls out the death penalty card, and he's hardly the first person here to do so. The fucking death penalty, because of the Reggie Bush incident!! USC didn't even benefit from any of it, and they didn't take part in any of it, nor did their boosters, not even tangentially, and USC should receive the death penalty because of it?

These are the things I'm refuting. These were m2's ridiculous claims.

The Crimson Tide must vacate 21 wins over the last three seasons. Although Alabama doesn't lose scholarships or bowl eligbility (that's what is supposed to be a punishment), Alabama officials were dismayed at the severity of the punishment.
"Alabama officials expressed disappointment with the severity penalties, noting that no coach or staff member was involved and none of the players gained financially."
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4255376

The NCAA has a clear double standard and does not appear to have the integrity to really go after its biggest breadwinners.

I guess the NCAA's punishment for USC will be to require that the Media Guide will be reduced to 100 pages. "That will sure show them".

Oh, I dunno, Oklahoma and Florida St are mighty big, and they've been taken to task in recent years by the NCAA. Bama's also about as big as it gets in BTPCF.

Bama's complaining that they got hit too hard, and I agree, they did.

That being said, they didn't get hit hard at all. They didn't lose anything that matters.
