Defensive End
Detroit (MI) Southeastern
Ht: 6-foot-7
Wt: 235 lbs
Class: 2010 (High School)
HUGE get for MSU. He was recruited by most major programs and was considered a heavy OSU lean, as one of the top DEs in the country for the 2010 class. I know a lot of UM fans expected him to be at AA, as well. I pretty much wrote him off, considering the other programs in contention, so this was a nice surprise to start my day.
he's vernon's cousin. most michigan fans expected him to go to state the whole time but were acting all dumb and dumber when he attended a couple of our recruiting events. he plays for an msu feeder program and lives with a pro-msu coach. i think his mom also went to state. he was definitely a top priority, but the writing was on the wall.
he'll log on to the internet and end up at Cal. wait and see.

"*Gabe King is a 6'5" 260 lb defensive end on his team. He ran a 4.7 electronic 40 yard dash time and currently has a 3.2 GPA. Right now his top school is Cal, with Oregon, North Carolina, and Alabama all tied for second. "
What we really need is a pilot... and now a bus driver.
At last weekend's Pac-10 meetings in San Francisco, a handful of cost-cutting measures were discussed. Football teams may no longer stay in hotels the night before a home game, and media guides may become an online-only reference. Cal already has decided to take buses to its road game at UCLA this season rather than charter a flight.

Who knew we were so right on with the Cal travel department. 400 miles to LAX, mix in a little traffic on each end on a Friday and you are looking at a 7 hour ride. On the other hand, Texas flies to Dallas and Houston from Austin. Trips half as long as that one.
So instead of just complaining about the travel to the East Coast, Cal will now have another built in excuse. The bus ride was too long and traffic killed us.
Are those 50 hotel rooms 6 times a year really going to bankrupt a dept?
Way to go Cal and Pac 10.

m2, is that shit for real?? No more hotels, the night before a game? Where are they supposed to sleep then, on the team bus? Or are they just downgrading everybody to motels?
When they play Bratislava St I guess it'll be youth hostels.
Also, Cal can't be serious about that bus ride to L.A. thing. A bus ride, from Berkeley to Westwood? They have got to be fucking kidding. That's completely insane.
Besides the fact that it's, well, completely insane, do they have any idea how much buggery the Cal football team can commit on each other over the course of a raucous seven hour bus ride? By the time the bus hits the L.A. county line the Cal players would be so sore, dehydrated and blissed out that they may as well send your Asian cheerleaders out to be the first team defense.
Also, christ, what, are eighty oversized homos going to pile in all at once into the Carl's Jr in Kettleman City? These kids are gonna need a potty stop or three, plus some munchies. Most of the places along I-5 or 101, jeez, unless they work at the local prison those people have never seen that many ill tempered black men all together. Pile that many Cal football players all at once into an In-N-Out and it's liable to turn into an "animal style" orgy/riot.

Admittedly, I am not up to speed on the percentage of verbals who wind up de-committing. Go ahead and break down the numbers for me.
I still feel pretty good about this guy in green and white unless something happens that leads me to believe otherwise.
IIRC, Dantonio had like 24 of 25 verbals sign LOIs. Michigan had a problem with decommits last year, but that's not much of a suprise since Dickrod offers a bunch of southern kids early whose commitment is good only until the local SEC school shows some interest.
I think Gholston is yours to keep. In-state commits tend to be more legit, and from the thinking from the word go was he was yours to lose.
I believe he's only lost one committ since getting hired, which happened shortly after he took over from John L Slappy, and it was a total headcase who also decommitted from Ga Tech and ended up getting kicked off the Iowa football team.
Though I'm sure Screw will still try and have me believe that a 99.999999999% signing rate isn't worth a shit.
You make some good points on Gholston in respect to his MSU ties. Still, when you see some of the names that offered him -- Ohio St, USC, Florida, OU, LSU, etc., I thought it was a long shot.

Does Nichol count? He was committed, then reneged when John L left, then came back after not cracking the two-deep at OU. I believe he said he was still an MSU commit after Dantonio got hired.
Nichol would have beat out Halzle last year if something happened to Bradford. I'll give Joey H. credit for a gamer effort in Lubbock but he was a nice backup to have, not a starter.

Nichol's entire reason for wanting to come to MSU in the first place was John L and his pass happy offense. If you want to pin that one on Dantonio for the sake of technicality, fine. I'll amend my statement to say, of the guys he has actually recruited, only one verbal has gotten away...who wound up being a total bust and got kicked off his team. In the end though, Nichol is back on and playing for the team, so that's really splitting hairs.
Notice the word home in the article .m2blue posted. No hotel stays the night before home games.
Not a chance.

USC lost three big verbals this past season, in Vontaze Burfict, Morrell Presley and Randall Carroll. Of course, a couple of their late out of state signees weren't supposed to land at USC either.
I still don't believe Cal is seriously going to bus themselves all the way to L.A. Are they going to do this next year too, for the USC game? Way to make an hour and a half flight become a seven hour ordeal. Knowing Cal, they'll get a flat, then they'll make a wrong turn at Atascadero, and they'll up going over the cliff in Gualala.

Using the 400 mi. distance, it is appx. 485 from Tucson to Pasadena and about the same to South Central. It is also 480 from Eugene to Pullman and 460 from Corvallis to Pullman.
What is up with that?

This is a great pickup for MSU and Dantonio. I think most tOSU fans saw this coming but nonetheless, he would've been nice to have in Columbus.
