I thought they also has a contest (I think there was a thread on here in fact) to where they were going to select a new helmet, which was set to be in place in 2009. From recollection, all of the options that their fans could vote on were white helmets.

the contest happened and i, too, remember the all white choices. but, i lost track of the progress of that and when the Cyclones had the new helmet logo and look last season i assumed that's how it played out.

That must have been how it played out because I found an article on their website that the contest was in 2007 to have everything in place in for the 2008 season. I couldn't find anything as to why they didn't go with the white helmet though.

Oklahoma endured Indiana doing the same thing a few years back. at least the last few seasons IU has switched to red (not pearl) facemasks and wears a red pant sometimes. for a while, the only difference was instead of Sooners on the jersey it said Hoosiers. D-1 teams shouldn't steal a uni look from other D-1 teams. the steal an NFL look is a slightly less form of weak, but still weak.

Florida came out with those faggoty one-sleeve different unis a couple years ago. I think they got laughed into shelving them.

They also had those white helmets for their 100th anniversary, which were pretty cool looking.

We went with a white helmet for our bowl game, which looked real cool.

I like the uni's, just not the helmets because of that stupid I-State logo.

The I State logo looked good on the white helmet. Looks a bit out of place on the red ones.

I liked the red helmets better. The white ones didn't look good with the rest of the uniform. My only complaint is I wish they went with a more traditional gold.
