The only one I can think of was when someone tried to run the same play around Thanksgiving and the defense intercepted it and ran it back for a TD.

I remember that. LSU beat Spurrier at his own game. You could tell Spurrier was impressed by it.

That's a great one. That kicker prolly runs a 7.5 40. Spurrier has really become restrained in his old age.

Why don't they do that on every FG? That's the natural instinct.

Man, that's what kills me the most about that game. If Alex "thinks he's Mason Crosby" Henery hadn't nailed that 57-yarder, that would've gone down as one of the all-time classic blunders. We'd see that replay on a yearly basis...King Crimson wrote:yup. against CU, last year.Jsc810 wrote:I believe it was Nebraska that tried but gave up a TD in the process, maybe against Colorado?

according to the announcers in CUmike's first youtube if the holder's knee is touching the ground at the attempted exchange he's down as a ball-carrier? which is also the case in the LSU fake.
hmm?
hmm?

Watching games is better when the announcers know what the hell they are talking about.
The rules have an exception for the ball not becoming dead when in a FG formation. If there wasn't there would be no extra points or FGs ever.
Back to the topic at hand, the best Fake FG I can remember was in '92 (?) FSU at Michigan. FSU was successful and went on to run Michigan out of their own building.

Re: has there ever been a better fake FG than this?
i thought the point the announcers (whose credibility is always in doubt, yes) were making was that in order for the holder to attempt to "transmit" the ball it was at that point the "exception" was no longer good and the knee vis a vis the field as "down" became live. so, that in making the attempt you forfeit the exception or something. but, i've never heard that before.Left Seater wrote:Watching games is better when the announcers know what the hell they are talking about.

the best fake FG i can recall, is one A&M ran against OU (successfully) in 04 maybe in College Station. at least for a time, Francione gave OU/Stoops headaches with fakes and trick plays at Bama (01, especially) and that 04 game in Kyle.

Auburn's Damon Duval ran one for the first TD in Tuberville's first game against LSU and at Baton Rouge (99?). The game turned into an AU romp and Gerry Dinardo got run that year. Had you forgotten that one?

Couldn't find a youtube clip of it, but the fake FG attempt and then TD pass OU ran against Mizzou a few years ago was pretty sweet.

Oh great, an OU highlight reel. Gee thanks, froz.
Actually, for an OU film, it showed a remarkable amount of Mizzou making plays... and the soundtrack does not suck. Nice find.
Hard to believe that it's been almost 7 years ago now because I remember it like it was yesterday. There's still some scars in my drywall from that fake. Stoops had some huge balls making that call and it fucking worked. That was a great game.

i only heard that game on the radio. you can only imagine OU people what that was like with BB sr.
should have thrown it to the flat but last time MU made a "D" play to win a big game will be the next.

Re: has there ever been a better fake FG than this?
game was not on TV here. but, back then, i could pull KOMA after dark on a Panasonic so-called ghetto-blaster.....i don't remember much, just the W. i remember Merv saying we threw to the wrong guy but Chester made a great play to save the bacon. I've known Merv Johnson since i was in 6th grade, and when he says something is "wrong"....it's "wrong".Believe the Heupel wrote:Christ, KC. it was only a couple days ago, i saw that play for the first time.Believe the Heupel wrote:He was correct. The play was designed to be a throw to the holder. Worked, too-the holder was wiiiiide open on the play. Chester was double-covered but made a great grab. Watch the play on the clip.

Re: has there ever been a better fake FG than this?
the "problem" with Hybl was the coaches were too damn cautious and we couldn't block anyone. OL was young, true frosh Vince Carter at Nebraska was getting mauled the minute he snapped the ball. so, our staff decided that the all-world D OU had in 01 and 02 would win games and the O would play not to lose. the 3 yard swing pass on 3rd and 6 instead of throwing it down the field ring any bells?
then, we are down 2 TD's at O State right out the box...and it's too much. the 01 loss to them at home, no excuse for that.
