Not surprising that Finebaum is keeping the rumor going.

I think Meyer loves tweaking Weis and the ND administration. Right after Weis was retained, he goes on national radio and says that ND is still his dream job. Now he comes out and says this.
Either way, the timing will never be right for ND to persue Meyer, unless UF and ND both shit the bed this year.

I'm not quite sure why ND would want him if Florida shits the bed this year, but I suppose stranger things than that have happened.Killian wrote:I think Meyer loves tweaking Weis and the ND administration. I wanted Meyer back in '04, but he burned that bridge as far as I was concerned. Long since past time to move on.

Shitting the bed just means that UF didn't make the NC game this year. If they make the NC game, there is no way Meyer would talk or entertain the thought of leaving.

So, you mean that the coach at, oh I dunno, Mississippi State, wouldn't jump at the chance to coach at any of a number of non-SEC programs? Or did you just out one of your trolls?Jsc810 wrote:Right, like a coach would voluntarily leave the SEC.

I'm not sure one BCS bowl loss to Utah puts Bama in the "elite." Let's see what he can do from here.

Utah deserves more annual respect than they've been receiving.

I think people who follow the game closely know and respect Utah.
Bama could've lost to Utah or USC; either way, one BCS bowl appearance, and a resulting loss, doesn't place you back amongst the elite.

5 head coaching jobs in 15 years (not a HC from 91-94) . Never fired. For your sake, hope he gets you a glass football in the next 2-3 years because that's about as long as you'll have him. If it were me, I'd be fine with that. I'm sure you would too.Sudden Sam wrote:As long as Saban is there.

He left for greener pastures. Period. Always has. Always will. For the most part, people simply don't change. Dude is a helluva coach, just a helluva shitty human. He's a college coach. Utah has 2 BCS bowl wins in the last 5 years. i bet the list of other teams that can say the same is pretty small. USC, UF, Texas, LSU, ?

I think Bama will lose Saban before Saban loses Bama. Not because he's suddenly a man of committment, but because where else does he have to go? He already tried the NFL thing, and flamed out. Now he's at a final destination type gig at Bama, making boatloads of cayshe. Most any other job, at best, would be a lateral move, and Pete Carroll ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

It's about ego for all of these guys. Let's say he gets Bama a football and then Notre Dame come calling because Weis finally flames out. Or the Rich Rod experiement is a failure and Michigan comes calling. Saban would be interested and take those phone calls.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I think Bama will lose Saban before Saban loses Bama. Look at Nick'y recent track record. When he does bolt, it's always for a considerably bigger job. That's why he went from MSU to LSU to the NFL. I'm not sure Michigan or ND would qualify as such right now.

Don't fall into the money only trap. That's why I said they go as far as the dollar or ego takes them. If Saban wins a glass ball at Bama and Mack hangs it up at Texas, and then Texas comes a calling, I can see him bolting. Sure, t.u. has already "named the next HC" but so did Jerrah Jones in naming Jason Garrett as the next COwboys next HC (which ain't gonna happen). There's no loyalty...either way.Sudden Sam wrote:Thing is there won't be any college that can offer more than Bama will. all it would take would be a couple perceived under-achieving seasons and the D give up 40+ to OU in a 3-4 loss campaign and enough of the bloom is off Muschamp to re-open the public forum on who succeeds Mack. not saying it's going to happen, but it wouldn't take much. and UT can write checks with anybody.

Andy Ludwig beatdown of Nick Saban
Score one for the Utah turned Cal offensive coordinator:
This is excerpt from Nick Saban and Utah Coach taken from an event they both attended recently
Saban in his remarks said they should have beaten Utah by 2 touchdowns
Former Utah OC Andy Ludwig was in attendance for Saban's lecture. Ludwig, who is now the OC at Cal, presented Thursday morning and took a little offense to Saban's remarks. Ludwig opened the lecture by saying "I try to keep everything simple. You know, I sat here last night and listened to a man say how he had 30 different ways to run cover 2, and I'm just sitting there thinking to myself, 'geez, I only have one way to run a dig route'. But you know what? That one way was more than enough to beat him." (he was talking about Saban)
Later, towards the end of his speech he said, "You know, I'm sitting in the audience and I hear 'We should have beat Utah by two TDs' and I almost stood up and said, 'yeah, but you didn't.' It's kind of hard to win by two tds when you're down 21 points in the first half."

Re: Urban Meyer to coach Notre Dame next year...
But it doesn't make sense for Bama to do that. We're talking about a team full of players that had accomplished absolutely nothing in their careers up to that point. No conference titles, no BCS bowls, no national titles, etc... They hadn't done shit. How could they not have been fired up for a BCS Bowl considering this? You would think this would almost be like a National Championship game for them because of the program's struggles over the last decade. Especially the seniors......their first 3 years were medicore and they had an opportunity to go out a winner in a freakin' BCS Bowl and they don't even show up? Shows the type of character Mike Shula was recruiting.Bama just wasn't up for the game at all. That sucks and I'm still pissed, but human nature being what it is, they felt their season was over.

Re: Urban Meyer to coach Notre Dame next year...
Rack JON. I get tired of hearing that built-in excuse, whenever one's team loses a game they shouldn't. Sometimes you just get out-played. I heard the same excuse when Georgia lost to WVU in the Sugar Bowl a few years ago.
I'm sure Bama's loss to UF in the SEC cash grab game was pretty crushing, but they had almost an entire month to heal their vaginas and get ready for the Sugar Bowl. It's not like they had to play the following week, when the letdown is still prevalent. In an era in which programs are judged by BCS bowls, there's no excuse in being ill-prepared on that front. And yup, going 7-6 the year prior, Bama should've felt priveleged just to be there.

Re: Urban Meyer to coach Notre Dame next year...
Despite Pete's constant protests to the contrary ("At USC, we play for the Rose Bowl!"), I can pretty much guaran-gotdamn-tee you that USC had every reason not to be fired up, for any number of their recent BCS bowl game appearances.
Bama had no business even being in line for the national title. All they did was Bill Snyder-Mark Mangino their way into the opportunity, while riding Nick's coattails, and Bama's name recognition.
USC had legitimate reason to feel let down, a number of times. They had every excuse Bama had, and then some. So, if USC can get up to play their Consolation Bowl games, Bama has no excuse.
It's either on Nick, for not being able to get his team up for a big game, or it was the one thing nobody wants to even speculate, much less admit, amidst all the excuse making: Utah was simply a better team than Bama, last year.
I'm going to have to go with the latter.
The fact that Bama is a better program, historically, that doesn't count for a hill of beans, once the whistle blows.
LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Bama; they're all better programs than Utah, historically.
Doesn't matter. Last season, Utah would've waxed all of them. They would've wiped the floor with LSU. They would've named the score against ND, Auburn, or Nebraska.
Bottom line, Bama simply couldn't handle Utah's offense, which isn't surprising, considering the paucity of offenses Bama faced all year, leading up to that game.
Bama faced precisely two teams with an offense last season, and that includes the offense they faced every day in practice.
Bama's record in those games: 0-2.
Andre Smith's absence had nothing to do with Utah's offense blitzkrieging Bama's defense, and that's where that game was decided.
No excuses. Bama got rolled, by the better team.

With 10 times the talent on offense at Cal.

Re: Urban Meyer to coach Notre Dame next year...
Last year's Utah team? It was certainly on a par, talent wise, with this year's Cal offense. It sure as hell wasn't ten times worse. That's ridiculous.
It probably was better. They went 13-0, and won a BCS bowl game, following a long plane ride.
Cal can't even dream of such things.
Besides, Cal doesn't have very much talent on offense. They're pretty fucking anemic, actually, as evidenced by 0 legitimate points and only 160 total yards.
They have Jahvid Best, and a couple of fast guys, but not a whole lot of real football talent, which will be born out when the NFL draft arrives, and Cal is once again on the outside, looking in.
Cal's most talented offensive (or defensive, for that matter) player is gone. All they have left is Jahvid, in terms of true top-shelf talent, and as far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on that guy. Until he shows up big in a big game, without puking, or quitting, and until he actually has his talent confirmed with a high NFL draft selection, he's just another fast Cal guy, with no heart.

Unless all the UF boosters paying the Tebows 6 figures a season through their church find a way to buy more eligibility, Meyer will lose his golden goose and jumping ship doesnt seem like such a leap anymore. Maybe meyer figures he can get a lot more players paid through the mythology loop hole at Notre Dame.
