That, and the fact that nobody besides Jon ever thought of Kirk Ferentz as a Top 5 coach. Not now, not 3 years ago, not when he was hired.
Just stop dude, you're an idiot. You know nothing about CFB. You're a fucking tool.

Ahahahahahaha! Tard just tried to make his point by comparing Iowa's ability to recruit to 3 of the greatest programs of all-time. Ahahahahahahaha!

Dude stop it, you are going to give me a heart attack laughing at your stupidity.

Never. He's Kirk Ferentz, coach of an irrelevant Iowa team. A coach of Iowa doesn't even enter into such discussions. If he were Top 5, he wouldn't be at Iowa.

Then there's what he's actually done at Iowa, which hasn't been squat. He's never won the conference (nobody gives a shit about "co-champs," not when Ohio St is the other "co-champ," and they're off playing for national titles), he's never won a BCS bowl game, and he got destroyed in the only one he's been in.

Nebraska, ND and OU aren't exactly brimming with in-state talent either, and they've managed to do just fine over the years...by recruiting out of state. Iowa's excuse is just that...an excuse.

Ferentz and his teams aren't mediocre, but they're not much above it, either. Other than for his paycheck, there has certainly never been any reason to even put him in the Top 10 coaches.

Kirk Ferentz, Top 5? Comedy.

.mVan is just no fun. Here I am trying to put this bitch in his place and fuckface runs like a scared girl.

He says Ferentz sucks and everyone besides me thinks he sucks and then I post a link to Sports Illustrated (who happens to be a pretty big name in the sports world) that says he's the best coach in the Big-10 and I get no response. How fucking lame is that bullshit?

Oh .mVan...........I thought it was just me that said Ferentz was a good coach? I thought everyone else thinks he sucks. Should I post some links to where people in the NFL say he's the #1 target of any college coaches? Would you like me to dig up links to where ESPN announcers back in 2002-2004 claimed Ferentz as maybe the best coach in the country? I can do it you know.

What a fucking pussy. Runs his fucking mouth then gets owned and has no comeback. You're no fun dude. No wonder you're m2's troll. You're just as much of a little bitch.

disagree. Oklahoma has very solid in-state talent for a state of it's population. 4 of OU's 8 players on the Big XII pre-season team are from Oklahoma (3 from Texas and 1 from Nevada)...as are 2 Heisman winners in the last 5 years....and 4 of 5 of OU's Heisman winners all-time. and the Selmons. the conception is that OU is composed of all Texas recruits, but that's exaggerated (especially by Texans). the roster usually runs about 40% Texans. now, O-State, their roster usually runs over 50-55% Texans but no one complains about that when the Pokes are 4-8 and 5-7 for a decade.

the 2000 NC team roster: 67 Oklahomans, 27 Texans and Cali, Florida, Missouri, Colorado, and South Dakota to fill the rest.

http://soonerstats.com/football/players ... sonid=2000

Oklahoma is not Florida, Texas or California and nor does it have anywhere near the kinds of population densities or major cities....but hey, to say Oklahoma isn't "brimming" with in-state talent is simply wrong. per capita for a state with 3 D-1 bowl teams last year it does pretty good.

i don't have the resources or inclination to do it, but Husker fans pride themselves on their in-state identity of success in the Devaney and Osborne years (5 MNCs).

Yep, NU had a lot of success under Osborne with the Omaha kids. They would not have been where they were without them. I think it's Millard North that was their top HS to recruit from. Almost like the Flintstones of Michigan State hoops.

KC, the point is that none of those three programs get by like they have strictly on in-state talent.

OU has always heavily relied on Texas kids, even if they have a majority of Oklahoma kids. Obviously, Nebraska wasn't winning titles with nothing but white linemen types from the state of Nebraska. ND sure as hell didn't build their program on a large majority of kids from Indiana.

For that matter, Michigan has always drawn heavily from the state of Ohio.

If Nebraska can do it, if tiny Louisiana can do it, and yes, I know Louisiana has more in-state talent than Iowa, then Iowa could do it too.

Again, drop Urban Meyer into Ferentz's office, and Iowa does a lot more than they've done under Ferentz. Are they a perennial national title contender? Probably not. Are they going to more BCS bowls, and even occasionally winning the Big 10? Yeah, I think they are, much more than they ever have under KF.

sure, i guess, but turn the question around and what states could get by on solely in-state talent? florida, california and texas....3 of the most populous states by far in the BTPCF world....so, it seems pointless to insist on that as a wide-ranging measure of some kind of program integrity unless schools from those 3 states are the only ones who can win respectable championships?

Oklahoma is a lot closer to Dallas than San Diego is to Oakland in terms of miles but one is seen as a "legit" recruit and the other isn't by this "state purity" argument. my uncle, who coached HS football in Oklahoma and Texas for 25 years, and sent a lot of kids to OU, OSU, Arkansas and ATM and such said that according to Charley North who was a Switzer assistant and also at Arkanasas for a long time said the general rule was a kind of 500 mile radius from a kid's hometown. that something like 85+% of kids sign with a school within that radius regardless of state and the 500 mile radius was far more determinant than "staying-in-state". his corollary to that, that if you were a recruiter driving more than 6-7 hours in the car you better have some kind of family connection or some *other* form of relationship to the kid or you were probably wasting your time.

that example may be geography specific to Oklahoma-Texas-Arkansas area but it testifies that state matters less to a recruiter on the ground than actual distance in terms of %'s of getting a commit. the state thing at some level is a kind of fetish for Texans and apparently, alongside Schmick's theory of only state recruits, Californians. the two states that "benefit" the most from such reasoning.

KC, the point is simply that Nebraska and ND have proven that they can win without being overloaded with in-state talent, so Iowa has no excuse, at least insofar as the "there's no talent in-state!" argument.

Nebraska and Indiana will never be confused with huge hotbeds of in-state talent. Teams without the in-state talent of California, Florida and Texas still manage to win, and win big, consistently.

Let me just say this (and I think everyone except m2/Van will agree), if you can't see the difference between Iowa recruiting and schools like OU, Nebraska, and Notre Dame you are dumb. Not in a football sense dumb, but just overall dumb. (ie low IQ).

By m2/Vag's standards the following coaches all suck........

Paul Johnson, Houston Nutt, Mike Gundy, Bill Snyder, Tom O'Brien, and Jim Leavitt
