now it might be time to panic
I said one more key player to go down for the season and I am going to start to worry and now our projected All-American LT (a certain 1st round pick) Brian Bulaga is out for the year and potentially for his career with some rare heart condition. Wow. Very sad news. We can't afford to lose him. I think it's safe to say the breaks could not go more against us. This has gotten ridiculous. We can't overcome this many losses. It's amazing how it's always key players that get injured with this program. The only fucking time a backup goes down is if the starter gets hurt. We're cursed. Fuck it....if we go 7-5 Ferentz should be national coach of the year and I'm not joking. Hope Bulaga is able to lead a long and productive life. I can only imagine how devastated he is right now. Millions of dollars down the drain due to bad luck. That sucks. Poor kid.

Don't blame it on bad luck, blame it on your team's crappy depth.

Re: now it might be time to panic
Yes because Michigan State would be able to overcome these kinda losses. Riiiigggghhhtttt! Only a few teams in the country have the depth to withstand this many key injuries. Our starting LT,HB, and CB are already out for the year and we've had other starters already out for short periods for injuries/suspensions. Unless you're USC,Texas, Florida, etc you can't possibly overcome that. I'm not worried about this teams record anymore. I just want to see some improvement throughout the year and make a bowl game. If we're 1 game into the year with this amount of injuries, just wait until mid-season. We may not have a scholarship player left!MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:So I guess you're welching on our sig bet.

He was going to be a certain first rounder. Would have been a Top 3 tackle if he came out this year and probably Top tackle next year. Every NFL draft expert says the same thing and most of the mags had him projected as an All-American. Look him up.Nolesy wrote:I can't believe this thread has gone this far with out referencing the "certian first round" comment.

At those positions? Yeah, they'd be just fine. The biggest hit would be the loss of CB, but even then, the current back up was a starter last year.Yes because Michigan State would be able to overcome these kinda losses.

You could afford to lose the only RB you have on the roster with playing experience, an All-American LT, and a CB along with 2 starting guards missing game(s), your #1 WR, and your #3 corner being suspended for 2 games? We basically have 1 CB with playing experience, no RB's with playing experience, and an offensive line with virtually no depth anymore because of this.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:At those positions? Doubtful, though it doesn't matter. Not even a 1% chance if we're healthy. But now with all the injuries, if the game is played at Stanford they'd have at least a 30% chance to win so anything is possible.Van wrote:Stanford would beat Iowa this year, especially if the game was at Stanford.
Now, as for the 2007 Stanford team (WHICH IS THE TEAM THAT BEAT USC).......
They wouldn't have beaten Iowa's 3rd string and that's no joke.
You are USC........NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER will injuries be even 1% of the reason you lose to a team like that. It was 100% lack of mental preparation and not taking them seriously. Was USC a better team than Stanford? Of course they were. If USC lost its entire starting lineup in 2007, they should have still easily handled Stanford.

So...did they instantly go from lucky to go 7-5 back to 10-2?The source declined to go into details about the ailment but said Bulaga is fine and should be back on the field soon, even if he sits out against the Cyclones. There has been buzz around the Iowa program that Bulaga might have a serious condition, but the source said the rumors are greatly exaggerated.

Why the hell are you posting bullshit stories, JON? If you're correct, reveal your sources. Otherwise, sit down and shut the fuck up.
Dude, it's been all over the news since about 4:00 yesterday here. Ken Miller and Matt Perault were on claiming they had sources he is out. Then later they said he has a rare heart condition that might cost him his career. Last night, I am told, the Big-10 Network also reported this.
2:00.....turn on KXNO if you're in the listening area. You'll hear all about it.
Iowa is staying tight lipped about this. You know how Ferentz is.
Sorry, I have no idea what Miller is saying in this. My speakers aren't working for some fucking reason and I'm actually kinda glad because it's painful as fuck to sit through 4 minutes of Jon Miller talking. But this is his thoughts on Iowa-ISU and Bulaga from YouTube this morning.

Re: now it might be time to panic
Zorich wasn't a Prop 48. His only other offer for football was Northwestern. ND has taken two football Prop 48 kids, Tony Rice and John Foley. Foley wrecked his shoulder and barely played. They also took one basketball prop 48.
A lot of the current recruiting rules that are in place now (w/r/t when you can contact them) are because of Vinny. If you ever see the 1990 Orange Bowl that ND won, you see Vinny in the background on a Zack Morris cell phone calling recruits.

Re: now it might be time to panic
How do you possibly minimalize the loss of a guy that's projected by just about everyone to be the first offensive tackle taken in the NFL Draft?? You can't have a good O-line by continually shifting players around. You need continuity. That's a big part of the reason we had such a good O-line last year and in 2002. Not only were they talented, but they stayed healthy. Don't underestimate this loss. It may not kill us tomorrow, but rest assured......come Big-10 play, you'll see the affects of not having him in there.Like I said, his absence tomorrow will be minimized with the return of the other two linemen and they should be in better shape than last week, imo.

Re: now it might be time to panic
Calloway was suspended for the UNI game. Vandevelde is EXPECTED to play tomorrow, but I don't think he's going to get too many reps. I'm not sure if he is starting. If ISU is smart they will attack the piss out of the left side of Iowa's line. With Bulaga out and Vandevelede not 100%, I would attack that side unless they put Calloway back in at LT and Richardson at RT. I do not feel comfortable with Richardson at RT since he hasn't played in almost 2 years.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:So those other linemen JON was crying over were only out for the UNI game??? There's no way this line is holding up. Vandevelde is banged up, Bulaga is out, Doering has been injury prone his entire career, and Richardson is not going to last more than a few games now that he's going to be forced to get so many reps. I'm confident in Calloway and Eubanks at LT (or RT) and C. The other guys can play, I just don't know if they can hold up.
I get the feeling we're being forced to play Vandevelde. I don't think the coaches were expecting him back before next week or possibly even 2 weeks vs Penn State. But now they have no choice. I hope he didn't come back too early and end up with a more serious injury. I've seen it happen before.

Would you like to try again or should I just make a fucking complete fool out of you????? Learn to click on links retard. You were the only one reporting that he's out for the season and possiblyl his career.
Umm.......no. Will the O-line be as bad as they were last week? I dunno, maybe not. Will Bulaga's loss impact this team once Big-10 play comes around? Fuckin' right it will and if you think otherwise, you're a god damn moron. The return of the two starting linemen for the Iowa State game will minimize the loss of Bulaga in this game.
Just say it Mace......."I don't understand the importance of continuity on the offensive line...." Remember 2005, dipshit? Couldn't block for shit. Why? Because we were shifting guys around and had a new line every week due to injuries. Tate was on his back the whole season. So, getting two O-linemen back will improve the line play even though they'll be missing their best lineman.
Epic take. Always love the tards that play this card. I've watched football for 25 years. You've watched it for probably 86. Was there something you learned in those previous 61 years that someone watching the game the past 25 years could not have picked up on?????? Moron.I don't need your fucking lectures, twatlips, as I've seen more Iowa football games in my lifetime that you
Another brilliant take. Someone doesn't play the game so they don't know anything about it. Fucking dolts like you know they're so far off base, they have to play this card. "I played football and you didn't, so I know more". No you don't. You just have nothing else to say. I have not played competitive football since 8th grade (unless you want to include intramurals flag football). I wasn't great at football, so I stuck to sports I was good at like baseball and basketball. I decided once high school rolled around that I was probably going to be a pretty mediocre quarterback (I didn't want to play another position) and so I figured it was best to spend my fall working on sports I was actually good at. So what? That doesn't mean you don't know as much or more about football than someone who played their entire lives. Some of the WORST football analysts are those that played and some of the best are those that didn't. Gee......that Emmitt Smith sure does provide great analysis!!and am convinced you never played the game beyond Pop Warner, if even then.

I actually kinda like Perault. His schtick involves the Red Sox and Patriots because that's who he's a fan of. What's wrong with that? Did you want him to go Husker homer while he was living in Omaha?? I certainly don't want him doing that with Iowa or ISU. He's kinda entertaining.
By the way, it wasn't really him reporting the story. It was actually his co-host. He was just parroting. Big-10 Network reported it last night too. As have some Iowa beat writers.

Message board venom? Not hardly dude. Maybe I should petition the mods to create a sarcasm smiley! You worded it like DSM is some sort of horrible gig, when you're from Nebraska. I apologize. I will agree with you a bit on Perault. He does seem to comment on things he doesn't really know a lot about. He makes some comments about Iowa's team that clearly show he's new to the area. But he is entertaining, and really- what radio host doesn't talk out of their ass? He's not my favorite guy in town but the little I actually listen he doesn't bother me. He has good chemistry with Ken Miller- who was previously with this idiot that got fired in this time slot.Cornhusker wrote:Color me not surprized.TheJON wrote:I actually kinda like Perault.

And you go fuck yourself too Mace........and cheer the Hawks on to a big victory in Ames in about 18 hours as well! Can't believe I was able to land Hillside seats a week ago. This game is always sold out by July. I do feel dirty giving Jamie Pollard money though. Props to the Iowa fans not gobbling up our share of those 93 dollar tickets he charged us. I got Hillsides for 60 bucks and that's ridiculous. Tired of him taking advantage of Iowa. Its their only payday. I wish our AD's would stop allowing them to get such a financial boost from playing us. We get none from playing them.

Re: now it might be time to panic
I just learned the ISU fight song at Welch Street Pub (think that's what its called) up here in Ames. Got my "Beat State" shirt on and counting the number of hecklers I get! My favorite was this old (probably 40 or so) drunk lady grabbed my ass and goes "fuck Iowa". That was the only thing that topped this little kid (maybe 8 years old) that came up to me outside Panchero's and yells "hawks suck". I'm fairly certain his dad told him to do it! Rack the dad, by the way! Quite a few Hawk fans around town but it seems like there are a lot less than normal years so I'm guessing there will be fewer Iowa fans at the game than usual. I absolutely LOVE this rivalry! Coming to Ames, talking shit and drinking beer with Clone fans- can't fucking beat that! I have no idea how these people are able to booze all night, get up at 5 in the morning and get back to boozing! Fuck, I must be getting old! I can't do that shit anymore. I'm about to crash and will be lucky to make it up by 8. College football fans are fucking insane. Oh to be 21 again!

I think I can step off the ledge now! Backups came in and played a damn good game. Down to our 5th corner and he's a freshman and played a damn fine game. Running game showed promise. True freshman Brandon Wegher was outstanding. Defense was outstanding. Stanzi gotta make fewer mistakes. Missed open receivers a lot in first half. Got to continue to improve but this team took a big step forward today. Considering all the injuries, to go on the road and play this well against an in-state rival absolutely shocked me. ISU hasn't scored a TD against us in 15 quarters. "Next man in". In Kirk I Trust!
