Happy 15th anniversary

"Well, my wife assassinated my sexual identity, and my children are eating my dreams." -Louis CK
Re: Happy 15th anniversary
That probably bothers ColoradoFan more since they've not been relevant since then. I used to never watch that highlight all the way through...I'd usually just flip the channel before Westbrook caught the ball. I still try to avoid watching it if pops up but it's been so long that it doesn't hurt any more than 'Spartan Bob' or 'Rocket' Ismail's two punt returns for TDs or Desmond being "tripped" in the end zone.
Also, it's the one-year anniversary of Matt Millen being fired.

2nd. I was living in Madison at the time. CU destroyed Wisky at home the week before, then went to Texas (pre Big XII) and won in Austin the week after the Michigan game. Colorado-Nebraska was *the* regular season showdown that year, but the buffs pretty much laid a turd in Lincoln.Papa Willie wrote:15 years? God damn - had no idea it'd been that long. Gettin' old!
I remember during the Wisconsin game, ESPN kept slurping Neuweasel who was "magic" as CU's OC. As if it was hard to get Kordell Stewart, Rashaan Salaam, and Michael Westbrook to put up numbers.
Re: Happy 15th anniversary
Basically, that catch cost PSU a MNC. How Kordell could complete that and not a simple EZ fade patten in a FUCKING AFC championship game, I'll never know...

I can't believe it's been that long either. I remember watching that game in my dorm room (USF didn't have a team then, so a few of us would get drunk and watch games every weekend) and I couldn't believe that play.Papa Willie wrote:15 years? God damn - had no idea it'd been that long. Gettin' old!

This thread sucks....
Yeah I was at that game. Later that year I saw Westbrook at Fairlane mall in Dearborn around Christmas. I told him he broke my heart, he said "sorry man". Fuck him!!

The funny thing about that pic is that wasn't the last time Rae-Rae was looking over his shoulder for "the Law"!

i was working at Peluso's in Tahoe City/Lake Tahoe as the lead saute guy on the weekends. it happened right at the moment i came into the restaurant bar to talk to the chef about the nightly specials. my buddy Marco, a bartender, was a CU guy and he went nuts. fucking berserk.

I had just walked in from washing my truck and flipped on my parents 27" Magnavox. When I turned the tv on, it just so happen it was on the channel the game was being aired. And it was when Kordell was taking the snap for that play. Unfreakingbelieveable the timing of how that went down for me to see it.

Re: Happy 15th anniversary
I was a student at UNL at the time, living in a run down house with 3 other dudes maybe 4 or 5 miles from Memorial Stadium. All I could do after that play was run through the house, screaming. I never understood the meaning of the word "speechless" before that day. I still believe that was the best team CU has ever fielded - even better than the 90 MNC team or the 11-1 89 team. I sat in the student section a few weeks later, dressed head to toe in CU gear, and watched them get dismantled by the 'skers in the 200th consecutive sellout at Memorial. That was not a fun day. Then again, I also got to see them trounce ND in the Fiesta Bowl at the end of the season. Glad I got to see Mac's last game, at least. I'd still like to see what they could've done against NU on a neutral field.

CU wouldn't have done jack shit on a neutral field except take it up the ass as per usual back then when facing Nebraska. Mac wanted that rivalry...and he sure the fuck got it. I agree in that was probably CU's best team ever. Too bad they and their fans pissed off Nebraska to the point beating them was funner than beating Oklahoma. Matter of fact...it still is. Careful what you wish for and enjoy the beatdown CU is going to get this year, too.
Speaking of that NU/CU game being the 200th con. sellout.....this saturday is the 300th consecutive sellout. Wish it were against the buffs

Re: Happy 15th anniversary
you lost 24-7, yes? on a neutral field i'd go with 24-8. way to get ballsy and go for two.MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote: Glad I got to see Mac's last game, at least. I'd still like to see what they could've done against NU on a neutral field.
Re: Happy 15th anniversary
ditto. on the flip, we went up there the next year and beat their asses. then they came back in 97 with all their silly "never stop believing" shirts and got butt humped. thanks for the springboard into woodson's heisman, friends.WolverineSteve wrote:This thread sucks....

Re: Happy 15th anniversary
I remember seeing those around campus that week (players wearing them). Neuheisel had so much goofball t-shirt slogans and such back then. "Let the Buffaloes Roam", "Mission Possible" (played the Mission Impossible theme from the stadium speakers) etc. now, Hawkins has some lame ass stuff too. "Blue Collar" banners on the practice field.M Club wrote: then they came back in 97 with all their silly "never stop believing" shirts and got butt humped. thanks for the springboard into woodson's heisman, friends.

that 97 game was actually my first at michigan stadium. i had to meet up with my lady's dad at the same hotel the cu alumni were having a booster meeting or something. those shirts were gay. i don't use that term loosely. something like:
0:01 left...
our bleakest hour...
when most teams would quit...
we never stopped believing...
THE CATCH!!
they should have just worn shirts that said: remember last time, bitches? ahahahahahahahaha!

I remember the 97 game well. My friend ( a CUfan) and I had a "head shave" bet. I snuck in some trimmers. About halway through the 4th quarter victory was evident. I shaved his head right there in the stands while the last 8 minutes or so ticked away. I'll never forget how many people were watching from the sections around us. A few thousand UM'ers were cheering their asses off as I cut his hair and tossed it into the air....fucking awesome memory.

I remember when I saw the line of scrimmage thinking "we're good, he can't throw the ball that far" then as he released it seeing the trajectory saying out loud "I think he threw it that far" no    way did I think it would be caught for a touchdown. I don't remember much after that.Papa Willie wrote:While watching that play, I just noticed that Kordell threw that fucker right at 72 yards in the air (from his 27 to the 1) Not too shabby. :D

Re: Happy 15th anniversary
though, i haven't watched that replay on classics or whatever in years (it's kind of an ugly game, otherwise)....there's a crapton of NFL talent on that field. both teams were loaded.

I was speaking about the team, not the fan base. But if you want to talk about shithead fans, K State should definitely be in the discussion as well...SunCoastSooner wrote:CU crackheads talking about NU being "vile"MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan wrote:Ja, like I'm gonna become a fan of the vilest team in CFB just because I spent 3 semesters there...Screw_Michigan wrote:Ja, what's with dudes attending UNL but remaining CU fans? That's rich.
