Final thoughts from this week

Post by TheJON »

Well, the Chiefs laid an egg again today so I have no interest in watching anymore football today (at least Greinke got another win), so figured I'd give some final thoughts on the CFB action this weekend......

First off, LSU..............#4 in the rankings???? Is this a joke? Top 25? Uhhhh.............maybe. They were 7-5 last year and have played 4 of the shittiest teams in the country so far and are lucky to not be 2-2. Got outplayed by U-Dub, but I will let it slide since it's week 1. Coulda lost that. Miss. State, only reason they lost because they are poorly coached. What the fuck were they doing on the goaline? Just fucking QB sneak that shit a few times. The last 2 playcalls were just fucking dumb. And that 93 yard punt return had NOTHING to do with LSU and everything to do with how pathetic Miss. State is. Worst punt coverage ever. LSU is a prime example of why we shouldn't have polls until at least the beginning of October.

I know Florida hasn't really played anyone yet, but I believe them, Texas and Alabama are deserving of their rankings at this point.

The AP Poll seems to be a lot more accurate than the Coaches poll. The coaches/SID's clearly have no interest in showing some objectivity and ranking the teams according to where they should be.

Boise State........... I really think they have an outside shot at playing for a national title but I do not think they even have a case. I know that Oregon win is looking impressive now, but teams that don't have to play even 1 remotely quality opponent the final 11 games of a 12 game season should not be considered for the championship game. That may seem unfair, but come on........that schedule is horrible even by mid-major standards. BCS Bowl.......yes. National title game........absolutely not.

Here is my Top 25..........

1.Florida
2.Alabama
3.Texas
4.Boise State
5.Cincinnati
6.Houston
7.Iowa
8.Oklahoma
9.Oregon
10.USC
11.Ohio State
12.Virginia Tech
13.Michigan
14.Miami
15.South Florida
16.California
17.Penn State
18.Kansas
19.LSU
20.Wisconsin
21.BYU
22.Nebraska
23.Notre Dame
24.Auburn
25.TCU

Close calls..........

Ole Miss, South Carolina, Missouri, UCLA, Arizona, Oklahoma State

Biggest games to watch next week..........

Michigan at Michigan State- First road game for Michigan. Interested to see how Forcier plays with the white jersey's on. Should be a high scoring affair. Could go either way.

LSU at Georgia- Fraud elimination. Take your pick on the winner. Should be a brutal game to watch, though you might wanna tune in to the end because there could be an exciting finish.

Oklahoma at Miami- National title elimination. How does Miami bounce back from their lousy performance this weekend? I got a hunch they'll pull this one off.

USC at Cal- For USC, this is title elimination- not only national title but also Pac-10 title. With a loss here, it is possible we may see USC end up in the Holiday Bowl or worse for the first time since 2001. I like Cal's chances here since it's at home.

Wisconsin at Minnesota. Rivalry game where winner will put themselves in a position to make a run at a New Year's Day Bowl. I like Wisconsin to win a close, high scoring game.

K-State vs Iowa State in Kansas City. Nobody outside of Iowa cares, but I do. ISU can win this, and if they do they'll be 4-1 and can now start thinking about making it to a bowl game. Would be a nice accomplishment for Paul Rhoads in his first year, and as strange as this sounds.........I'm actually rooting for them to do so. ISU wins 24-20

Auburn at Tennessee. I'm still not sure just how good Auburn is. We know Tennessee isn't very good, but this is a big game for Chizik. A 5-0 start, regardless of who they played, will put them in a position to make a run at a nice bowl game and with an upset or 2 down the line- maybe even a BCS Bowl (though I think that's unlikely). Auburn wins 23-17

FSU at Boston College. The only thing I'm interested in seeing is if Florida State now just lays down and quits. Season is over for them with a third loss. Give me BC to win by a touchdown.

One last thing........

No props to Illannoy and the Zooker. That team just quits on him. I've always said it...........he will NEVER win. I don't care if he has the 22 best players in the country. It's a real shame he is able to recruit like he is because he can't do anything with that talent. They just laid down yesterday, much like they did against Missouri.

Talked about this with my CFB Honk friends this morning...

The top 3 are clear-cut. Right where they should be.

As for you putting BSU at #4 -- I've watched Cincy play, and watched BSU play... and Cincy would absolutely carve up BSU's defense. Pike is the real deal... if anyone hasn't seen Cincy this year, try to make a point of it-- good offense, due to very good QB play.

BSU can't put a 1AA on the sched and have any hopes of playing for anything meaningful in a bowl.

LSU at UGA -- LSU hasn't shown me much, except that a bunch of SECBSHs have poll votes. UGA seems to be able to score a bunch, which LSU hasn't shown yet. I completely agree a fraud goes down, one way or the other. Kinda like UGA in that one.

Still don't know how I feel about OU or Miami. Should be a good one to get a bearing on the big picture.

The M2 Super Bowl -- as I mentioned in another thread, if Cal doesn't figure out how to block anyone, it could get pretty ugly. If they can get their skill guys going (and not just Tucker's mouth), it could be a barnburner.

Can't really add anything to your statements on Auburn and Tenn, since you summed it up quite nicely.

And I'll pretty much say "ditto" on your FSU/BC takes, as well.

Houston #6 and TCU #25?

Put down the crackpipe.

You want to talk about a BCS bowl buster, talk about Texas Christian.

Sagarin has Iowa 5th. Nebraska has no quality wins and a loss. Iowa has no losses and 2 quality wins. Yeah, how ridiculous of me to rank them ahead of the Huskers. Complete rubbish!

Yeah, H. That is ponderous as well.

But not as ponderous as TCU being in the "Mountain West" conference. How the fuck did that happen? Kinda' like how Louisville is in the Big "East" conference, I suppose.

Still, the Horned Frogs (what a great name) are for real. Pretty sure there aren't too many teams right now who are looking forward to playing them.

TCU should be ranked ahead of Boise St and Houston right now.

It's gonna take a miracle for UH to run the table, but if they do then they should surpass both Boise St and TCU in the computer rankings. TCU's conference schedule will be better than UH's but UH's OOC schedule will have the resume of Ok State and Miss St on the road and Texas Tech at home. If Miss St and muster a 6-6 season and both Ok State and Tech finish with their typical 8-4 to 9-3 seasons, then UH should get the at-large nod over anyone else.
